Soon after arriving at Davina's family's old cabin, she knelt in front of Davina alongside Cami and Kaleb, who happened to be Kol. Davina was sitting in a car, unconscious from Klaus' attack on the cabin.
Ophelia was waiting for the best time to ask the boy what the hell he was doing around Davina, but she already told Kol that she wouldn't tell anyone of his identity just yet and there was three people around her who didn't know Kaleb was actually Kol.
Klaus stood in the doorway of the cabin, unable to enter. He held the White Oak Stake in his left hand as he stared down at the group.
"I would give her my blood, but I know she'll be pissed about it when she wakes up," Ophelia commented, "But we can still get her to a hospital."
Kol turned to look at Klaus with a smirk on his face, "Oh, hello, darling," He sarcastically greeted his older brother, but Klaus didn't know that it was him, "Back to huff and puff and blow the house down?"
"It's funny how often a person's sharp tongue can end up cutting their own throat," Klaus commented, earning a glare from Ophelia.
"Shut up," She spoke up, "Both of you. And, Klaus? Give him a break."
"You should listen to your girlfriend," Kol commented, earning an annoyed look from Ophelia, "You know, you might wanna try a bit of lavender under your pillow. It does wonders for pillocks with anger issues."
"Hey, shut it," Cami warned Kol, growing annoyed with him.
"I promised Ophelia when she arrived here that I would not kill Davina. I said nothing of this insolent sod," Klaus commented.
"You're not killing him," Ophelia demanded sternly and Cami quickly stood up, bringing Klaus away from the cabin to talk.
Kol turned to Ophelia, smirking, "He didn't deny when I said you were his girlfriend. Is it true?" He asked her curiously.
Ophelia rolled her eyes at Kol, "Shut up before I tear out your tongue and feed it to you," She threatened him in a low tone, "Maybe then you'll learn to stay away from Davina."
"What are you going on about?" Kol questioned, lifting his hands up in mock surrender, "My intentions for Davina are pure."
"Bull," Ophelia replied with an attitude as she suddenly grabbed a handful of Kol's hair, causing him to wince as she gripped onto him tighter, "You do anything to harm her in any way and I'll kill you myself, understand? Davina is my family and I may consider you family also, but I'll choose her over you any day, so remember that."
"Who knew you were so kinky," Kol commented, gesturing to her pulling his hair, "Wonder why my brother's so fond of you."
Ophelia rolled her eyes, finally letting go of him. Kol smirked, rubbing his head, "I like her," He confessed quietly, gesturing to Davina, "She's different than anyone I've ever met before."
Ophelia couldn't help but smile, "That she is," She replied quietly.
Just then, Klaus walked over, ending their conversation, "You've got a way with words," He suddenly spoke up, causing Kol to turn to glance at Ophelia, both of them realizing that Klaus was catching on.
"Well, I've traveled," Kol replied, deciding to go with it.
"You seemed to have crossed continents to weasel your into not just Davina's, but also Ophelia's good graces thereby meddling in my family business," Klaus began to explain and both Kol and Ophelia stood up, turning to face him, "Strange, isn't it? Unless of course, it's your family business."

Kol smirked up at Klaus mischievously, "You know, ever since my dinner with my mother and Finn...I've been wondering when you might make an appearance, Kol."
Kol chuckled as he dramatically bowed, "Then the jig is up." He replied, "Hello, brother."
"It's not that I begrudge you hitching a ride back to the land of the living. It's just that you're making all the wrong friends, brother. Except for Ophelia, of course. And I have half a mind to show you how wrong you are." Klaus explained to his younger brother.
"But you're not going to do that, aren't you?" Kol told Klaus daringly, "Because Ophelia here told you to leave me alone. I'm curious. Tell me, darling, do you take one of those little plastic baggies out when she takes you for a walk?"
Ophelia ignored Kol's question, her mind focusing on what was happening outside the cabin with Cami, "Ophelia, I've changed my mind. I am gonna kill him after all," He told the girl standing before her, but was ignored, "Ophelia, what is it?"
