Their outfits in this order from left to right, Trinidee, Dove, and Sym.^^
--
"I feel accomplished that we talked you out of dresses and skirts." Sym laughs and Trinidee punches her arm.
"You're lucky those sweaters were actually cute." Trinidee tries to act mad but she's grinning from ear to ear.
"Are you guys sure I look good enough in mine? I haven't seen Calum in weeks and he's been on California with all those pretty girls in bathing suits and tanned skin who're probably throwing themselves at him off stage.." Trinidee cuts Sym off by placing her hand over her mouth.
"Girl, you're his literal soulmate. He's probably freaking out just as much as you are. I'm sure he misses you. Also, yes, you do look crazy good in yours." Trinidee gives some wise words of encouragement and Sym nods. I watch their conversation quietly, just enjoying the moment.
"So Dove, me and Sym we're talking about how we should all meet up in your room to get ready." Trinidee gives me a sweet smile.
'Why my room? Masons always in my room.' I furrow my eyebrows and Sym laughs.
"Don't worry about that silly. I told Jaxon and Leo that they need to take them out 'for their birthday' to an amusement park." Sym smiles and I nod.
'Okay then. We'll meet in my room.' We climb into the car and start our way home.
~Time Skip To Friday~
Trinidee pokes and prods at my eyelids relentlessly to give me the 'perfect smokey cat eye' for the party, matched up with a light pink lipstick. Sym has light gray eyeshadow and a dark plum lipstick, while Trinidee has a smokey eye and lip gloss.
Trinidee finally steps back and admires her work happily, seeming contented with her attack on my face.
I stand up, stretching my legs, only to discover my right leg has fallen fast asleep. I trip and fall onto my face. They both start laughing at me as I get up, rubbing my nose.
"Cmon clumsy. We're gonna be late." Sym smiles at me and I shoot her a glare.
"Shut up. Let's just get going if ya'll are done laughing." I snap playfully and they just laugh harder. I smile and shake my head. They are truly ridiculous.
I walk out of the room without them but they soon catch up after they finally stopped laughing. I almost wish that they had kept laughing because the quiet afterwards left me to my anxious thoughts alone.
What if something goes wrong? What if Blake somehow gets me alone and finishes the job on my throat? What if some creep hits on me and I cant say no? What if I make a total mess of myself and Mason and Rose get mad at me and everything goes to hell? A huge knot forms in my stomach.
"Yknow guys I'm not so sure I wa-"
"We're here!" Sym exclaims from the front and my stomach drops, knot and all. "Sorry Dove, what were you saying?" She turns back and gives me an award winning smile. I'd hate to ruin their fun. I simply smile and shake my head. Her eyebrows furrow.
"Are you sure?" I nod, please Sym stop asking before I change my mind. I've never been to an actual party before. I usually just set up and hide in my room.

"Yo are we going or what? We're gonna be late to our best friends party." Trinidee calls from the walk way. Okay. Go time Dove. Just be thankful you're not in heels like they are. I get out of the car and take a deep breath. I walk up the way with the girls chattering excitedly in front of me.
It isn't until halfway up the walk way that I realize the house is quiet and doesn't smell of alcohol. My curiosity spikes and Sym opens the door. Then it all hits me at once, pushing me back a step. The smell of liquor and weed, the heat of too many bodies packed together, and the sound of music played too loud. The hit of it all makes the knot in my stomach even worse and makes me want to throw up.
Sym seems to sense my tension because she reached back and grabbed my hand, giving it a little squeeze. She pulls me into the house and I take another deep breath. Well, two minutes in and I already lost my friends, fantastic.
I stumble around, trying to find Mason or Rose to wish them a happy birthday. I haven't been to a party since pin the donkey was an appropriate game to play. I'm kind of surprised of how few people are here. Enough to fill the two story house, but not enough to make it impossible to breathe.
I tripped a few times, but I finally found Mason. He's drinking and talking with Leo and Rose. The memories of drunk Leo come forward but I force them down. Tonight's about Mase and Rose.
"Hey guys! Happy birthday!" I catch their attention and I find myself immediately in Mason's arms.
"Thank you so much Dove this party was exactly what I needed!" Mason gives me a hug before setting me free, just to be trapped in Rose's embrace. I hug her as well before I'm allowed to breathe again. Mason hands me a cup with a red liquid that smells horrid.
"Drink it! It's only sprite, vodka, and a little secret ingredient." Rose winks at me. "I came up with it, it's called the Rose. How original, right?" Rose laughs and downs the rest of whatever's in her cup. She seems fine, but Mason seems to be on the brink of wasted. I look down at my cup before counting to three and downing it, trying to look like Rose and not like this is the first drink I've ever had.
