《Call Of Death》Chapter 7 : Who Is Who

Chief Simon looked at the corpse while the paramedics are doing their job. She looked around and tried to figure out where could the shooter has been hiding but everything seems so open, making it very hard to find a blind spot. Detective Lee, Officer Chase and Officer Chad went towards her.
"Good evening, Chief Simon." Officer Chad and Officer Chase politely greeted.
"Oh? Officer Devius Wayne Chad, Officer Isaac Chase, long time no see. I want say I'm happy to see you but, it wouldn't be accurate at this situation, would it?" She joked, both officers just smiled. She then turned to Detective Lee who's still busy looking around. "Did you find anything?" She asked him.
He sighed and shook his head. "The place is an open area, the crime scene is also very open. It's not easy to find a spot you can hide at. There are too many people making it hard for anyone to make such risky move." He explained.
"But someone still dared to take that risk, that's why there's a corpse." Chief Simon said.
"You're right." Cameron nodded.
"Then? What do you think?" Chief Simon asked again.
"The culprit my have planned the murder long before. He must have known that the victim will be present here tonight and he must also have followed her here. The culprit probably knows the victim's routine." Detective Lee speculated.
"You're right. This can't be a sudden plan, the culprit must have planned it for a long time." She agreed.
Detective Lee nodded. "But, Chief, is this the reason why you asked me to come? It isn't about drugs, is it? It's because you know someone is gonna die tonight?" He asked.
The Chief nodded and sighed. "Yes."
"Why didn't you tell me in the first place? I could have done something to at least prevent this from happening." Cameron felt annoyed but he doesn't know who he should be annoyed at.
Himself for not being able to do anything and prevent the murder? Or to his superior who didn't say anything about the murder? He really doesn't know. But he knows that there's a reason behind why Chief Simon didn't say anything about it.
"Cameron, I know that you won't be able to focus if I told you that someone will die tonight." She explained.
Detective Lee understood her but he still can't help himself from being annoyed. He just stayed silent and sighed.
"What about you two?" Chief Simon turned to look at the two officers when his junior didn't say anything..
Officer Chase shook his head but Officer Chad spoked. "She talked to me earlier, her name is Niana Penningson but I didn't notice anything odd earlier." He narrated.
Isaac Chase looked like he just realized something. "Oh, yeah. I remember her. She did talk to you." He said to his friend who just nodded.
"I just said that, Chase." Officer Chad said.
"Is there any witness?" Asked Chief Simon.
"There's one girl who found her body, we brought her in for questioning but she looked really shocked so, I'm not sure she could be at help." Detective Lee responded.

"Good. Let's go to the headquarters and get some information from this girl." Chief Simon commanded to which all the three nodded.
But Officer Chad spoke. "She's just a kid and still in shock, please don't make it hard for her." Chief Simom nodded before leaving first.
After checking the scene and securing the place, they all decided to head to the station and talk to the people who are brought in there. Most of the guests are allowed to go home but there are three people who are brought in for questioning because they couldn't and doesn't want to answer any question.
When they arrived, Detective Lee immediately went to question the three individuals. He first went to the girl who found Niana Penningson's body. She was sitting in silence when Detective Lee walked in. Her body is still shivering and her hands are still shaking. She also looked pale. She must have been really shocked to find a dead body lying on the ground.
"Miss, I'm Detective Cameron Caiseus Lee. I'm just going to ask you a few questions, please cooperate with me." He said as he sat down in front of her, trying to act as calm as he could to not alert the girl.
The girl slowly looked up to him. "D-Did that lady really die? I-Is she dead?" She asked the same question as earlier, her voice is shaking.
Detective Lee sighed. "Unfortunately, yes and I need you to answer the question that might help to catch the culprit."
The girl stayed silent, lowered her head down again, just looking at her hands that are still shaking. Cameron knows that she's still a kid and to witness that kind of scene, it must have been really terrifying and it will be hard for her but he has to do his job-and that is to ask questions and catched the person behind the murder.
"You don't need to answer everything, if you feel uncomfortable, just tell me and I'll stop. We can talk another time when you feel comfortable." He explained. Even if he has a duty to fulfill, seeing the girl terrified, he just couldn't do it.
The girl nodded, "I understand, sir. I will t-try to answer."
He then started asking questions. "What is your name?"
"I... I'm Miranda, Miranda Jameswood." She answered.
"How old are you?"
"I-I'm eighteen years old." She bit her lower lip out of nervousness.
Detective Lee took out his notebook and asked, "Can you tell me what exactly happened before and after you found Ms. Niana Penningson's body?"
Everything then begun flashing back in Miranda's memory. She was enjoying the night just like the other guests at the party. Drinking, laughing, dancing and drinking again. Due to so much alcohol in take, she felt the call of nature and walked, wobbling, to find the restroom. That's when she saw a lady lying on the floor. She laughed at first, thinking she was too wasted that she slept on the floor. But when she was about to walk away, she saw the red liquid flowing from her neck and head. She thought she was just drunk and she's seeing things but when she went to check what is happening, she saw that the lady was shot right between her eyebrows and her expression made Miranda scream.