Ophelia looked up at Klaus with wide eyes, "Something's wrong," She informed Klaus, a worried look on her face, "Go check on Cami."
Klaus nodded, walking off to check on Cami. Ophelia glanced at Kol before pushing past him, following Klaus out. She gasped when she saw the driver's side door stained with blood. Klaus rushed to the trunk, only to find it to be empty, meaning Mikael had escaped.
As they headed back to the cabin, Klaus dialed Elijah's number, only to have it go to voicemail, "Elijah, where are you? Mikael's loose with the stake, and Cami is a hostage...and I'm weaponless and in need of reinforcement urgently."
Klaus stopped in front of the doorway of the cabin to find Kol rocking in the rocking chair without a care in the world, "Wake her up. Tell her to get Mikael back here now," He ordered in a stern tone.
"Well, let me think about that," Kol mockingly replied as he turned to glance at Davina before turning back to Klaus, "No. But you should probably get going, Nik. Mikael, he's probably jonesing for a restorative snack about now. It'd be a shame for you to find, uh, Cami, is it...nothing more than a bloodless husk."
"We're not done, you and I," Klaus replied before speeding off.
"I'll be back," Ophelia told Kol, sending him a glare before following after Klaus.
_____
After talking with Klaus on his walk to find Cami, Klaus had insisted that Ophelia stay with Kol and Davina to make sure they didn't make an even bigger mess.
She walked into the cabin to see Kol inflicting a pain infliction spell on Davina as she cried out in pain.
Without hesitation, she thrusted her hand forward, casting her own spell on Kol. Kol yelled out in pain, clutching his head, "Okay, okay, okay," Kol quickly spoke up, trying to reason with Ophelia, knowing that he was no match for her.
"Hurt her again and you're dead," Ophelia threatened him before lowering her hand as she stopped the spell.
Davina glanced at Ophelia before beginning to walk toward Kol, "You ruined the spell," She growled, "And now my friends are gonna die because of you!"
"My mother said, 'Kill the spell, or kill her.' And I happen to like you." Kol informed her and unlike Davina, Ophelia could tell that he was telling the truth.

Davina glared at him, both furious at him and skeptical of his claims, "Oh, please--" She scoffed loudly.
"Listen, you don't disobey Mother Dearest without some consequences," Kol told her, "Yes, she brought me back to life, but she's mad as a hatter. And, that man you've made your pet, my father? Well, he's more of a lunatic than she is."
"What, so you just unleash him?" Ophelia asked him in disbelief, "What the hell is wrong with you, Kol?"
"Davina is the one who brought him back to life first, love!" Kol exclaimed.
"I had him under control!" Davina growled angrily.
"Yeah, right up until the point you didn't, which is when he threatened me!" Kol argued, "He wanted freedom, so I freed him. You wanna know my secrets?" He paused, holding out his arms to Davina, which surprised her, "Then here you go. Go on! Have at it! Yes, I'm a Mikaelson, but I've got just as much reason to loathe the lot of them as you do."
Davina looked down at his wrists and rolled her eyes before trying to brainstorm a new plan. After a moment, she reflexively grabbed her bracelet, "You deactivated my bracelet," She stated, "How?"
"It's a dark object. I know a little something about creating and destroying them," He paused, turning to glance at Ophelia, "So does she."
"Show me. Both of you," Davina insisted.
Kol turned to glance at Ophelia as he relaxed a bit, realizing that he wasn't in immediate danger, "Alright."
After teaching Davina a bit about dark obkect, Ophelia and Kol led her through the woods, in search of Mikael, "Bleeding power from a dark object is tricky, so it does help to know what kind of object it is." Kol explained to her.
"The white oak stake," Davina informed him, causing both Kol and Ophelia to stare at her in disbelief when they realized she was being serious.
Ophelia laughed at Davina patronizingly, "You want to drain the white oak stake, do you? You have got to be joking, D."
Davina shrugged, "It's a dark object. If I can't stop Mikael, I have to stop that stake from working." She explained to them.
"See, usually I like a girl with ambition, but this is just beyond mad," Kol commented, earning an eye roll from both girls before Kol started to walk away.