"Ah, first drink little sister?" Leo laughs and I try to get the 'Oh god that's bitter' look off my face. I also try to not immediately glare. Be the bigger person Dove. I simply nod my head and someones arm gets thrown around my shoulders.
"It's okay princess it only gets easier." Blake smiles at me, beer in hand. I shake off his arm with a hint of disgust. Well, I mean, Blake isn't that bad. He's actually super cute and I like the tingly sensation our bond creates.
"Oh am I now?" Blake laughs from beside me after he asks Mason why he's laughing so hard.
"Dammit Mase why'd you tell him?" I ask and he shrugs.
"Oh honey, look at you. Already tipsy after one drink. Well, technically The Rose counts as four, and the first drink you have will have a greater affect on you because you're brain is like-" Rose keeps talking and Mason covers her mouth with his hand.

"She rambles on when she drinks, she could go on forever at this point." Rose tries to pry Masons hand away and a goofy smile plasters onto my face. Suddenly a song I recognize comes on and I have the sudden urge to go dance. I don't tell anyone anything I just go to the living room where the music is coming from. Everybody's either grinding on each other or standing off to the side talking. I don't want to grind, I just wanna dance!
I start moving to the beat of the song and I see Sym and Trinidee at the 'DJ booth', as it's labeled with a poster. Explains the music. Sym sees me and says something to Trinidee before slowly making her way down the booth and over to me. She ditched her heels and her natural wavy hair is especially frizzy.
"Dove! Let's dance!" Sym yells over the music, even more bubbly than usual. I nod and she grabs my hands and I notice she doesn't smell like alcohol but looks drunk all the same. She starts dancing with me and I take this moment to be glad that we can mind link.
"Sym are you drunk?" I ask and she laughs before shaking her head.
"Nah I haven't had a drink yet, but the endorphins from dancing makes me feel like I have. The music is my drug. Speaking of which, Cal and the guys should be here soon! Don't miss the show, it's gonna be amazing! Their singing a new song." She somehow explains and I smile. Of course. We continue dancing for a few songs and I start to understand what she means. The music lowers my inhibitors and heightens my mood. I feel like I'm walking on air, but also super dizzy. A slower song comes on for a minute and every body but the mates ditch the 'dance floor', or just the cleared space between the booth and the couch behind us.
Me and Sym had started to fake waltz and laugh at how stupid we probably look. I don't care, we could look as stupid as anything anyone's ever seen and I wouldn't care. I'm having the time of my life. Sym twirls me and when I come back around somehow Blake had taken her place. I furrow my eyebrows in confusion and he laughs.
"You were spinning around for longer than you think. I hope you don't mind that I cut in." He gives me a sweet smile and I cant help but try and think back to all the times I'd seen Blake drunk, but I cant think of any. I'm sure there's memories, and the drink just got to my head. Well, one dance wouldn't hurt... Right?
We're still dancing as if we were doing the waltz and be twirls me again, like I was a princess. This is weird, when I thought of dancing with Blake on the way here, I never thought of this. I thought I'd be just some other girl he was dancing with and I'd have to keep smacking his hands off of me, but he's being a real gentleman. His hand isn't wandering and his eyes have no evil glint.
I've never actually noticed Blake's eyes before actually. I'm always cowering too much to lift my head. They're blue, but not a deep blue, but not icy like Daniels. They're grayish blue, as if they were blue one day and someone sucked all the life out of them the next. I was always told to never look in his eyes, and now I cant look away. I'm not even going to deny the lightning that sparks up through my body when our eyes meet.
All of a sudden Blake looks to the side, seeming irritated that our staring contest got cut off. I follow his gaze to a nervous looking Daniel and Blake drops his hands.
"Yeah sure. Just... Be careful with her okay?" Blake says and Daniel nods. Blake walks away and Daniel grabs my hand.
"May I have this dance?" He asks and I nod, trying to shake off that trance I was in. It just hit me that the song had ended and everyone was back to grinding. How long did I dance with Blake? Daniel sits there kind of awkwardly, just looking at me and I smile.
"What? Do I have something on my face?" I ask and he chuckles lightly and looks away, his face turning pink. Must've been the colored strobe lights they have up.
"Uh, no sorry just, you look.. nevermind. Anyway, I'm not much of one for dancing, but I wanted to talk to you and also because I know you hate Blake, so I was trying to save you." He smiles at me sheepishly and I can't help the grin spreading across my face.
