《One For Three》26 - Mirror

The deep blue sky greeted her as she opened her eyes. Thousands upon thousands of tiny little specks dotted its surface, shining and twinkling amidst the darkness. She looked around and saw the wide expanse of land, stretching far beyond what she can see.
"Where am I?" wondered Vera.
The darkness never answered her call.
---
Countless days have passed, and nothing around her changed. The stars twinkled and shone, oblivious to her boredom and impatience. She lost track of time, as neither the sky had changed its colors, nor any other creature aside from her existed in the world she found herself into.
She was dying from boredom. Idleness. Not even the thought of her mission brought solace under the monotonous world surrounding her.
---
It changed after several moments.
She was gazing up at the stars above, trying to count the endless number of stars to pass boredom. Anything just to itch her desire for something to do.
Several moments after she reached a thousand, the sky distorted from one drop. As if it was disturbed, the whole sky shook and waved, like someone dropped a drop of water.
'What is happening?' mused Vera. 'Is this world coming to an end?'
Suddenly, on the section of the sky, the face of an innocent child, not even on the earliest stages of adolescence, was projected. Their eyes met, her amethyst eyes staring within the child's emerald ones.
And they both screamed.
---
Countless hours later, it seemed like the child found enough courage to peek once more. Fear and confusion was evident in her eyes, yet she braved through it and stared directly at her.
"What are you? Why are you in a mirror? Am I dreaming?" The child's innocent voice was a melody in her ears.

'Finally, here is the final wisher. I can finally do something!' Vera remembered her identity for this mission. "I am Evelynn."
"Hi, I am Sonia." The child shyly tucked her luscious blonde hair behind her ears.
"I'll let you in to a secret." Vera leaned in, as if she was sharing a potentially dangerous secret no one should know, aside from the both of them. And it really was that kind of secret. "I am a fairy sent to fulfill your wishes, because you've been a kind girl."
Vera believed this, even if she had no clue about the girl's identity. She just felt it. "However, I only have enough magic to grant three of them. Choose wisely!"
"Really? You can grant any wish?" wondered the child, as if she couldn't believe what she was hearing.
The child looked behind her, and shifted her position, as if she was hiding from something.
Or someone.
'Hmm?' thought Vera, but she steered away from those thoughts. "Yes! As your reward for finally freeing me after waiting for countless years, I'm ready to fulfill your first wish, granted that you wish hard enough for it."
"Wow..." The child's eyes sparkled at her words. The child frowned and was in deep thought, thinking about what she wanted to ask from the fairy. Vera patiently waited for her to decide. After several minutes, she had a hesitant smile on her face, and said, "If you could really grant any wish, then I wish to be with... my father..."
Vera sensed that the child's wish was true to her heart, yet she couldn't resist but ask, "Why?"
The child shyly shifted and looked own. She bit her nails, too. "It's because I haven't met him before."

"Couldn't he be dead?" Vera then put a hand over her mouth, realizing that she had been tactless and insensitive. "I---"
The child's verdant eyes flashed in childish anger. "He couldn't be dead. My mom said that they just got separated. He was forced to leave us, but he loved me. He did! He even left a locket for me! Look!" The child held up a locket chained with a necklace on her neck. "See?"
"I believe you," and she really did. The child's conviction left no room for doubts. "But may I ask one last question before I grant your wish?"
"What is it?"
"Where is your mom? Where are you staying now?"
"My m-mom?" Tears began to fall, once by one on the child's pale, rosy cheeks. "She died a month ago, from a sickness. Her last words to me were to never give up, and to never hate my father for leaving us. That's why I live in an orphanage now, where they just bully me around."
"Is that so?" Vera hummed, thinking. "Okay then." Vera gave the child a smile that helped her feel at ease and calm down. "Close your eyes, and state your wish clearly, okay? Make sure that you really, really wish it from your heart. Believe in it, or it won't happen."
The child nodded, and closed her eyes. "I wish to find my father." Vera waved her hand, light trailing behind her delicate fingertips.
'It's working!' Vera watched in amazement as the flickering light from her fingertips faded into nothingness. 'That never happened before! It's real!'
Whatever she was thinking about was gone when the child innocently asked, "Was that okay, Eve?" Noticing her slip, the child backtracked, "Can I call you Eve?"
"You did fine, really!" Vera beamed at the child. "And yes, you can call me Eve."
Vera noticed the child's eyes beginning to droop, probably because of the exhaustion and surprise.
"Sleep now, Sonia. You're tired, right?"
The child tried to ignore her drowsiness. "I can still---" but Sonia let out a huge yawn.
Vera chuckled softly. "I insist. Lie down on your bed. Sleeping late will only harm your growth. You don't want to grow short, right?"
Sonia nodded, and proceeded to lie down. A few minutes later, the child was fast asleep, her chest rising and falling rhythmically. Vera watched over her sleeping figure through the lens of the mirror.
'This was something unbelievable, after all. If I were in her position, I wouldn't even believe it.'
All there was left was to wait.

Transformers: Heroes
Heroic Decepticons Alternate Universe. A century ago, the eons-old war between the Autobots and the Decepticons suddenly and inexplicably came to an end. Since then, many have gone their separate ways, whilst others still hold onto the bitter memories of war. Now, as Autobots and Neutrals join forces in a new directive to capture every Decepticon still left alive, it appears that the Autobots will finally get their chance to even the score, and defeat their enemies once and for all. But when they become the target of seemingly random, yet terrifying attacks, some begin to realize that the enemy may be much closer to home than anyone could have ever imagined. Author's Notes: While it helps to have a little bit of prior knowledge about the world of Transformers, you don't need to be a Transformers fan to enjoy this story, or even a Decepticons fan! One thing I can say for sure is that it is unlike any Transformers fan fiction you've ever come across. This story aims to explore one possible set of motivations in depth in a setting of ongoing conflict between the Autobots (and, more recently, the Alliance - a collaboration between Autobots and Neutrals) and the Decepticons. Although this story takes a lot of things from the G1 cartoon, it is by no means strictly G1 toon oriented and introduces characters and/or ideas from other continuities (Sentinel Prime, Jhiaxus, Thunderblast and Rook (not the Autobot Rook - the other Rook!). Set primarily on Cybertron and Alternity City, it also deviates from certain key elements common in Transformers canon. For one thing, the general consensus that all Autobots are good and all Decepticons are bad is challenged, and a new meaning to the motivations behind their conflict is offered (which is a recurring theme in my Heroic Decepticons Alternate Universes). Some personalities have been altered from their canonical profiles as a necessity (Megatron being the most obvious example) and developed to a much deeper level than the original cartoon allowed. I hope you enjoy and thanks for reading.