Davina gave Ophelia a pleading look, hoping she would take her side. Ophelia sighed in defeat and vamp sped over to Kol. She appeared in front of him, stopping him as she placed a hand on his chest, forcing him to stay in place, "You're taking her side?" Kol asked Ophelia in disbelief, "This plan is mad."
"Just show her the spell, Kol!" Ophelia demanded in a stern tone.
"The problem's not the spell, love." He replied, "It's the white oak stake. It's too powerful, you can't just drain it. Best you can hope for is to disable it, but just for a bit."
Kol pushed past Ophelia and walked toward his car, "So, do you have a better solution?" Davina asked as she and Ophelia followed Kol to his car, "Because I don't have time to argue! So, show me the spell, and hand me the keys."
"And what are you going to do? Just drive around until you bump into them?" Kol asked Davina in amusement.
"You may have messed with my bracelet, but I made sure months ago that I would always be able to find Mikael." Davina confidently informed him.
"Alright, fine. Your funeral. I'm still not going to allow you to drive me bloody car, though," Kol replied and just as he was about to open his car door, only to have Ophelia snatch the keys from him.
"Actually, I'm driving. I'm the authority figure here. Neither of you look a day over eighteen. And me? I'm technically twenty-one. So let's hit the road, kids."
Ophelia smirked, sending the two kids a wink before getting into the driver's seat, causing Kol to sigh in defeat.
_____
At the warehouse where Klaus was battling Mikael, Davina was about to walk into the main room when Kol and Ophelia stopped her, "Wait! We need to do this together." Kol argued in protest.
"I'm strong enough on my own." Davina argued back.
Ophelia scoffed loudly, "Like hell you are."
"Ophelia's right," Kol spoke up, "Listen, I know you don't trust me, and that's fair enough. But, these are your mates we're trying to save, here. The only way that we can do this is if we work together."
Kol grabbed one of Ophelia's hand and then grabbed Davina's with his other, "The two of you need to trust me. Alright?"
Ophelia nodded, deciding to trust Kol. She turned to Davina, "Take my hand," She insisted, "Take my hand, Davina. Take my power. Channel me. If you channnel both of us, you'll be able to do this."
Davina grabbed both Ophelia and Kol's hands, nodding her head. She began to channel both of them, all three of them channeling each other, "Mwen la bois. Donne m' la bois, la bois." The three of them chanted and the wind whipped around them, "Mwen la bois. Donne m' la bois, la bois. Mwen la bois. Donne m' la bois, la bois-"
Davina was so overwhelmed by the force of the spell that she was forced to stop chanting, "I can't hold it!" She frantically told Kol and Ophelia.
"Just trust me!" Kol pleaded as Mikael suddenly as he began to approach them.
"Is this your doing, little witch?" He growled at them, "Then you will undo it! Return the power to the stake!"
Davina, Ophelia, Kol continued the spell and when Mikael came near them, Davina let go of one of Kol's hands and thrusted it toward Mikael, keeping him back with a pain infliction spell while continuing the spell to drain the power of the white oak stake.
Kol, wanting to defend Davina and Ophelia, let go of them and lunged for Mikael, but he easily threw Kol across the room and against a chainlink fence. Unable to stop him magically without Kol's help, Mikael grabbed onto Davina and started to feed on her while she screamed. Ophelia wanted to help Davina, but she knew she had to keep chanting, "Mwen la bois. Donne m' la bois, la bois. Mwen la bois. Donne m' la bois, la bois." She chanted and as Mikael went to attack her, she jerked her hand forward, causing him to be thrown against the fence.
Ophelia could still feel the energy coming from the white oak, meaning it was still in Klaus' heart. She vamp-sped into the main room to find Cami trying to pull the stake out of the Klaus' heart. She sped over to her, "Let me," Ophelia growled, roughly ripping stake out of his heart.
She sighed in relief when she saw the color starting to return to his skin. Just then, Mikael entered to find both Cami and Ophelia bent over Klaus' body.
"What do you think you're doing?" he asked Ophelia curiously.
