he wind blew at her face, causing strands of red hair to fly about. It was dark, but the moon was high, illuminating the beach before her and the fortress behind. Her bare feet dug into the sand as she tried to outrun the blood and pain that haunted her.

Cara risked a glance behind her and an empty beach was all she saw before her body hit the sand and the whole world turned black.

he man in the lighthouse looked from its windows high above, hidden in the shadow of the light. The waves crashed against the shore and the gods thundered above, but neither of those had caught his attention. It was the silent beach he was staring at, or rather, the bedraggled girl running from her own ghost as the shadows finally reached her.

Anyone else would have been scared out-of-their-wits or at least been slightly disturbed, but not Dorian. Such sights happening so close to the Armeshire Manor did not surprise him anymore. The only thing that upset him about this was that it had been a woman, it was much harder to watch than any of the other men who had succumbed at that very beach.
