《Dark Roses #Wattys2019》Chapter 4

The rest of the day went by pretty quickly. Tia winded up being in my english class, while Jackson winded up being in my favorite class of all, culinary arts. It also happened to be the last class of the day.
I think I'll do just fine in this school, however, now knowing that I live in the house of a dead girl creeps me out.
"It's not like she died in the house," Danny stated focusing on the road. School ended not too long ago, and we were driving back to our house now after grabbing a bite to eat. Danny offered to pay for my food, but I refused to let him.
"But I'm still living in a house that belonged to a dead girl. Do you not watch ghost shows? They always come back to the house they last lived in," I spoke looking out the window. The mountains that stretched before me looked absolutely beautiful.
"Um I thought that only happened if they died in the house?" Danny laughed looking at me and then back at the road.
"How do we know she didn't? I mean I did some research on my phone and it said she was poisoned days before she got stabbed, and her heart cut out of her chest. The killer could have snuck in the house....and....poisoned her...oh my gosh. That means there's probably a secret passage way to get into my house. If you look at the report the mother stated how she always checks to make sure the windows and doors are locked at night, even though it was a very safe neighborhood.."
"You're saying 'oh my gosh' to there possibly being an imaginary secret passageway into your house? Dude come on the real 'oh my gosh' is what Blaire did to her," Danny spoke as we arrived infront of our houses, and parked. I looked at him as he began to unfasten his seatbelt.
"Don't say Blaire. No one knows if it was him or not, people probably blamed him because he's an easy target. I mean, there wasn't even enough evidence to prove him guilty. So, that says something itself...right?" I stated.
Danny laughed.
"Rose are you serious? It was your first day at school, your first time seeing him, and you're trying to defend him? Did you not hear what Hanna said?" He began to get out of the car. I unfastened my seatbelt, grabbed my bookbag, and got out as well.

"I'm not defending anyone, I'm just stating the facts," I spoke closing the car door. Danny walked around, and then stood infront of me.
He sighed.
"I dont know, all I know is as long as I don't associate myself with him, I'll be good. You should do the same...," He spoke clutching onto his bookbag. I really had nothing to say back.
I feel like Blaire is the victim here though, and I feel bad for him. I know I just heard of all of this for the first time today, but something just doesn't feel right.
"..bye Rose. I'll maybe come by later tonight with my parents, I heard your mom is cooking dinner," He continued beginning to walk towards his front door.
"Bye," I responded back with a half smile. When I finally got inside of my house I went straight to the kitchen to wash my hands, and grab something to drink. After that, I went upstairs, changed into my bed clothes, and started to work on homework while laying in my bed. I must have fallen asleep though because when I wokeup to the doorbell ringing, it was 6:48pm and my parents were finally home.
I didn't hear anyone getting the door, and I know I'm not supposed to answer the door, but I rubbed my eyes and went to go open it anyways.
If anything, it's probably more people coming to introduce themselves to our family.
When I finally reached downstairs, I looked out the front window to see who it was.
It was an older woman with blonde hair. She at least had to be in her 60's.
She seemed to have been distracted by the multiple different types of flowers my mom planted in our front yard yesterday. My mom loves flowers, and her favorite flowers are roses.
That's why she named me after them.
I wasn't in the most appropriate clothing, but I opened the door anyways.
"Oh hi" the woman smiled at me, she seemed uneasy about something.
"Hello, how may I help you?" I responded nicely.
"I'm your neighbor, from across the street. I'm sorry about such a late greeting, I've been.....ill," she stated holding her hand out for a handshake. Why would I want to shake her hand if she just told me she's been ill? Yes there's multiple illnesses out there in the world, she could have had any, but still.

