《My Wife》Chapter 6

Haruhi's eyes were lit with life as she stared at the shop entrance in front of her. She was not particularly fond of anything besides food and studying but this was something she couldn't resist no matter how hard she tried. Standing in front of the shop, she felt as if she was a child again.

"I can really get what I want from here?" Haruhi asked.

"You can. Get whatever you want," Kyoya smiled at seeing her jovial face. "We can hardly call your room a girl's room with just a few piece of furniture here and there. Decorating it with some plushies is necessary."

Haruhi walked in hurriedly, trying not to let her excitement show through but it was pretty obvious that she was enjoying it. She looked around and if it weren't for her inner selflessness, she would've gotten her hands on everything.

"So I can get as much as I want, right?" Haruhi asked once more.

"If it pleases you, I can buy the whole store for you," Kyoya smirked.

"No need," she instantly replied, not wanting to cause ruckus and havoc.

She looked around the shop, eyes shining brightly. Compared to the toy shops she's seen in her local shopping street, this one was ten times as large and their plushies and stuffed animals were all of the highest quality. Not only were they cute but they were super soft. She nudged her cheek against one and wanted to sleep that instant.

"I'll be taking that life-size rabbit and bear over there and the medium-sized plushies lined over there. Add the whole series of prism animal plushies to that list, too," Haruhi pointed towards them. "The panda family of different sizes will also be packaged. That whole shelf of stuffed animals, I'll be taking them!"

Kyoya was amused at this whole new personality of Haruhi's. "You must really like stuffed animals, huh, Haruhi?"

"I love them!" Haruhi turned around, her eyes shining with enthusiasm.

Kyoya widened his eyes at her immediate reply and laughed. Her usual calmness was something that he liked but her childish self was adorable as well. It was a good choice of his to take her here. After all, a girl will always be a girl at heart.

"Is that all?" Kyoya said, taking his card out.

"That's all," Haruhi mumbled, reverting back to her quiet self and seeing that she had literally bought half the store, she looked down, embarrassed. "Sorry that I bought so much."

"It's fine. Just think of this as a payment for seeing such an interesting side of you."

Haruhi looked up, wanting to say something but seeing Kyoya's smirk, she remained silent. "Thank you...for buying all this for me...even though I haven't done a single thing for you."

Kyoya looked at her and turned her way. "You know, Haruhi."

She looked up in curiosity.

"I really hate it when you keep on thanking me," Kyoya furrowed his eyebrows as he brought his face to Haruhi's. "The one that should be thanking the other is me. You may not realize it yourself, but you're bringing in a huge advantage on my part."

Haruhi stared at him, a blank face sitting there.

"The Host Club likes you and because of that, I'll be able to create a business relationship with the rest of them using you as the connection," Kyoya said, a stern look in his eyes as he gave a mocking smile.

"Are those your true words from your heart?" Haruhi questioned him.

His cold mask broke down slightly as her eyes dug deep into him. Something about those orbs controlled a part of him and he felt as if he was susceptible to her every whim.

"Because I don't think that's what you truly want to say," Haruhi said confidently as she let out a smile. "Kyoya-senpai, I like hanging out with you like this. More than hanging out with anyone else in the Host Club."

Silence washed over Kyoya as he brought a hand to his mouth. He could feel his face starting to redden a little at her words but he hid it by looking away.

Haruhi smiled. "Kyoya-senpai, do you like hanging out with me?"

Kyoya looked at her from the corner of his eyes and saw an expectant look. There was no way he could lie to her if she had on such a face.

"I like it," he said.

Haruhi looked up, not believing what she had heard.

Kyoya turned towards her and gave a soft and sweet smile, a smile that she had never seen before. "I like hanging out with you, too, Haruhi."

Hearing his words, Haruhi felt her face flush and she turned away, holding both hands to her face. She wasn't sure why her heart was racing but it was. She could feel the warmth from her cheeks radiating and decided that it was best to calm down first. As she turned back around to face Kyoya, she found the stuffed panda she had chosen in her face.

"This is...?" Haruhi took it.

"You can carry this one home," Kyoya said. "The rest will be mailed there by tonight."

Haruhi grinned. "Thank you, Kyoya-senpai!"

