《My Mute Mate》Ch. 29

~Daniel's POV~ (Whaaaaat?)
I watch Dove fall asleep underneath my arm, studying her face in pure contentedness. I hope she doesn't have nightmares, God knows what nightmares already plague her everyday with her eyes open. May she just have blissful sleep. Her makeup is smudged, and her hair is kind of messed up, and her clothes are dirty from the pavement, but she still looks beautiful. I hear Calum's band playing softly inside and thank Sym mentally for choosing the house that's nearly completely sound proof.
I would take her inside so she can sleep peacefully but it's still too loud in there. I wouldn't be surprised if the party kept up for at least a few more hours before it started winding down. I would take her back to the house, but there's no way out if the backyard unless you go through the house, plus I've been drinking. I'm not going to even chance the possibility of us crashing and her getting hurt.
I carefully lift her head so I can remove my arm before laying her back down. I take off my sweatshirt and somehow get it on her without her waking up. I lay her down in a chair so she's not on the ground before going back into the house.
I search for Sym in the crowd and of course she's dancing right next to where the boys are playing. I tap her shoulder and signal her to follow me into the kitchen.
"Hey what's up?" She looks drunk and I smile a bit at her trying to look sober.
"Dove's knocked out outside and I'd like to take her upstairs so she can sleep in my spare room." I explain and she nods.
"Yeah, I'll get the guys to take a break for a moment so you can carry her up." She heads back into the living room and I rush back to Dove before any drunkards can get any funny ideas. I see her standing up, half asleep and chuckle. I'm a lot taller than her, so my sweatshirt looks like a dress on her. She looks adorable with the sweatshirt down to the middle of her thighs and a confused look.
"Daniel?" Her soft voice pops into my head groggily and I pick her up bridal style.
"Shh Dove just go back to sleep. I'm taking you inside." I say softly and she nods. We walk inside and I try my best to get by without bumping into people or having to fight to get through. We get into the living room and I see Calums band looking at us. Dove smiles slightly and waves a little bit at Calum. He beams and waves back.
"Goodnight Dove, sleep well!" He calls, covering the mic so it doesn't startle her. I begin to carry her like a child up the stairs because they're not wide enough for me to carry her normally. I go to the first door I find thats not locked and walk in on people getting it on. I shut the door quickly but quietly before moving on. I hear the band start back up downstairs as I finally find an empty room. I lift up the covers and carefully put her underneath before tucking her in.
I fall into a armchair next to the bed and let out a breath I didn't know I was holding. She may be little but she's heavy. I'd never tell her that though. It's not like she's fat she's just a human being and I haven't been training in a while so I'm probably out of shape. A child would probably leave me like this... I really need to work out.

"Daniel..?" Dove asks quietly and I look at her just to see her turned away.
"Yeah?" I respond, my voice disrupting the surprising quiet considering the party downstairs.
"Thank you for taking care of me." Her words catch me off gaurd.
"Oh no problem, really. You were sleepy and drunk and I wasn't going to leave you alone and.." Shut up Daniel. Just shut up.
"I wasn't just talking about tonight." She leaves off with that before I assume she fell asleep. Not about tonight? Then when? Wait.. No there's no way she remembers. She was too little, but then again I'm only a year older...
The door to the room opens and I look over tiredly to see Blake.
"We need to talk, now." Blake commands and I sigh. I stand up and follow him out into the hall.
"What man?" I ask quietly, watching him standing in front of the door so protectively he could be a gaurd.
"I saw you carry her up here. You didn't try anything while she was asleep, right?" He has fire dancing in his eyes. I make an involuntary face of disgust.
"God no man! How could you think I'd take advantage of someone like that! Especially Dove. She's already been through hell, not like you helped with that any." I mutter. I can't tell if his stance relaxed or tensed. At least the fire's gone.
"Yeah I know.. I was young, and dumb."
"That was half a year ago Blake." I give him a dirty look and the fire returns to his eyes.
"Doesn't mean I don't regret what I did. I was so angry at her. Why was she saved and not not my sister? All because of you. But she doesn't know that. But I'm trying every day to make up for what I did." He looks at the ground after his little outburst and it feels like magma races through my veins. I want to push him up against the wall, beat the life out of him, and leave him to die, but instead I give him the dirtiest look I could muster. All my hate and anger poured into it.
