It had taken me an eight-hour flight, and two Ubers, but finally I had ended up at the front porch of the house I grew up in. I couldn't say that I wasn't scared, but then again who wouldn't be while confronting their murderous father who thought that you had no memories of him trying to kill you. The door squeaked open revealing him, the man I dreaded most. My dad. "Samuel?" he said shocked in joy.
I remembered all that I had rehearsed with Raegan on the plane ride. They thought that their evil plan of erasing my memory had worked, but as I know it did not. All I had to do was act like a brain dead moron. "I don't know what's going on, all I knew was that I went to sleep, then woke up." I said to him.
He nodded, "Come in" he spoke. I nodded, then smiled as I stepped through the door. He walked through the archway into the kitchen. "I didn't know I'd be having any company, so I don't have much to eat. Though I do have some fresh bananas" he said searching.
"I ate before I came" I said, worried that he may have poisoned the food.
"Okay" he said calming himself, "What do you remember about me?" he asked.
Maybe the fact that you tried to kill me, I kept to myself. "I remember that you haven't been in my life much" I said to him.
He sighed, "I see you only remember the bad parts" he said.
"What else is there to remember?" I said unfiltered. "Just kidding" I said quickly taking it back after seeing the hurt expression on his face. "I remember you saving my life many times, and I appreciate it" I lied.
He smiled, "I'm glad that you feel that way" he put on a more serious face. "What did they do to you?" he asked me.
"I don't know" I told him.
"Sam" Harry said walking into the room with a gun pointed at me. Jacob stood beside him, not knowing what to think of me, guessing by the look on his face.
"It's okay, he got his memories back" my father cleared up, "Well some of them at least"
Jacob gave me a suspicious look, but Harry was more than happy to hear the fake good news. "It's good to have you back, I really didn't want to have to shoot you" he said.
I chuckled. "Right, because your bullets are faster than me?" I asked sarcastically.
The door opened wide and Dr. Keeley came in, rambling on and on about what a pain it was to fly. Though he stopped immediately, and dropped his suitcase when he saw me. "What are you doing here?" He asked me worried and shocked.

"He came here because he got some of his memories back. He needs help getting the rest back, and you're the only brilliant scientist around."
"Last time I tried to help you, you tried to choke the life out of me. What changed between twenty two hours and a layover?" he asked suspiciously.
I knew he would be suspicious. He was a scientist after all, their job was to question things. "I don't know...I guess all I needed was just a trigger to send the memories flooding back."
He put his suspicion to rest, "I guess I'll have to run some tests on you to see what we're up against." He offered. "I can take you to the lab in the morning. Right now you just need to worry about getting rest" he patted me on the back, trying to reassure me that I was going to be okay.
I smiled and nodded. "Good to have you back" Chris said to me walking by.
I thanked him, then rolled my eyes when no one was looking. This family was exhausting. They seemed way too relaxed, so I had my guard up. "I'll show you to your room again, if you need help remembering" Harry said to me.
I nodded, and followed him up the steps. "So, what have you guys been doing?" I asked him, trying to figure out what plan they had in place against Raegan.
"Looking for you around the clock" he answered. "Your father wouldn't rest until we knew where you were."
"Really?" I asked surprised. Probably because he wanted to silence me for good.
"He only slept thirty minutes a day, and none in the past forty eight hours." He added. "He was really worried about you."
How could a father who tried to put his son in danger worry about him? "Why don't I remember you?" I asked boldly.
"Let's just say we didn't exactly get along" he said. "First day when you got here two years ago I smashed your collection of robots"
I had no recollection of him doing it, which was odd. If he was such a large part of my father's life, then how come I didn't know him? It felt like I was missing a big part of this. "You're supposed to be my best friend?" I asked.
"Don't flatter yourself" he said sarcastically. I laughed. "You'll always be my nerdy cousin." He said.
"How touching" I said to him with sarcasm.
"Look I know that Grant told you to get some rest, but if you want we could just sneak out and you can blow stuff up with your fire hands."