"Stay back," Ophelia warned Cami in a low tone before she sat up. She turned to Mikael, gripping the white oak stake tightly in her hand and pointing it at him, "Stay the hell away from us!" She threatened Mikael, "Or, I swear to God, I'll kill you myself. You know damn well I'm capable of kicking your ass on my own."
Mikael seemed impressed by Ophelia's threat, "You have a warrior's heart, Ophelia Rose. I have always known that about you," he told her, "Perhaps I'll keep it as a souvenir."
Ophelia stood up and at the same time, Mikael and her lunged at each other. Ophelia used her magic to cause Mikael to drop to his knees, "Phasmatos Infero Eseri Gratas, Disasustos Vom, Mas Pro Je Ta Sue Te. Victamas Veras," She chanted and thunder rumbled and the wind picked up as Mikael screamed out in pain, "Phasmatos Tribum, Niha Sue Exilum, Disasustos Vom, Mas Pro Je Ta Sue Te. Levam, Mina Sue Te, Disasustos Vom, Mas Pro Je Ta Sue Te. Phasmatos Veras. Fes Matos Tribum, Mas Pro Tes Unum. Victas Ex Melam, Phasmatos Vanem. Mas Pro Je Ta Sue Te."
Blood dripped down Ophelia's nose, but she kept on, gripping the white oak stake in one hand, "Ophelia!" Someone suddenly shouted out as Marcel and Hayley appeared.
Marcel punched Mikael and pushed him away, breaking Ophelia concentration. Mikael, now not affected by Ophelia spell, knocked Marcel to the ground, "Now enough!" Mikael shouted angrily, pointing a broken pipe at Marcel, "This night has been a long parade of fools. I'll enjoy killing every last one of you. Starting with the tribrid abomination that believes she has the means to execute me without white oak."
Klaus awoke with a gasp, and Cami bravely stood on her feet, standing behind Ophelia. Suddenly, Hayley arrived and threw a chain around Mikael's neck and yanked on it so hard it knocked him off of his feet, "Yeah, I wouldn't bet on it," She commented, referring to the part where he said he would be able to kill Ophelia.
Hayley hit him in the face with the chain, and Ophelia rushed over to Klaus, helping him up, forgetting all about the white oak on the ground. Hayley and Marcel rushed over to Mikael, and they were eventually joined by Davina. They all stood in tableau and smirked at him, knowing that they finally had the upper hand, "It's over, Mikael. You're outnumbered," Klaus told his stepfather, "Are you going to beg for your miserable life?"
Mikael laughed in amusement, "You think having people makes you strong?" He asked Klaus, "It proves how weak you are. Come find me when you don't have fools, women, and children fighting your battles."
Mikael threw a scrap of wood at them and vamp-sped away to heal. Klaus, looking relieved, just sighed, turning to Ophelia, who seemed to be covered in blood.
Meanwhile later, after Cami was given blood by Ophelia and went to check the perimeter, Klaus stood with Ophelia, checking her wounds. She looked pale and weak, "Your nose is still bleeding," Klaus stated, placing his hand on the side of her neck as he examined the blood flowing.
"I used that pain infliction spell again," She informed him quietly, "I'm still part witch, I'll still be affected when I use too much power at once. And the spell? It takes a lot of power. More than what a single witch should have all on their own. I'm surprised I'm not dead."
Klaus sighed, "Well, it's a good thing you're not." He admitted, a small smile on his face.
Ophelia noticed the stab wound in Klaus' chest that hadn't yet healed, just as hers hadn't. She placed her hand over it and Klaus winced, taking her hand in his own as he removed it from his chest.
"You pulled the stake out in the nick of time," Klaus told her gratefully, "A moment longer, and I would have been done for. I also heard that you're the one who disabled the stake in the first place."
"It's the least I could do for not telling you that Kol was alive. It's the reason Mikael got out in the first place," She explained to him, feeling guilty.
Klaus smiled slightly, "You always did have a soft spot for him, didn't you?" He asked her quietly, "No matter how much he scared you at times, you still cared for him."
"Don't I do the same thing with you?" Ophelia commented quietly, smiling softly as she looked up at Klaus.