"Rose, what did we tell you about opening the door?" My mom stated coming down the stairs with a bit of an attitude. I don't know why my parents are so overprotective, but they are. I looked at my mom beginning to say sorry as she began to stand next to me, but then the older women spoke.
"Hello, I'm guessing you're the mother of this household. I used to be the same way towards my children before they moved out. The world is just so dangerous and evil," the older woman smiled. My mom looked at me and then at her.
She looked confused.
"Oh, I'm sorry, I'm your neighbor from across the street. I haven't came to introduce myself until now because I've been ill," she continued.
The expression on my mom's face changed into a welcoming one, "oh hi, I'm Cara, my husband isn't home right now he actually went out to buy some groceries for dinner tonight, but, this is our daughter Rose," she smiled placing a hand on my back.
The older women's facial expression began to change, the "uneasiness" type of vibe began to stem from her again.
"Rose.." She spoke as if she recognized the name. She then snapped out of it and then began to rush her sentences as if she wanted to leave.
"How very nice, I guess I should go now, it would have been a pleasure to meet your husband," she spoke beginning to turn around. She didn't even give us her name.
"How about you stay for dinner? I'm making blueberry pie for dessert," My mom said in a "I know you want some" type of tone.
The old woman stopped walking, and turned around; a smile then slowly began to appear on her face.
"Thank you for such a kind offering, blueberry pie is my favorite, but I'm still not in the best health, I don't want to risk getting anyone else sick. I'll definitely come back over another time."
I wiped the hand she shook against my bed shirt.
When we saw the lady return back to the house across the street, we closed our door as well.
"That was weird," I spoke starting to go upstairs.
"She's older, be nice Rose"
When my dad came home with the groceries, my mom cooked a huge delicious dinner, and invited Danny and his family over to enjoy it with us. Everything went good and everyone kept on asking me about how my day went, I failed to mention how I just found out we live in Allison's old house.
I wonder if my parents know, I know Danny's family definitely does.
We ended the night with my mom's famous blueberry pie, and when everyone left, I freshened up for bed, and got on oovoo with my friends from back home.
"I told you today would go good!" My friend Stacey exclaimed. I rolled my eyes, and laughed.
"True, I can't believe that weird kid goes to your school though, I think I heard about him on the news," My friend Sara pitched in.
"He isn't weird, probably just..different. I feel bad for him," I stated laying on my back on my bed. A picture of his piercing blue eyes appeared in my head as I closed my eyes.
We continued on talking about other stuff for about another half an hour, and eventually said our goodbyes. When I closed my laptop, I put it on the floor, undid my bed, and lit a cinnamon scented candle. Before I was about to get in my bed however, I realized my blinds weren't closed all the way.
I walked over to them and before I closed them, I stared at the creepy dark house that laid in front of me.
One of the lights in that house were on upstairs across from me, and when I looked at it, it suddenly shut off.
The way the old woman said my name as if she recognized it haunted me, but I shrugged it off, closed my blinds,
and went to bed.

Until You Do It Right
The world ended on December thirty-first of the year two thousand and twenty, precisely at the stroke of midnight. The human race began to be systematically exterminated by the spawn of the System. We were given a chance to defeat them, to take back our place at the top of the food chain. We failed. The first to perish were those who bravely rebelled. The soldiers. The defenders. One by one, they fell. In their final moments, they begged for aid. Nobody replied. The next to succumb were those who feebly cowered. The deniers. The leeches. Together, they fell. In their final moments, they cried out into the darkness. Countless voices replied in kind. The last to decline were those who shamelessly ran. The deserters. The cowardly. Alone, they fell. In their final moments, they whimpered quietly. There was nobody left to answer. The final human to die was a survivor. A runner. As he died, he begged for salvation. His prayers were answered. He was offered a chance to save himself, along with all of humanity, and he took it. This is his story. “I sat in the dark and thought: There’s no big apocalypse. Just an endless procession of little ones.”― Neil Gaiman, Signal to Noise. I am absolutely new to writing and will take any and all constructive criticism. Please give feedback, it is greatly appreciated. I will update the tags as they change, and I hope that you enjoy this little story I'm writing! Quick warning: Seamus is intentionally a flawed character, and this story is going to explore those flaws and perhaps even change a few of them. I do not agree with all of his actions, but it is what it is.