"So, you didn't see who killed her?" Detective Lee asked while writing something on his notebook.
Miranda shook her head. "No, I didn't."
"Okay. That would be all for now, you can go home. Do you have someone with you? Or anyone's gonna pick you up?" Detective Lee faced her.
She shook her head again. "I live alone, sir. Sometimes my friend would visit me but she's busy preparing for her exam, so she wouldn't be there."
"I'll let my colleague bring you home. Take some rest and don't go to parties because you're still a minor, kid. In addition to that, for now just stay home or anywhere safe. I'm not scaring you but we still don't know what the killer's next plan. It's better to be safe always. I'll also ask someone to keep an eye on you, so you'd feel less scared." Detective Lee advised as he stood up and went out of the room.
He just sighed and went to the other room where a man was already seated, looking so frustrated. His brows were almost together because of how much he's frowning. He stood up immediately when he saw the detective walk in.
"Him again?" Cameron shook his head.
"You! How long will you keep me here? This isn't legal! I can sue you for this, you know that!" He angrily said.
Detective Lee looked at him. "You just need to answer some of my questions and then you can leave, sir." He calmly explained.
"Why would I answer any of your stupid questions? The fact that I was at the party doesn't mean that I'm the one who killed that woman!" The guy exclaimed.
"I didn't say that you killed her."
"You!"
"You said you'll embarrassed me after proving yourself innocent, didn't you?"
"Oh! Yes, I will!"
"What's your name?" Detective Lee asked.
"Shawn Gilbert-wait, why are you changing the topic? Let me go home!" He shouted again.
Detective Lee just sat there and opened his notebook. "Tell me what you are doing when the murder happened."
"I won't be telling you anything because I don't have my lawyer here."
"That's fine, sir. Then, you can call your lawyer but you cannot leave without answering my questions."
"You! This is illegal!"
"This is illegal when I'm detaining you without any reason but because you're at the crime scene, you are considered a suspect. If you refuse to answer my questions, you will only rise the suspicion."
"You!"
"So? You have a choice, sir." Detective Lee said.
The man looked furious and annoyed but he gave up in the end. "Well, I was just drinking with my friends and kinda flirting with some girls. I never left my friends and always with them even if I'm flirting, you can ask them if you don't believe me." He simply narrated.
Detective Lee stood up and said, "You can go home. Tsk! I feel bad for the girl who'll marry you." He scanned Shawn Gilbert from head to toe before leaving the room.
"Wait? Did he just left me like that!?" Shawn asked himself, feeling annoyed and confused at the same time.
After the second person, Detective Lee went to question the other. When he entered the room, he was surprised to see a boy sitting on the chair in front of the table. He must be around sixteen to seventeen years old. He didn't see him at the party but maybe because there are too many adults there and he's busy looking around, he didn't notice him. He's playing with his fingers, looking so innocent and confused about what is happening. He seemed to have some kind of mental health problem by how Detective Lee observed him.
He walked towards the boy and sat down at his chair. He breath deeply and opened his notebook before looking at the boy again.
"What is your name, kid?" He asked with the most friendly voice he could.
The boy looked at him with pouty lips and innocent eyes. "Gong Seuk Tae. My name is...Gong Seuk Tae." He answered.
"You're korean?" He wrinkled his brows, the kid nodded. "What is your english name?"
The kid looked at him straight in the eye and said, "Vlad." He then smiled. "...but I like my korean name more."
Detective Lee smiled too. "Okay then. Seuk Tae, how old are you?"
"I...just turned seventeen today." Seuk Tae answered.
"Hmm. Why are you at the bar? Are you with someone?" Detective Lee asked again to which the boy shook his head.
Seuk Tae looked at Detective Lee while pouting and then he spoke, "I went there because... I was following someone."
"You were following someone?" The detective furrowed his eyebrows.
Seuk Tae nodded. "He... was wearing a black coat and he run really fast."
"Do you know who that person is?" Detective Lee eagerly asked, thinking that it could be the suspect.
"No, but I think...I saw his face or maybe it was masked because there's no way he looked like that." Seuk Tae answered, still playing with his fingers.
"Can you describe how he looked?"
"He...was smiling and his tongue is longer than... a normal person." He explained in a pouty lips.
"What do you mean?"
"I... just don't know if he was wearing a mask or if that's his real face. All I know is that, he looked really terrifying." The kid responded in a nervous voice.
Detective Lee wrote everything in his notebook before telling the kid that he could go home. He just sent two of his colleagues to accompany him to his home since he said he doesn't have anyone with him. There is no much detail, but through Seuk Tae's statement, they might find some clue about who the culprit is.
