《Mending the Battle Wounds (TodoBakuDeku)》Chapter 14

"Does anyone else find it odd how much they seem to hang out now?" Mina asked from the living room couch. Everyone from the Bakusquad was sitting around, besides it's name sake.

Katsuki, Shoto and Izuku were all in the kitchen, where Mina was currently looking. Katsuki was making dinner for the whole class, something he was frequently in charge of, and Izuku and Shoto had decided to keep him company. Or Izuku decided to keep him company and had dragged Shoto along.

It was Friday night and there were students milling around the living room area, but most were in their dorms waiting for dinner. Sero, Mina, Kaminari and Kirishima, on the other hand, were watching their friends with calculating eyes, trying to figure out the puzzle in front of them.

"Yeah, they're always hanging out after school, but when I ask Bakubro about it, he deflects. What'd you think they're up to?" Kirishima asked, watching the blond actually have a conversation with Shoto and Izuku.

If he were just getting along with Izuku it would be understandable, considering their background and Katsuki's feelings of guilt, but it wasn't. He was getting along with Shoto, which is completely unheard of. He had to be the one kid in 2-A Katsuki hated more than anyone.

"Making out." Mina said with a shrug. All of her friends gaped at her. "What? Am I the only one with a functioning gaydar and an ability to sense sexual tension?" She asked with a raised brow.

Sero coughed at her words. "I... highly doubt than. Last week he couldn't stand either of them, there's no way he's just magically in love with them now." He said while leaning back against the couch.

"Ah, I never said in love, I said sexual tension. And Bakugou was beating kids up for Midoriya last week, so..." She trailed off while shrugging suggestively.

"Bakugou beats kids up all the time." Kaminari said, waving off the evidence she presented.

"Well what'd you think they do after school?" Mina asked, crossing her arms in annoyance. She would appreciate it if her boys would listen to her every now and then.

"I don't know, probably studying or something. Bakugou and Todoroki are both crazy smart, so it wouldn't surprise me if Midoriya asked for their help." Kaminair said, for once actually having a good point.

Kirishima shot his idea down though. "I don't think that's it either. I don't know if you've noticed yet or not, but Midoriya is like a genius. That test we got back on Thursday that like no one got a higher score than ninety, even Yaoyorozu and Bakugou? He got a one hundred, I saw it when I went to talk to Bakugou. The kid's freaky smart, he doesn't need study help." He explained while Kaminari looked dejected at the fact he was wrong, once again.

Little did the group know, Kaminari wasn't actually far off, but it wasn't Izuku who was getting study help.

Izuku and Shoto were helping Katsuki with his English.

It wasn't that he was failing the class or struggling, he just couldn't stand the thought of both Shoto and Izuku being better at something than him. While watching the American tv show on Tuesday, he had told them to teach him.

He didn't ask if they would.

He didn't ask for help.

He told them to teach him.

Izuku giggled at the very 'Kacchan way' of admitting he needed help with something, but agreed nevertheless. Shoto never said he would help, but was dragged to Izuku's dorm after school of Wednesday, Thursday and Friday to help anyway.

A lucky thing for all three of them, Katsuki was a very quick learner. After every lesson, they'd watch another episode of House, because Izuku insisted on the show, and Katsuki was reading the captions less and less.

If the Bakusquad were to try hard enough and listen, they'd be able to hear the fact the three boys in the kitchen were speaking in English while Katsuki cooked.

"Okay, I'm done. My fucking brain hurts." Katsuki said, going back to Japanese. Trying to concentrate on cooking, reading a recipe in Japanese, and hold a conversation in English, was getting to him.

"Fair enough." Izuku said with a nod as he swung his legs while sitting on the counter. "Are we gonna meet up over the weekend at all or just after school?" He asked.

"Depends on how fast Bakugou wants to become fluent." Shoto said with a shrug as he leaned against the counter next to Izuku.

"Whatever works for you two, the only thing I have planned this weekend is training." Katsuki said, not taking his eyes off of the food he was preparing. Izuku had noticed that when he cooks, he had a habit of zoning in on it and everything else fades to background noise.

With a small laugh, Izuku spoke up. "That's kind of lame Kacchan. Do you not have a social life?" He teased. He was probably the only person in the school that could get away with teasing Katsuki without a full blown fight breaking out, besides maybe Shoto.

"Why the hell would I need a social life? I'm here to become the number one hero, nothing else matters." Katsuki said glancing over at the villain. The question and response had seemed important enough to require his full attention for a few seconds, even if Izuku was only joking around.

"That's... a terrible mindset." Izuku said with a frown.

"Works just fine for me." Katsuki said, again not bothering to turn.

Izuku sent a firm look at the side of his head, hoping that he'd feeling the burning look and meet his eyes again, but Katsuki didn't. "Kacchan, that's a fine way to destroy any mental health you have left." He said, crossing his arms.

That statement caught Katsuki's attention, which was the point. "Ex-fucking-cuse me? Mental health I have left? What the hell is that supposed to mean?" He had stopped working completely, turning to Izuku and giving him his undivided attention because of his remark.

Izuku grimaced as he realized how terribly he had worded his statement. "Kacchan, that's not what I meant! I'm just saying that, with the whole, you know all of last year, pushing everyone away and doing you're whole 'lone wolf' thing, is just going to make things worse." He tried to explain, but he had a feeling it wasn't working.

Shoto just watched as Izuku called Katsuki out on his emotional immaturity bullshit.

Katsuki wasn't even sure how to respond. Of course he knew what he was doing, he pushed people away on purpose for a lot of reasons. Normally in this situation he'd yell and probably blow something up, but it was Izuku. He had been trying to hard the past two weeks to make up for all the shit he put him through, he couldn't just back track now, especially since the smaller boy hadn't really done anything wrong, just stated facts.