Kyoya furrowed his eyebrows as he turned away from her, desperately trying to conceal his emotions. Why was he always like this around her? First off, why did he even care about how she saw him as? But even so, he smiled and reached out to hold her hand.

"Let's go back," he said.

"Mn!" Haruhi said as she held tightly onto his hand while hugging the panda close to her.

"Ootori-sama, these are the pictures you requested," a man walked into the room.

"Leave them here," Yoshio ordered him and the man complied.

He set the manila envelope down onto Yoshio's desk before him and excused himself, leaving the room swiftly. Yoshio watched the door sound with a clack before taking the envelope and untying the string and opening it. He reached in and took out the photos and smiled softly.

"Isn't that a nice expression you have there, Kyoya?"

They were pictures from the little outing that the two were on today. Yoshio had ordered his people to follow them secretly and take photos and from the results, he was satisfied. Having Haruhi become his fiancee really was the right choice.

"To make him have such a soft expression and smile, as expected of Fujioka Haruhi," he chuckled to himself.

He flipped through the photos and smiled at each one of them. They were mostly individual pictures of Kyoya and pictures of the two together. Needless to say, Yoshio was quite content with how things turned out on their little date. He took the picture of the two of them holding hands while heading home and tucked it inside of his suit. However, one more picture caught his eye and he grinned.

"Now this is a good one," Yoshio commented.

It was a picture of Haruhi smiling brightly while holding onto the stuffed panda. Her brown hair, the way her white lace dress and beige cardigan looked perfect on her, and the obvious ecstatic smile on her face were enough to make anyone looking at it smile. Yoshio went over to a drawer and pulled out a picture frame. He placed Haruhi's photo in there and set it upon his desk. Leaning back in his chair, he smiled.

I want her to call me father-in-law already, he blushed, thinking about it.

Ootori Yoshio had a soft side for Haruhi ever since he laid eyes on her and seeing the way Kyoya looked at her, he immediately knew that Haruhi must be added into the Ootori family no matter what. Honestly, he couldn't wait to meet her.

He chuckled eerily to himself and to his managers who were waiting outside, they found it scary to see their President laughing.

He must be thinking about a new way to get rid of someone, they all thought.

In contrast, a bubbly pink atmosphere with flowers surrounded Yoshio as he thought about what it would feel like once Haruhi called him father-in-law. Yuzuru didn't know of this marriage yet and just imagining the defeated look on his face made him laugh even more. Having Haruhi marry Kyoya was the right choice.

"We really did buy a lot of stuff, didn't we?" Haruhi said as she looked at the moving furniture, stuffed animals, clothes, and accessories that were still in their boxes but were now being moved about by the many servants of the mansion.

"Not as much as I thought we would," Kyoya remarked.

Haruhi sighed. "Well, I'll go unpack the things by myself. I doubt you'd help me out."

"Just leave the miscellaneous things to the servants," Kyoya furrowed his eyebrows. "There's no need for you to personally unpack them."

"Kyoya-senpai, they're my belongings now so I'll take care of most of them by myself," Haruhi objected. "Since they've already taken the boxes to my room and switched out the furniture, I can do the rest by myself."

Kyoya wanted to object but was interrupted by a rather angry statement.

"I have hands and feet, Kyoya-senpai."

No matter how hard he was to convince her, she wasn't going to be swayed the slightest bit. If there was one characteristic he wasn't particularly fond of, it was her stubbornness. But even that made her cute and he didn't know why.

"Have it your way then," Kyoya went up the stairs to his room. "Don't bother me."

"I definitely won't," Haruhi promised.

Never in her right mind will she ask him for help when she could do it herself. Moreover, even if she did, he'd probably ask for something in return. She owed him enough and she'd rather not ask for any more favors from him.

Haruhi made her way to her room and closed the door behind her. The servants really were efficient. The furniture was already set out and she looked around the room in awe. It was like a completely different room once you switched the furniture. She laid on the bed part of the white cushioned sofa and laid there, looking at the ceiling, the panda in her arms.

"I should take a bath first before unpacking," she noted to herself.