Klaus smiled back at Ophelia and before he could say anything more, Hayley and Marcel entered the warehouse alongside Cami to join them, "We checked the perimeter, and he's definitely gone." Hayley informed the two.
Klaus sighed out, "I appreciate your assistance."
"Well, hey!" Marcel smiled, "You die, I die. Just call me selfish."
"Yeah, you die, a lot of people die," Hayley corrected him, "But Klaus? We have another problem..."
Ophelia frowned in concern, wondering what Hayley was about to say.

Adventurer Book II - Dawn of an Empire Short story prequel- The Lurking Lair: An Adventuer Series Short Story Summary for the LitRPG savvy reader: Looking for a LitRPG that is more tabletop traditional role playing game and less MMORPG? This is probably your cup of tea. Long term progression with a heavy slice of life element. Strong mix and inclusion of ancient Greek life, values, and myths. Hence, the world can be a bit more harsh and brutish than modern sensibilities. The system is tangible and knowable beyond the MC's insights. The MC is more of an everyman than someone specifically chosen for the experience. Author's Note: This is my debut novel. Up until this point, the only thing I have written of comparable length has been non-fiction and related to history. I am immensely grateful to all the folks who have given me feedback and helped me improve my writing.
8 133Triquetra: A Multi-Class Isekai or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Accept the End of the Multiverse
Triquetra: An Multi-Class Isekei Adventure I know, I know, you have heard it all before. Yes I was hit by a truck. Yes I ended up in a Fantastical World suspiciously similar to one of my favorite RPG’s. Yes I had access to cheats no one else possessed. Yes it was a world of classes and levels and magic powers. Finally, yes I was an overweight middle-aged loser failing to live up to my potential. Given my eclectic reading habits I should have been better prepared. Unfortunately I was not. Sure I could multi-class with reduced penalties, but my starting class was Scholar! No combat abilities and very limited spellcasting. My HUD interface costs mana to use, and my universal translation seemed to be outsourced to Giggle Translate. I’m supposed to be an OP MC! Not a slice-o- life struggling to survive in the wilderness. Not to mention the Arch-Magus who summoned me, mistimed everything, I arrived 300 years too late, after the fall of the Empire I was supposed to save. The surviving remnants have devolved into Murder Hobos. What’s worse is that the Great Devourer, Ancient Calamity, and Spawn from the Void Beyond Time, Space, and Sanity is now aware of a new world to plunder, a world called Dirt! (Told you this translator sucks) Warning Extra Crunchy Authorial Vebosity! Lots of infodump in the early chapters, but I learn my lesson and it does get better, eventually. I do not own the Cover image, found it on a free image site.
8 151Dark Matter
In the year 2023, scientists investigating the nature of dark matter caused a blackout throughout the entire world of Coranth. With this blackout came the appearance of supernatural and near-magical elemental abilities able to be wielded by all. By harnessing the dark matter in the environment, even ordinary humans now accessed powers that would have been deemed fantasy. These abilities include Wind, Fire, Lightning, Water, and Terra, being the five natural elements of which dark matter is absorbed by the planet itself. Additionally, the two moons orbiting Coranth offer the "Superior" elements of Dark and Light. The year is now 2041, and Dark Matter will follow the story of an adolescent boy named Raiden Sullivan in a dystopian future, 16 years old, eldest of 2, and son to Marcus Sullivan. Raiden is an intelligent young man belonging to a poor family with an absentee mother. He partakes in daily chores to cover living expenses after school and his home life is surrounded by his caring father and younger sister. In truth, this is my take on urban fantasy with slight LitRPG that keeps the "magic" elements somewhat scientific for a more realistic story. In using the dark matter surrounding our universe, humans can now harness elemental abilities as well as absorb dark matter from the beasts/monsters to further strengthen their abilities. For the most part, that'll be the main premise of the power system. Full transparency, this will be the first story I write and also the first story I publish, so please be patient with me. For some context, I'm an avid reader and after 4 or so years of only consuming, I feel that it might be time to try my hand at writing instead. Please feel free to add your opinions and criticism, it would be much appreciated. With that said, I hope you enjoy Dark Matter!
