《Call Of Death》Chapter 8 : Death At The Forest

After talking to Gong Seuk Tae, Detective Lee immediately went to Chief Simon and told her what he found out from the kid. There was a meeting held after that and Detective Lee narrated everything. Everyone listened and left confused by the given description of the possible culprit behind the murder.
"So, the boy followed the culprit to the party? Does that mean, the culprit didn't come to party by car? He walked?" Officer Chad asked furrowing his eyebrows.
Detective Lee nodded. "According to what he told me, yes."
"But, it doesn't add up, senior." Officer Chase spoke.
"Yeah. Isaac is right. The boy said he followed the culprit to the party but I didn't see him at all when I was wandering around. Also, everyone at the party should be at least eighteen, he wouldn't be allowed inside at his age." Officer Chad explained in a long litany.
Isaac Chase nodded in agreement. "That's right, I didn't see him inside too."
"So, are you suggesting that he's lying?"Detective Lee questioned.
Both officers shook their heads. "No, there's a possibility that he really followed the culprit but he wasn't inside." Officer Devius Chad added.
Chief Simon nodded. "That is possible. Maybe the kid saw him on his way to the bar and followed him there but since he can't go in, he wasn't able to fully do it."
"Then, if that boy saw his face or mask or whatever and the culprit finds out, Gong Seuk Tae's welfare will be in danger, senior." Officer Chase worriedly said, Cameron nodded.
"We need to make sure that Gong Seuk Tae is safe no matter what. He can be a star witness once the culprit is caught." Chief Simon suggested to which everyone agreed.
"Did I miss something?" Detective Kairo Sedis Parker entered the meeting hall, panting as if he had run a mile.
"Uh, yeah. We're almost done, Detective Parker." Chief Simon responded.
"Oh."
"But, we have a star witness who may or may not have seen the culprit's face." She added.
"Really? Who?"
"It's a kid named Gong Seuk Tae."
"Woah. He's korean just like Cameron, Chief?"
"Yes. He said he saw the culprit and followed him to the bar but he wasn't sure if he his face or if it's a mask." She explained.
Detective Parker nodded. "Then, we must take care of him. Chief Simon, I'll assign two of our colleagues to look after the witness." Detective Kairo Parker suggested, his superior nodded.
"That's good. I'll start with the other works now. We must start investigation as soon as possible." Chief Simon said before leaving for her office.
After the meeting, everyone went to their respected places and Officer Chad and Officer Chase decided to go their way too. But before they could even exit the detective's headquarters, a man covered in blood came rushing towards them.

"HELP ME! HELP ME! PLEASE! HELP!" He was trembling all over and his bloody hands are so cold and shaking.
"Calm down, sir. Tell us what's happening." Officer Chase held the man's shoulder to calm him down.
He's crying and his voice was almost unheard. "P-Please help me. S-Someone killed my wife." He burst out in tears.
That's when Detective Lee notice the ruckus in front of the door. He headed towards the direction and saw the two officers talking to the man covered in blood. He hurriedly approached them.
"What happened here?" He confusedly asked them.
Officer Chad stood up and said, "Someone is killed near the area, I'm gonna go check it—"
"No, it's dangerous. I'm going, you stay here with them." He cut Officer Chad's sentence and begun walking but the officer chased him and held his arms. "What are you doing? Get off me and I told you to stay there."
"I don't want to. You said it's dangerous, then I can't let you go alone, can I, senior?"
"Don't be stubborn. This is our area of responsibility, you stay out of it."
"I'm not being stubborn, Detective Lee. I just don't want my conscience to chase me if something happens to you?" Officer Chad cringed.
"I can handle myself, I'm not a kid that needed company." He insisted.
Officer Chad crossed his arms. "Then, I am not a kid too that needed someone to tell me what or what is not to do."
Detective Lee sighed and looked back at the man but Officer Chase already took him inside the headquarters. He took a deep breath and put his hands inside his pocket before facing Officer Chad again.
"Do you know where the crime scene is? Also, whether you like it or not, I'll tag along and you can do nothing to stop me." Devius asked.
"Why are you so stubborn? I already told you it's my area of responsibility." Detective Lee repeated.
Officer Chad smirked. "Of course, I heard you, follow me, senior." He gestured and begun walking away.
'This thing is a real pain in the ass.'
Detective Lee was left with no choice but to follow him. It's not so far from the headquarters but it's not near either. They walked inside the woods to where the man said earlier. As they got deeper and deeper, the surrounding gets darker and darker. Officer Chad turned the flashlight of his phone on and pointed it to the surroundings. Trying to look for something helpful or something that can be an evidence.
"Why are they in the woods at this time? Are they not afraid of wild animals? Bears? Lions? Tigers?" Confused, Officer Chad asked.
"Will you stay quiet?" He glared at him.