The time currently read eight and having already told the servants that she was going to make her own food as well as the fact that tomorrow was a Sunday, she had all the time in the world. She took a quick bath and stepped out, her bathrobe around her and her hair wrapped up in a towel. She looked around the room at the boxes and noticed that there had to be at least a hundred boxes laid out. How they managed to fit it all into the room, she had no clue.

"Better start unpacking than wasting time," Haruhi bent down and began cutting open the packages.

The clothes packages were already in and outside her room. Just seeing all of it made her head hurt. The walk-in closet already had hangers supplied so all Haruhi had to do was hang them up and organize them. She hung up the dresses on one side of the closet — since it took up a whole two rows — and the shirts and pants on another. As for shoes, there was one whole arched room dedicated to it so she put them there. The accessories she put them in the empty drawers while she put the bags on the shelf adjacent to the shoes.

She went back into the living room and found still many more boxes lying around, which she assumed were the stuffed animals. She looked at the clock, reading forty-five minutes past ten.

"It's already this late?" Haruhi exclaimed.

She furrowed her eyebrows and closed her eyes, deciding whether or not she should stay up late to unpack all this or just do it tomorrow. Coming to a decision, she decided to just do it all this night. She could just sleep in tomorrow, after all.

"Heave-ho!" she said as she set the final life-size stuffed rabbit down next to the TV.

The bathroom was decorated with tiny plushies hanging on the front of the door as well as laying on some shelves. The living room was decorated with many stuffed animals but compared to her bedroom, it was nothing. Her bedroom housed the panda series and many life-size stuffed animals like the bear. She put some on her bed, computer desk, and the work desk outside in the living room. She stood back and wiped the sweat from her brow, admiring her work. Now, this was the kind of room that she liked. She flopped down onto the bed and held the stuffed animal pillow close to her.

"He really is considerate," she mumbled to herself with a smile.

Just a few days ago, she was still thinking that he was a miser and a stingy person but after a few days of knowing him, there was more to him than she had known. He was a cold and stern person on the outside but to those around him that he respected, he was kind-hearted to them — even though he didn't show it directly. She got up and closed the light, tucking herself in. Knowing that they were going to be together from now on, she grinned to herself.

"This isn't going to be all that bad."

"How was your weekend, Haruhi?" Hikaru came up to her and asked.

"It was fine," she replied, taking out her books for the class.

"What a boring answer," Kaoru said. "Don't tell me you just stayed at home all day and studied."

"Hey, what kind of person do you see me as?" Haruhi said, a tick mark appearing.

"A person who stays at home all day and just does the necessary amount of things in life," Hikaru and Kaoru replied bluntly.

Haruhi sighed. "Let me just say that I actually went out and did stuff."

"That Haruhi did?" the two said in shock, lightning flashing behind them in the background.

"What's with that exaggerated reply?"

"Did you really go out and do stuff?" Kaoru asked.

"That's right. The Haruhi we know would never go out and do stuff," Hikaru agreed.

"So tell us," the two wrapped an arm around her. "What kind of stuff did you do?"

Haruhi sighed and knew that she couldn't pry away from them once they were curious. It would be bad if she said who she went with but thinking that it was okay if she just mentioned what she did, it would be fine.

"I went shopping," she mumbled.

Lightning flashed once again as the twins posed dramatically. Haruhi was getting tired of their comic skit and sat down on her chair.

"No way," Hikaru said in shock.

"Our Haruhi actually went shopping," Kaoru said.

"No, the question is, does she even have the money to go shopping!" Hikaru shouted.

"You two are horrible!" Haruhi yelled. "It's true that I'm a commoner but do you guys have to go that far?"

"We're sorry," the two immediately apologized.

"My goodness," Haruhi said, clicking the top of her mechanical pencil. "My friend paid for it all so don't get the wrong idea."

"Who's this friend of yours?" Hikaru said, now curious.

Haruhi looked at him before looking away. "None of your business."

"Could it be that Arai guy?" Kaoru asked on the behalf of his brother, fully aware of the rising jealousy of his brother that Haruhi was oblivious to.

"Why would you assume it's a guy?"

"Because it sounded like you were referring to a male friend," Hikaru answered. "So, Haruhi. Tell us. Who exactly is this so-called 'friend'?"