"Look. You say you're trying to make up for what you've done, but taking away her voice is something that takes more than jokes and a few slow dances. You have to commit to her. You took away something that she valued most. Did you know that she likes to sing? No? Well we did. She told me that sometimes that took away all the bad in her brain, and you stole it from her. She was fighting her own demons inside of her head and then she had to wake up and face you as well? All because of something that wasn't even her fault. It was my parents and I's fault. And I work every damn day to make it up to her. You try hard? Really now? Jaxon did a better job than you and his was all by luck because he was friends with our friends. You want to make it up to her but you wouldn't even know where to begin, because you're never there! You're never there for the sad faraway looks during conversations, you aren't there for her nightmares every night, to comfort her as she cries because of you! You're the monster in her dreams that terrifies her every night, did you know that? You're never there to find her crying her eyes out in the bathroom because of the horrid scars left upon her neck and the memories that came with them. You weren't there in the days where she gets so done with all of you guys that she's having a mental breakdown behind the stage in the auditorium, and you definitely aren't there when she has such a pain in her heart that she wants to die, because you cause it. If you want the good things about Dove, you have to be there for the bad as well. You can't just want her at her best at school, when she's happy, you have to be there for when she's at her worst. The first day I met her I saw what you had done, and how there was constant tears at the brink of her eyes. But if you're not there for that, then you'll never know that she is probably the most kind hearted, forgiving, understanding, lovable person I've ever met. She can't speak to you physically but she loves to listen to all of your problems, and shes always there for you. She'll make you happy and laugh when you're so angry you could kill someone. She's beautiful and knows how to appreciate all the little things in life because at some point she had nothing. You want to know why I saved her and not your sister? Because she's special. I was a loner in school and I would watch you guys. Even then you would push her around and leave her out. Unless you wanted her for something she was always on the outside of the circle, yet the smile never left her face, because she was so happy to have even that little. One day, she saw me, and she took time to talk to the weird kid who's parents were rogues. All she did was say hello and ask if I wanted to play tag with you guys before your sister pulled her away. I saved Dove because she's kind. So if you want to get to know more than just the punching bag and actually have her forgive you, you better work at it harder than you have ever worked at anything. She's not a normal girl, so she wont forgive you like one. If she pushes you away, try again another day. Show her you care. That's how you do it Blake. And until you're ready to understand that if she accepts you as her mate, I will be watching you, and if you mess up, I will personally destroy you and everything you care about just like my mother did to yours, screw off." I spit at him and he doesn't reply. I simply take him by the shoulders and move him out of the way. I must've pushed him aside harder than I thought, because he stumbles and uses the wall to catch himself.

I walk back into the room to see Dove still sound asleep. Her previous words bounce around rapidly in my head as I collapse tiredly in the side chair. The party seems to be winding down a little bit downstairs. I pull out my phone to check the time.
2:17 A.M.
The party should end soon. But there's no way she remembers, right? She would've brought it up before. Said I looked familiar or something. Did she block it out? Did the alcohol mess with her brain enough to bring back memories she was trying to keep away? She was only four..
I continue to wonder as my mind begins to fade into sleep.
~~~~Flashback to 12 years ago~~~~~
////Birds eye view////
The children were out playing in the yard, no one expected the rogues who were encroaching on their territory. Hundreds or so of them, and only two or so of children in the crowd. Daniel stood next to his mother, confused of why this had to happen. But all that matters is that it did. Daniel was unable to shift yet, so his mother told him to climb onto her back.
Then it began.
The rogues rushed into the unaware territory, destroying and stealing anything they could. Daniel closed his eyes as warmth splattered across his face. He knows its blood, and so he doesn't react when he wipes it off of his face just to see that it is indeed what he thought. Death is spreading, carrying the souls of lost warriors to their rightful place. Daniel stares at what he swears was indeed the grim reaper.
She didn't look like any of the stories you heard. She wasn't a skeleton like you hear, or a spirit with no face. It was a young girl, in a flowy yellow dress, with big green eyes and strawberry colored hair. She didn't have any shoes, and seemed very sad as she knelt beside the bodies, a grieving cry being called as she took their souls, always finishing the ritual with a kiss. With every soul she carried, more blood collected on her dress.
She seemed to follow little Daniel, who hung on for dear life on his mothers fur. His mother went into a building to find three children huddled inside next to the Luna. Little Blake, Dove, and Blaire shook with fear at the sight.
The Luna immediately stepped up and shifted to defend her children. Hannah, Daniels mother, lunged, throwing Daniel off her back towards the children.
"You..." Dove had whispered when she and Daniel met eyes. Daniel sat on the ground and watched the fight, scared and sad. It took mere minutes for Hannah to scratch out the Luna's throat. Blake screamed for his mother as Hannah turned to them. Blake stood, prepared to fight the monster stood front of him. Hannah simply swiped him away towards the wall, where he landed with a thud and a cry on the other side of the room. Daniel watched his mother stalk the two cowering girls, as Blaire pushed Dove forward. A sacrifice. Dove whimpered and spread out her arms to protect her betraying friend as Hannah stood right over her. Daniel quickly dove onto Dove to protect her.