I shrugged my shoulders, "Sounds a lot better than sleeping"
"Alright" he said. He lifted the window open. "It's going to be a high jump, you ready?" he asked.
"I've survived getting shot, I think I can survive a two story jump." I answered.
He jumped first, and I followed behind him jumping down to the ground.
"So, where are we going?" I asked.
"There's a really cool rundown warehouse down the street we used to go to. I think it'd be cool to go and check it out." he answered.
I nodded, "You need a lift, or do you want to go slow?" I asked.
"Shut up," he said then placed his hand on my shoulder. I ran down to the end of the street and stopped in front of the place.
"Is this it?" I asked.
He nodded. It looked pretty deserted, and empty. There were vats of toxic waste scattered across the property, and warnings everywhere. "Remember when we came down here for your seventeenth birthday?" He asked me.
I hadn't remembered that, and the files said I was on an island at the age of seventeen, but I guess Harmattan hadn't gotten all the information right. "Yeah" I lied.
He continued on. "Or remember when you took your very first girlfriend up here too?" He asked.
"Yeah, of course" I lied again.
"What was her name again?" he asked.
"I don't remember" I answered. "I guess she wasn't that important" I said harshly. I wasn't even aware that I had a girlfriend.
Harry smiled and put his hand on my shoulder. "That's too bad, because it was such a good day" he said, "Too bad it wasn't real" he added, then injected me roughly with a needle.
"What are you doing?" I asked feeling drowsy.
"What I learned getting my degree in neuro psychology was that the brain is more powerful that we think and in patterns reveals truth" he explained. "I know he's still in your head. All because you starting tapping" I looked down noticing my fingers tapping against my leg over and over. A knack I hadn't even realized. I dont know who this kid was, but he seemed intelligent.
I blacked out before he could say anymore.
I woke up, with my forehead throbbing, and my eyes burning. "What the-"
"Your awake" Dr. Keeley said coming to me. "How do you feel?"
I tried to use my strength to break the shackles that held me, but I was too weak. "You're not going to be able to do that for a long time."
"What's going on, where am I?"
"Were in my mansion" he explained, "Your father thought it best that I had all my materials to help you."
"What are you talking about?" I asked confused.
"You had us fooled thinking that you were back to your normal self you know. Then again you can't blame us for being happy to have you back" he began.
"Let me out or I will kill you" I threatened.
"That's going to be hard to do when your shackled up with Ziroy, and sedatives in an IV being continuously put into your system. Now where was I, Harry was intelligent enough to see right through you, and test you. I guess college did do him some justice"
"So what're you going to do, finish the job and kill me?" I asked.
"None of us ever wanted to kill you. You've been fed false memories. Now I have to fix that" he said.
"There's nothing to fix, I know the truth!" I yelled angrily. There it was again. I noticed my fingers tapping.
He shook his head and sighed. "They really did a number on you" he said, "What did Raegan tell you?"
"He didn't tell me anything, I remember. You guys used me, and when you were done, you tossed me to the side, and tried to kill me."
"Well then, if we're going to get you back to the man you were once before, we're going to have to start now" he said.
My father came down the steps and walked up to me. "What are you going to do to him?" He asked him as I laid quiet on the table refusing to speak to any of them any longer.
"When memories are taken away they aren't erased, they're just hidden. The only way to get them to come back is to provoke a sense of emotion, nostalgia. All I have to do if figure out what his most powerful emotion is, so I can use it."
"Pain" my father said, "He's been through enough traumatic experiences, and all he's felt was pain, and anger."
"Let's test that theory" he said. My father grabbed him by the arm.
"Don't hurt him too much" he said.
"It's the only way" he answered.
"He's been going through enough" he shot back.
"He won't be going through anything if we leave him like this" he said.
"Would you guys please stop bickering. Your voices are aggravating" another voice said popping up in the corner. They stepped from the shadows, and revealed themselves. I took a sigh of relief. Thank god it had only been Harmattan.
"You" My father said angrily.
"Hello again" he said with a grin.

8 166Infested
One billion people from one hundred thousand universes have been dropped onto a singular planet five times larger than Earth. In the corner of their eye were three numbers: 1,000,000,000. 15. 10. Nobody could figure out what it meant until fifteen years after the initial transportation, as out of the blue, a message repeated itself in their minds for twenty-four hours. “Only ten can return. The rest will die. There is no time limit,” Following the global message, genocides ran rampant, with established friendships broken, families ripped apart, blood alliances betrayed, and leaders felled in seconds. How? [The Evgnomon] The Beholden; hidden throughout the realm were artefacts: weapons, information, tools from beings and societies of a higher plane. It was up to the humans to scour the land and take them by hook or by crook if they ever wished to go back. Whisked into this world as a mere babe, I suppose it was lucky I didn’t die in the chaos. But as I stare into the rotten, tattered pages of the accursed book laid upon the pedestal in front of me; and the unnerving gaze of our professor trained onto the back of my head silently pressuring me to become the avatar of grotesques unspeakable and undecipherable to the human mind. O, how I wish I did...