"I invoke my right to be silent," Haruhi turned away from him.

Hikaru was now boiling and Kaoru desperately tried calming his older brother down by holding him back. Hikaru just wanted to take that ungrateful face that Haruhi had on and turn it his way. He hated how secretive she always was and how every time he wanted to know something, he had to go to tiresome lengths to get the answer.

"Fine, have it your way," Hikaru sat down.

For the remainder of the class, the three remained silent. Haruhi and Kaoru, as always, being the diligent students they were, paid attention to the teacher. As for Hikaru, he glanced at Haruhi from time to time. Something was up and his gut instinct was telling him so. He was still wary of what happened the other day and so he decided to observe her.

The three went to their classes as always and everything seemed like usual. Hikaru was beginning to question his instinct but he reminded himself that the day wasn't over yet. He could still get his answers at the Host Club.

"Well, students, aren't you guys lucky?" the teacher smiled. "There won't be homework today so have a nice day."

"Yes!" everyone shouted.

"Finally no homework from this class," Hikaru leaned back in his chair.

"Which leaves us only three homework for the day," Kaoru grinned.

"Let's go to the Host Club, Haruhi," Hikaru said. "Apparently today's theme is going to be a butler theme."

"The ladies will definitely go wild for this one," Kaoru added.

Haruhi sighed. It was going to be another exhausting and tiring day at the Club for her. Meanwhile, Hikaru's eyes were gleaming at Haruhi, as if he was looking at his prey. He was going to get his answer by the end of the day and he knew it.

"Haruhi-kun really looks good in anything," the guests squealed.

"Having one side of his hair slicked back is just too much," another added.

The guests continued fawning over Haruhi's butler appearance while Haruhi just smiled back, complimenting them on how cute they were to be fawning over such a little thing. She really was a natural.

"Haru-chan's really popular," Honey said.

"Ah," Mori agreed.

"One can only imagine what it would be like if she were to revert back to a girl," Kaoru grinned, eating a banana.

"Boss, if you don't hurry up with your act, Haruhi is going to take that King's seat," Hikaru added playfully, throwing his banana peel aside.

"I cannot allow that to happen!" Tamaki declared before whimpering in the corner. "But if she turns into a girl, boys will be after her. But then again if she continues to remain a boy, girls will go after her and one day, she'll steal my seat. Mother! What should I do?!"

"Who knows?" Kyoya calmly replied.

"Tamaki-senpai, you're exaggerating," Haruhi looked at him in dismay.

"Haruhi, what's with those eyes? Why're you looking at father like that?" Tamaki shook her.

Haruhi averted her gaze as she plastered on a fake smile. She thought that she had grown tolerant of his behavior but as of right now, she knew she didn't. He was annoying and if he remained quiet, then maybe she'd come to respect him.

"Please let go," Haruhi said, walking away from him. "I have to take this tray of tea to the guests."

"Wait, Haruhi!" Tamaki yelled as he ran towards Haruhi.

But, as luck would have it, Tamaki slipped on the two banana peels and began hurdling towards Haruhi. Haruhi, who noticed at the last minute, was beyond petrified. Not because of Tamaki who was hurdling towards her but rather the effect it would have on the tea tray. If she dropped it, no doubt that Kyoya would add more to her debt, regardless of the two's relationship.

"Haruhi!" Hikaru yelled.

Mori came rushing over but someone else was faster. Tamaki slammed into her and the tea tray went flying up into the air. Haruhi shut her eyes and waited for the impact of the ground but instead, she felt an arm wrap tightly around her. She looked up and was now face to face with Kyoya.

"You okay?" he asked hurriedly, his eyebrows furrowed in anxiety.

"Y-Yeah. I'm fine," Haruhi absently replied.

Mori had caught the tea tray and nothing was broken, much to her relief. Kyoya steadied Haruhi on the ground and she thanked him. The two glared annoyingly at Tamaki who was now stuttering in fear.

"S-Sorry, Kyoya. Haruhi," he apologized.

Kyoya sighed and smiled his dark smile at him as he shifted his glasses. "Maybe we should ban you from the club a week or two. How does that sound, Tamaki?"
