I took Mr. Wright's advice, and went home to sleep. When I woke up, I looked over at the clock and saw the time. Trinity should just be getting home. I had to call her. I know she's mad at me, but I need her. She's my sister and my life isn't complete without her.

"Hello?"

"Trinity! Thank god you answered. Listen I know you're mad at me right now, but I can't live without my best friend."

"Me either. I'm sorry that I blew up the either night."

"It's totally fine. It's something I needed to hear. I just had no idea you were so strongly on team Bill."

"I'm not. I mean it may sound crazy, but I was jealous."

"Umm if you were jealous, you might not wanna be marrying Nikko."

"No! Not of you and Bill. Just you. You've always been social enough to talk to guys and have them fall all over you. I'm not like that. I'm so shy and it's really hard to talk to people. I got mad because you seemed to take that for granite when it took forever for me to actually tell Nikko I liked him."

"Are you kidding? You're so social!"

"No I'm not."

"Yes you are. Back in middle school, who would always go to the beach? You. Who doesn't go to the beach? Me. Because I hate people. You had a whole group of friends. Who went to the San Diego fair with all of her friends? You. No matter how weird they may be, you talked to every single one of them. Just because you take a while to open up doesn't mean that you're not social. I'm sure you do a whole bunch more, but that's just what comes to mind. I'm so sorry if I ever made you feel that way."

"Thanks, Olivia. I love you."

"I love you too!"

"So now that that's over, we have a problem."

"Oh what now?"

"Bill is so sad. I think he's in love with you."

"Seriously?"

"Yeah. I didn't tell him who the other man is, but why were you going to lunch with Mr. Wright and his girlfriend?"

"He invited me. He said I looked sad and wanted to cheer me up."

"And is she awful?"

"She's actually really nice."

"But you still wanna steal her boyfriend?"

"Yes. No. I don't know."

"Well you better figure it out. Something tells me they're only gonna get more serious."

"I know. I really feel bad about Bill. He's so sweet and nice. I didn't mean to hurt him."

"I know you didn't. He knows you didn't either. It happened though, so just give him time."

"Okay. Thanks, Tri."

"No problem. So Saturday I was thinking of going cake tasting. I know you don't like cake, but I was hoping you'd wanna come with me. Nikko has to work so."

"I would, but I actually have plans."

"Already another guy? Geez you move on fast!"

"No! It's not another guy. Lily wanted to have a girls' day. She doesn't really have many friends and Mr. Wright has a business trip to go on, so we were just gonna hang out. If you wanna come along, you're more than welcome to."

"Eh. I'll pass. That just drips of awkwardness."

"Thanks, Trip. I'll tell you how it goes. I'll see you at work tomorrow."

"See you tomorrow."

I went to sleep, thinking I could sleep through the night now that Trinity and I made up, but I couldn't. I feel so horrible about Bill. Was he really in love with me? I hope he's not that broken up, but I really think he is. I could try talking to him, but that might make it worse. I could always ask Trinity, but she might be partial and side with me like a best friend does. Fuck it. I decided to call him. It's only 10 O'Clock. He should be up.

I saw Olivia today and I definitely wasn't ready. I thought I was, but seeing her made me want to cry. Trinity tried to be nice and ate lunch with me. She tried to console me and assure me that I could get any girl I wanted. The only girl I want, doesn't want me. She's preoccupied with this other guy. I don't know what this guy looks like, what he's like, or what he does, but he must be pretty great to have Olivia's heart. It was around ten when I heard my phone ringing. It was Olivia. I didn't know if I should answer, but I figured why not.

"Hello?"

"Bill! I'm surprised you answered."

"Well I'm surprised you called."

"So am I honestly. I just wanted to make sure you're okay."

"Why wouldn't I be?"

"Well with our break up, I didn't want you to be sad. I really want to be friends."

"Olivia, I would love that, but I can't. I don't think I could handle being around you all the time and us not be together. I'm sorry, but I just need time I get over you, and frankly it could take a long time. You're a great girl, Olivia."

"No I'm not. If I was so great, I wouldn't have led you on. I'm so sorry, Bill. I truly never meant to hurt you. I thought I was ready for a relationship and I wasn't. It wasn't fair to you and I'm so sorry."

"It's okay. I knew from the start that you wanted to go slow and I just got so caught up. Whoever this guy is, he's one lucky man. He better know what he has, because if not, that's a real shame. You really are a great girl, Olivia."

"Bill..."

By then we were both crying. While trying to stop, I was sniffling. Finally, I tried to speak.

"Bill, you are the greatest guy ever. You are so sweet. No one has ever cared about me as much as you have. You're so funny, and caring. You just really are great."

"Just not great enough obviously."

"Bill..."

"I'm sorry, Olivia. That wasn't fair of me. I appreciate what you said, but it kinda feels like pity."

"Well it's not. It's the truth."

"Thank you. I'm gonna head to bed. Goodnight and goodbye, Olivia."

"Goodnight, Bill."

I don't know why, but I kept crying. Around midnight, I was all cried out and went to sleep. Why does my luck have to suck?