Eventually he just settled for saying, "Whatever Deku." And getting back to cooking.

There was silence for a few minutes, none of them know what to say. Shoto, being the socially awkward, emotionally stunted boy he was, decided to break it. "Well this has become awkward."

Izuku tried to hide his amusement as Katsuki dropped the can he was holding. "God damn it Icyhot, learn to read the damn room." He growled, picking up the can from the floor.

Shoto tilted his head to the side, a sign he didn't understand what Katsuki said. "How would I do that?"

Izuku patted Shoto's shoulder. "Figure of speech Todo, figure of speech." He explained.

Shoto just nodded thoughtfully. He was already busy trying to figure out how to 'read the room'.

Katsuki rolled his eyes at the taller boy. "It means to take note of everyone and how they're clearly feeling, then don't say dumbass, obvious stuff." Then he turned his eyes to Izuku. "And Todo? Really? What is this, the Wizard of Oz?" He asked sarcastically before turning back to the pizza he was making.

Don't judge him, it was on an episode of House and he had been craving it for a few days.

Izuku turned red at being called out for the nickname. "His name is really long and I like nicknames!" He argued back, trying to fight against his embarrassment.

"Couldn't think of anything more creative? I thought you were better than that nerd." Katsuki said with a small smirk at the fact that his comment had gotten to Izuku so easily. The nerd hadn't changed that much.

"What'd you suggest then Kacchan?" Izuku asked, emphasizing Katsuki's own nickname.

"Anything's better than Todo." Katsuki responded, wrinkling his nose in disgust.

Shoto lifted his hand. "Do I get a say?" He asked.

"No." They both responded. Now it was just a petty fight for them.

"Is Shochan better?" Izuku asked with a raised brow.

"No." Katsuki said with a glare.

"I really don't care." Shoto said, but neither of the boys seemed to hear him.

"You're so impossible sometimes." Izuku said with a sigh.

"Oh I'm sorry, must be from the lack of mental health." Katsuki shot back.

Izuku snapped back up from the slouch he had fallen into. "I knew you were mad about that! I already told you, that's not what I meant." He said.

"Oh great, we're back to this." Shoto said, walking to the fridge and grabbing out the milk, then proceeding to pour himself a glass.

"But it's what you said!" Katsuki fired back.

Meanwhile, in the living room. "And their fighting again. Maybe we were wrong about everything." Kirishima said.

"Dang it! I still think they just need to kiss and get over it." Mina said, crossing her arms with a huff and slouching down into the couch.

"Look, I'm sorry I suck at verbalizing my thoughts and I mess it up sometimes, okay? I didn't mean it the way it sounded, so can we just get over it and move on?" Izuku tried, hoping Katsuki was feeling forgiving that evening.

"What'd you mean then?" Katsuki asked, not buying that it wasn't Izuku had meant to say.

"Why does it matter?" Izuku asked back. He had meant it the way he said it, but he realized that he could have said in a much better, gentler way.

"Because you meant it!" Katsuki said, a bit too loudly. It had caught the attention of everyone in the common area.

Izuku groaned into his hands in frustration before pushing himself off the counter. "Fine, you know what? I did mean it. You can't seriously sit here, look me in the eyes, and say that you're completely and soundly okay. That little sarcastic comment about guilt was a little too specific to be a joke. I'm just trying to help you realize that doing this on your own, it's going to work. Just let people in, you self centered jerk!" Izuku said, trying to get it through Katsuki's thick skull.

"Whatever, fuck off Deku." Katsuki sneered, clearly pissed off by the smaller's words.

Izuku took a deep breath, realizing that getting anger would help nothing. "I'm just trying to help Kacchan. Pushing people out has always been your strong suit, but take it from me, it makes it worse." He said, speaking from experience.

"I don't need your fucking help."

Izuku pinched the bridge of his nose. "Yeah, yeah, you don't need help from anyone, blah blah blah. I get it, I've heard it before, it's nothing new. But guess what jackass? Everyone needs help eventually. There isn't a person on Earth that can do everything themselves, not even the great Katsuki Bakugou, so stop acting so high and mighty all the damn time, it's really getting on my nerves."

"Good thing I don't give a damn what gets on your fucking nerves." Katsuki said. He was getting more and more pissed off, mainly because he was terrified of what Izuku was saying. He was... pretty spot on and that scared Katsuki. He spent his entire life hiding himself, so when someone waltzes in and reads him like a freaking book, it freaked him out.

"You've attracted an audience." Shoto pointed out, looking at all their classmates that had stopped their night to watch the fight unfold.

"Like I care what any of them see." Izuku said with an eye roll. They've seen him as a psychotic villain, it didn't get much worse than that.

"You might not, but what about him?" Shoto asked, nodding his head to Katsuki who had directed all his attention to the pizzas he was making, purposefully avoiding everyone else in the room.

With all the attention, Izuku could clearly tell he was uncomfortable. He turned his own glare to them, knowing they were still a bit scared of him. "Fuck off!" He yelled, making everyone else go back to what they were doing before.

When Katsuki refused to look at him still, he made a noise somewhere in between a scream and a groan before stomping off to the elevator. He didn't have the patience to deal with Katsuki's petty attitude at being called out for his unhealthy habits.

Once he was out of the kitchen and on his way up to his own room, Katsuki let out a breath.

"So, when's the pizza gonna be done?" Shoto asked, again not sure how to handle the situation.

"Fuck off Todoroki." Katsuki said weakly.

Shoto's eyebrows went up at hearing his actual name. That had to have been the first time he'd ever used it.

He walked out of the kitchen with one thought in mind.

'Midoriya broke Bakugou.'