"What? I was just curious of what they we're doing at this time in the middle of the woods."
"They're doing camping, look." Detective Lee points at the still lit bonfire.
Officer Chad turned to look at Detective Lee and they both run towards the campsite. There's nothing unusual at the scene. They didn't see anything except for the tent, the campfire, some empty cans, barbeque sticks and a blanket.
"There's nothing here, let's go look somewhere else, Detective Lee." Officer Chad said after searching the campsite for about twenty minutes.
"Tss. Just go and stop talking. You're so noisy." Cameron complained.
"Hmp. You're so grumpy, senior." Devius pouted, Cameron sighed and shook his head. "But, what do you say about the kid's statement?"
"What?"
"If he really saw the culprit and he's scary, why would he follow him?"
"Kid's are curious, Officer Chad."
"You're right. Then, what do you think is the killer's purpose?" Devius asked qgain.
"What do you mean? His purpose is to kill his victim, what else?"
"You're right, his purpose is to kill his victim but why would he slit her neck if he could just shot her in the head?" Cameron was stopped by the words of Devius.
"Then, what do you think?" He faced him.
Devius sighed. "I don't know. I just felt like there's something more behind. It's not just a simple murder case." He said.
Detective Lee nodded and was about to go to another direction to check when he noticed a trail of blood leading deeper into the woods. It looks like someone dragged the body from the campsite to somewhere into the woods.
"Hey, you," he called out to Officer Chad.
Officer Chad faced him. "What?"
Detective Lee pointed the blood. "Look."
"Is that blood?"
"Tss. Follow me."
They both nodded and started walking, following the trail of blood. When they finally got deeper inside the woods, they stopped on their tracks. Officer Chad aimed his phone's light to a pile of leave while Detective Lee prepared his gun. Two men walked towards the pile of leaves and when they begun shoving the leaves, a gruesome scene was revealed.
"What the fuck!?" Officer Chad covered his mouth in surprise.
"Don't let your guard down, the culprit might still be around." Detective Lee warned him.
"Oh. Sorry."
"Tch."
Devius Chad took out his gun and prepared himself for any danger while Detective Lee examine the body. The girl was about twenty-six to thirty years old. She's wearing a tight jeans, thick sweater and a black rubber shoes. Her face and neck are covered with blood. He tried to feel her pulse but it was gone, she's not even breathing. She's dead. Detective Cameron Lee looked at her body from head to toe even if he can't clearly see it because the only source of light is Officer Chad's cellphone. Detective Lee leaned forward but he can't clearly see her neck because of the dark.
"Hey, aim the light at her neck for me." He commanded Officer Chad.
Officer Chad rolled his eyes. "Tch! Can't you talk nicer?"
"Just do as I say." He insisted, leaving Officer Chad with no choice.
He aimed his cellphone's flashlight to the body. There was a stab wound at her throat, probably the cause of her death. It's almost identical to the one of the victim at the bar. Aside from that, there's a crack on her forehead, probably caused by a rock or something hard being smashed on her head. But what caught Detective Lee's attention was the thing on her hand. He tried to search for his handkerchief but he couldn't find it and realized, he used it earlier.
"Light her hand." He commanded again.
"I'm not your maid, will you stop giving me orders?"
"Just light her hands and stop being noisy!" He whisper-shouted.
Officer Chad rolled his eyes and did as he was ordered. He wrinkled his eyebrows when he saw what was on her hand.
"Was that her phone?" Officer Chad asked and slowly picked up the thing she was holding using a tissue he got from the party earlier.
Detective Lee stood up and said, "I'm going to call the forensic pathologists here, just be alert, you can't let your guard down." He said then begun dialing something on his phone.
After a couple of minutes, the forensic pathologists finally arrived and begun dealing with the body. Officer Chad called Officer Chase to check on the victim's husband.
"How's it going there?" Officer Chad asked.
He heard Officer Chase sighed on the other side of the phone. "He calmed down already but he can't talk properly. What about there?"
"We found the body and the forensics are here. We'll be back soon, look after the husband first."
"Sure, no problem. You can count on me on that."
"Thank you, Isaac."
"No problem." Then he ended the call.
Officer Chad went near the examiners. The body is already put inside the body bag and some detectives are just searching the area for some evidence or things that can help solve the case or point to the identity of the culprit.
"Officer Chad," Chief Simon walked towards him, he bowed in respect.
"Chief Simon, can I do something for you?" He politely asked.
Chief Simon smiled and gestured him to follow her. He hesitated at first but still followed Chief Simon into her car where they drove back to the headquarters.

Iron and Wood - A Tale Of Empire and Clans
For centuries, the Midlands had been split into fragments. A once glorious, united Empire has become a shadow of its former self. Unity has not returned, and not for the lack of trying. The greatest of these successor states were the Li Dynasty to the south, the rulers of old, and the Emerald Empire to the North, with its vibrant vitality. Unity is the end goal, and both will sacrifice anything to attain this elusive dream. For unity would surely solve the conflict that had long plagued this once prosperous continent. The Ironwood Clan was a prime player. Some would consider them the ones holding the reigns to the horse named 'Unification'. Iron and wood were the backbones of civilization; similarly, the Ironwoods were the backbones of the Northern Empire, and by extension, the people of the Midlands. Their methods, as questionable as they might be, had strengthened the North. Yet, were they enough? In the midst of it all, a young Ironwood who had lost his path must once again find his way. For the sake of his own wellbeing; for the sake of his clan; and for the sake of the Empire and its subjects. However, is he willing to sacrifice for the good of all? Is he willing to condemn some for the sake of others? Is he willing to make the right, albeit harsh, decisions? Only the heavens would know. Disclaimer: This is a work of fiction.