"Daniel, what are you doing. Move out of the way, this has to be done." Hannah growled at her son. Daniel just shook his head and encased Dove with his slightly bigger body.
"Fine. Move her out of the way. The other must die." Daniel obediently did as he was ordered as more tears slipped down Dove's face. He hid Dove's small face in his chest as Blaire's screams filled the room. He couldn't let Dove die. She was the only one who cared. The cry of the Reaper could be heard seconds later. A quick death.
"No!" Blakes cry could be heard from across the room. Daniel looked over his shoulder just in time to see another wolf come bounding down the stairs, a powerful aura surrounding him. The Alpha, Blake and Blaires father. The Alpha becomes enraged at the sight of his daughters cut up corpse. Daniel looks away as the Alpha springs. The Alpha digs his teeth into Hannahs right leg, causing Hannah to let out a yelp. Hannah manages to get her teeth around the nape of his neck, throwing him to the wall, a chunk of flesh being torn away as she does.
He shakes his fur out and leaps again. He gets his claws down her neck as she gets a hold of his throat. Hannah bites down, knowing that her life is ending. The Reaper has been watching from a crouched position next to Daniel. Daniel looks at her with wide eyes and she smiles at him sweetly before standing to take the soul of the now dead Alpha. Her cry is heard not once, but twice, as she takes the soul of Hannah, who has passed away as well. Daniel watches the girl walk back over, her seeming to be around the same age as him. She bends back down and kisses Daniels cheek before fading away.
Daniel is left in the dark room, with two children who probably hate him, covered in blood, and the kiss of death still lingering on his cheek.
And he began to cry.
Rise of the Green
This is set three hundred years before my other fiction, Journal of an Adventurer. With the age of disbelief coming to a close, people shoved to the side and rejected from mainstream sociality came together to form an organisation. If they worked together, they would protect their way of life, which conflicts with their technological mindset. In Favinonia, a place of learning and advancement. Where the world’s new technologies are created and studied. University Engineers reworking various new designs of past do-dads and gismos to serve the need of the populous. In a world still filled with magic, the Favinonian people have turned away from magic to embrace this new reasoning. Deprived of faith, the populous was yes advance but lacked humanity and needed to move onto the next step, losing emotion and losing touch with the higher realm. These cause some to fall for other means, pursuing that need to fill with devil and demon cults. In the chaos and ignorance came a community of healers with ancient knowledge before the Massacre of Magic. These few will eventually found the church of the Trinity whose three aspects of Green, life and death with healing and agriculture, Orange, retribution and protection with the flame of passion and Blue, knowledge and law with the clarity of the mind.
8 113Essentia Animus
Second Book of the Soul - Celesi Veil Trilogy When the living essence of three girls are put at risk, giving room for a second essence within themselves, even their hyper developed fantasy world might not be enough to contain their new found ambitions. Another story of another world, these three girls must adapt to their new essence, all while each is left to question if they are truly still even alive. While this story is a sequel of the previous story in the trillogy, it is also fully capable of standing alone in its own light, taking place in a distant corner of a Celese returning readers will be otherwise incapable of recognizing. However, the events of the story are a spoiler for the previous book, in case that matters to anyone. This story takes place over two centuries after the events of Vitae Memorandum, when Celese had developed into an advanced world, improved to a point that it is much like modern-day Earth while still using the gift instead of technology. The Aethyx languages are still present in this book, and even English still exists in the world after the events of the previous book, but are much less of a focus after the same closing events of the previous book. What is instead important is how the ending events of the previous book had resulted in the start of the Instrumentation Era, and exactly how the gift translates in a modern-day sense. While this book is still effectively a fantasy world of its own kind of magic, it isn’t the classical medieval scene that would be typical for such a story. The laws of science still do not exist in Celese, but that didn’t stop it from developing into something that looks similar enough. Earth itself still remains present on the other side of the veil, and its previous exposure continues to shape and advance Celese into the world it has become. This story contains scenes exibiting mania and similar dark themes, as it goes to great length to explore concepts of life and death. While the degree of such themes should not be considered to be as serious compared to matters such as actual horror, the psychological depth is still siginifcant enough to be potentially concerning for people sensitive to matters of this nature, such as any individuals with concerns questioning matters of suicide, mental harm, or a variety of emotional injuries. While none of these subjects actually occur in the story, readers who are currently troubled by such matters may find themselves considering old wounds if they are especially capable of empathy while reading, which could lead to furthered emotional or mental stress. Readers with a high capacity for empathy may find themselves troubled by concerns regarding any potential lack of mental/emotional control as well as considerations regarding the meaning of death. Readers who appreciate subtle dark themes in a story may instead find this to be an interesting twist of the same idea.