"Yeah. Let's go outside to talk, I wanna see the stars." He nods and grabs my hand before leading me through the crowd. We go through the kitchen and I grab a random bottle. I didn't read it, I just grabbed whatever I could get my hands on as I walked by. We get outside and I read the bottle. My eyes are blurry so I hand it to Daniel. He laughs when he reads it.
"Dove.. Did you really just grab rum off the table in there? Why?" He asks and I shrug.
"The bottle looked pretty." Great justification.
"Well, I only like a few liquors, and one of them is rum, so cheers." He smiles and takes a swig from the bottle before handing it to me. I take a drink as well before laying down on the porch.
"Look Daniel, the stars are out." I pull him down with me and point at them.
"Yeah. My grandpa used to be really into stars and astrology." He says fondly and I take another sip of the rum. We talk back and forth and I try to remember where we've done this before. Too soon, my eyes get very heavy and I fall asleep, an almost empty bottle next to me, and the cement as my pillow.

Entangled Fates Book 1 - Quantum Beginnings
“By far, the greatest danger of Artificial Intelligence is that people conclude too early that they understand it.” —Eliezer Yudkowsky Hey all, we're moving over to book 2. This content is in a state of transition. The book is now availble on Amazon (includes extra chapters): https://www.royalroad.com/amazon/B07W1534R8 Artificial intelligence was nearly mankind’s last invention. AI took off like a rocket, then when it racked up an impressive death toll, it crashed before it could blossom and took most high-tech industries with it. Resistance and fears became deep-set. Two decades after the infamous Rev. 4.6 incidents, humanity hasn’t quit dreaming of the wealth and power that could be at their fingertips. A new generation of mega-corporations rose from the ashes. When one melds a quantum computer to a barely functional mental patient as a PR move, there are those who seek to profit, those who want to destroy it, and Alex. Alex Sage is a typical college student trying to keep up his grades and maybe find a meaningful connection with the fairer sex. Then, an automated semi crashes into his home, killing his family and turning his head into a pin cushion in the process. Alex awakens to find most of his memories gone and an illegal AI hidden in his brain implant. Now the pet project of a tech billionaire and heavily in debt, Alex struggles to stay valuable enough to be kept online. Still grappling with the repercussions of his injuries, and threats from a dangerous anti-augmentation political movement, there are no easy answers and threats loom around every corner. Alex must use whatever resources he can to escape from under the thumb of a ruthless corporation, while keeping those he comes to love safe. Chapters will stay up on RRL until Aug 10. It'll go up on Kindle Unlimited after that. How do you get those extra chapters I didn't have planned for RR? If you want them, they'll be in the published book. Book 2 will still make sense without them - I made sure of that. But... isn't $3 a lot for extra chapters? Think of it as tipping me for a good job and you'd also be getting my eternal thanks. If you enjoyed it so much that the idea of missing out a few chapters haunts you, I did my job as an author and made an engaging story. What's in those extra chapters? Resolving a few issues, set up for the cybernetic revolution, a rather intense sex scene with a new partner, revelations of who's really pulling strings, and a bit of set up for book 2. Complaints that people missed out on it when it was published here won't help (sorry!). I posted this for the folks who helped me shape the book, which is you all! (Again, yay!) But... Why! Why not keep it all on RR forever? My editor likes being paid for one. For two, I'd like the ability to get broader readership. If I break even on editor costs, I'll be incredibly happy. What about book 2? Drafts for Book 2 will go up around Sept 10. My draft of Book 2 is done, and it will be handed to the editor once Book 1 is published. Feedback has been even more positive. Beta readers devoured it and wanted more. I'll add a link to Book 2 once it's up on RR. I'm more or less, using you all for Beta Readers, so you get it before it's "canon" and edited. I invite active and meaningful feedback during this process. In return, you get early access to chapters. That does mean that the book content or plot might be adjusted before it gets published as I refine it. Sex Y/N? Yes. I heard the feedback, 90% wanted it explicit. You all will get the "full" experience. Will I dump all of book 2 here? Honestly, I'm not sure yet. At a minimum, it'll be up to the 75% mark as we collect feedback, much like what I did with book 1. It really depends on how good the feedback is and how nice people are. Lots of support + meaningful feedback to make it better = higher likelihood you get all the book. Will be it up here indefinitely? No, it'll probably go up on KU at some point, but I'll make sure there's enough time for a large readership to grab it here. Then we move to book 3 which already is around 60K words already. What about other adventures in the same universe/characters? Yep. Absolutely. Nothing ready to share yet though. I plan to keep those side chapters and more slice of life stories as RR exclusive. Since I'm carving this off in book-sized segments, I'll have to figure out where those disconnected story arcs belong. I'm open to suggestions.
