He still loves me? What is this some kind of joke? It's been so long since we've been together, there's no way he still loves me. No way in hell.
I gripped my steering wheel tighter as I drove down the highway.
He's doing this to try and stop me from marrying Lisa. He can't stand that I'm happy and in love with an amazing girl while he's left to masturbate alone. God, he's such a prick. Did he think I would go back to his beautiful self?
"Wait, what?" I spoke out loud. I stomped down on the brakes. "Beautiful?"
Cars started honking behind me, but I didn't bother driving again. I sat there flabbergasted at what I had just thought.
"No, no. You don't have feelings for Jack. That part of you was fake. That's all over now." I was trying to reassure myself, but it wasn't really working. Why would I have said that if I didn't mean it?
I shook my head and started driving again. God damn, was I tired.

"Do you think we should let Jack back into the tour? He's dying not being able to play." I said to the guys. We were at Starbucks, which Rian had so happily suggested.
"I don't know. Maybe we should send him to a therapist first. He was in really bad shape a couple weeks ago." Zack said.
"Yeah, yeah, that seems like a good idea," I mumbled, not fully there, " it'll help him get back on track."
"We don't need a sad Jacko, now do we?" Rian said quietly. "Who's gonna tell him?"
"I'll do it." Zack said. "I'm his closest friend right now, he'll be okay with me telling him. "
Closest friend right now? What the hell does that mean?
"Alright, let's go."

"What?" Jack yelled.
"We're just going to find you a therapist. You really need one Jack." Zack said, trying to calm the hairy boy.
"But I'm perfectly fine! There's nothing wrong with me!"
"Jack you've been really depressed lately. We just want you to feel better."
"You don't understand, I'm fine!" He started getting up, but Zack grabbed his arms and pushed him back down. He looked like he was on the verge of tears.
"Jack, listen to me-"
"No you listen to me. I'm fine," Jack stated, getting louder every second, "and I'm damn sure that I'm not letting you put me in a loony bin."
"We never said anything about a loony bin. All we want to do is get you a therapist." I interrupted. I stood up from the couch and headed over to his distraught self. "And you are getting a therapist so you can get out of this state. You're sad all the time, and you're crying way more than you ever have before. That's not healthy Jack. I want you to feel better. I don't like you like this." A few tears slipped out.
Jack stared blankly at me for a few moments. His once joy filled brown eyes had faded into empty shit colored ones. They were also red rimmed and puffy, and I knew that he had been crying before we came here.
"I miss the happy go-lucky guy I've known for half of my life." I said in a whisper. He nodded slowly, his eyes looking at me, but not at me. More like past me.
"Are we good here?" Rian asked, breaking the silence. I nodded and walked out the room. I put my back up against the hallway wall and slid down until I had my head between my knees. It was a couple minutes before the door opened again and Zack came out and sat next to me.

"You okay dude?" He asked quietly. I shook my head.
"I don't know anymore," I whispered, "I don't even know what came over me in there. It felt like someone else was controlling my words." I buried my head even deeper between my legs, if it was even possible.
"I get it, you want to old Jack back. I do too, it's just gonna take some time."
"Yeah, I guess you're right."
We sat there for a second before Zack said,
"So, you want to go get some ice cream?"
*
"Hey guys!" Rian yelled, running towards one of the bands touring with us, Issues, at full speed, getting ready to jump into Michael's arms most likely.
"Rian!" Michael yelled, opening his arms and catching him.
Yup, I smell another bromance.
"Where's Jenna?" I asked, after not seeing the short, green haired oompa loompa.
"Couldn't make it. She was too busy stuffing her tongue down Tay's throat." Sky said smirking.
"Again? Jesus, how many times is she gonna sneak her girlfriend onto the tour bus?" I said jokingly. "Anyways, let's go get ice cream wasted!" I charged towards the Marble Slab Creamery and bursted through the door. I turned and pressed my face up against the window, looking at the many guys laughing at me, even Jack. I smiled like a doofus and waited for them to come in.
"I want to get chocolate wasted." Tyler said in a high pitched voice. All of us started laughing as we lined up to get our ice cream. I got a chocolate and vanilla swirl, and took a seat at the conjoined table we created.
"Oi, who said you losers could come get ice cream without your Queen?" An Australian voice boomed. All of us turned to look at the green haired oompa loompa herself, standing with Tay on her arm. "You do know I wanted ice cream too right?"
"Yeah, but you had your tongue down your girlfriend's throat, and we all know what happens when we try and break up your make out sessions." I said, and a murmur of agreement was said by the rest of us.
"Hey, I just wanted some Tay flavored ice cream before getting my cheese cake flavored one." Jenna said, a smirk prominent on her face.
"Ah gross." Zack groaned, and set his head down on the table. Josh patted his shoulder as Tay and Jenna went to go get their ice cream.
"Don't know why you're saying gross, Zachary, because I'm pretty sure you got some April flavored ice cream two nights ago." Rian said, punching his shoulder. Zack shot up into a sitting position.
"Rian!" He yelled, turning beet red.
"Ooooooooo Zacky has a girl." We all started chanting. Even Jack joined in, which made me feel better.
"No, no, it was just a one night stand to her, didn't mean anything to me or her." Zack tried to cover up.
"Yet you were the one distraught over her leaving you with a note." Rian snorted. Zack's face went down and he buried his head into his hands.
"Bud, it's okay, if she doesn't want this hunk, she's out of her mind." Tyler said, trying to reassure him.
"Yeah, you're an awesome guy. She's blind to not want you." Jack said very quietly that I barely heard him. I smiled and patted his back.
He shriveled away from my touch, and my smile went away.
"You okay?"
"Yeah, just peachy."
I looked over to Rian, who was already staring at us, and I got that he was thinking the same thing as me.
Jack Bassam Barakat was afraid of me.

Epoch: An NPC's Tale
Epoch is a slow-burn LitRPG/Gamelit novel that tells the story of Luke, later named Lucius—a natural inhabitant of the game-like realm of Elyssia where thousands upon thousands of detached, virtually unkillable entities known as the Players were suddenly introduced right after the dusk of the magnificent Age of Heroes. Shortly after the Players arrived, the balance of power in Elyssia instantly shifted. Kingdoms fell, wars were waged, alliances between races were made, and Lucius, after ten years of training in captivity, found himself being used as a pawn in a prophecy that he had no intention to fulfill. With aspirations and desires of his own, Lucius must find a way to cautiously adapt to the drastic changes in the very foundations of the realm after being sent 300 years into a future that was forever altered by the outcome of the war that his captors had lost and the Players won in a victory that resounded throughout the ages, all for a terrible price. Author's Note As an avid fan of the LitRPG genre myself, I wrote this novel with character progression, heavy Gamelit elements, and some degree of world-building in mind. If you like these, please feel free to give this novel a try. Oh, and the MC is also an NPC, in a sense. And wait, isn't this also an isekai story? Well, it's all a bit complicated to explain here. Maybe you should start reading now?
