《The Monster Inside ➺ Scott. M》Chapter 26

Astrid walked inside her mansion, exhausted. She went upstairs, took a quick shower and went to bed.
The next day, she was awoken by her cell phone ringing.
"What is it Scott?" She asked with closed eyes as she picked up the phone.
"Sorry for waking you." He said. "Can you meet me at Allison's?"
"Sure" she answered and ended the call.
------------
"There was something almost ritualistic about it" Astrid heard Allison's father say as she walked inside their apartment. "It was like it was looking right into his soul."
"What was?" Astrid asked.
"Those creatures we saw last night." Isaac told Astrid. "They did the same thing to me."
Astrid walked inside Chris' office and sat on an empty chair.
"That's what they did to everyone" Allison said.
"Not everyone" Scott replied. "They only came after the werewolves."
"More like the supernatural. They came after Lydia as well" Astrid said.
"Yes. They come after anyone with a connection to the supernatural." Chris told the teenagers. "Astrid, how old are You?"
"I'm not really sure" she answered. "Over 1000, why?"
"Have you not seen them before? Or even heard of them?" Allison asked.
"Nope" Astrid replied. "Sorry"
"Okay. So... who was the guy they went after in Japan?" Isaac asked.
"Kumicho. A yakuza boss" Chris said. "It was my first gun deal. I was only 18 and it was supposed to be a simple exchange. Except Gerard left out the minor detail of the buyers being yakuza. He wanted to see if I could adapt in the moment. Testing my ability to improvise."
"Or your ability to survive" Allison said.
"Most likely both" Astrid added.
"The moment the sun went down" Chris began speaking again. "It was like they just materialized out of the shadows. They had swords, not curved like katanas but straight, black steel. Like ninjatos."
"What did they want?" Scott asked.
"To Get to the kumicho... They cut down every living thing in their way."
"Did they mark him like they marked us?" Isaac asked, touching the mark behind his ear.
"Not exactly" Chris answered. "His eyes became white and he grew massive fangs. They killed him."
"What was he?" Astrid asked, curious.
"I don't know. But there might be someone who does. There were a few others who survived that night. One of them was a man named Katashi... They called him silverfinger because of an unusual prosthetic. And it looked like he was ready to take them all on himself. I've known for a while Katashi was in the country. I spent yesterday tracking him down."
"Didn't look like he wanted to be found" Isaac said, pointing to a deep cut on Chris' forehead.
"Not particularly, no."
"You think he knows what they are? Or what they want?" Scott questioned.
"Maybe" Chris said.
"What if he doesn't want to talk?" Allison asked.
"What if he doesn't even remember You?" Isaac added.
"He'll remember this." Chris said, grabbing a box which was on his desk and opening it. Inside was a black broken mask. Identical to the ones that the creatures were wearing. "I know I didn't kill it. I'm not sure you can. But I slowed it down long enough for us to get out of there."
"What was behind the mask?" Scott asked, holding a piece of it.
"Darkness... absolute darkness."
"Hmm... interesting." Astrid said, not scared at all.
--------------
Astrid arrived at school and sat on a bench. Soon Scott parked in front of her as Aiden and Ethan parked next to him.

"Why are you two always following him? It's weird." Astrid said as she walked towards the three as they were still on their motorbikes. "Will you be doing this all the time?"
"All day" Aiden said.
"All night" Ethan added.
"Jesus" Astrid muttered.
"Is this about being in my pack?" Scott asked.
"This is about you being the target of the demonic ninjas" Ethan said.
"You mean the demonic ninjas that pulled swords out of their chests and completely kicked our asses?" Aiden asked rhetorically.
"Yeah. Those demonic ninjas."
"I don't need anyone to protect me." Scott told them.
"They were looking right at you when the sun came up" Aiden Told Scott.
"And they also disappeared" Scott said. "Argent thinks that they could just come out at night."
"Since this is our fist experience with demonic ninjas, we're thinking we should play it safe" Aiden added.
"All day" Ethan said.
"And all night" Scott said before Aiden could.
The three got off their motorbikes and walked to school with Astrid.
-----------
Astrid, Scott and Stiles walked into the chemistry classroom together as Stiles was talking. "So then she starts talking about phosphors and the key having chemicals on it, right? And so that made me think of the chemistry closet and the fact that someone had to let Barrow in..." Stiles continued talking, walking towards the blackboard. When he looked at it, it was clean.
"What's wrong, Stiles?" Astrid asked when Stiles stopped speaking.
"It's gone... Okay, it doesn't matter though. It doesn't matter. I've still got the key." Stiles said as he jogged towards the chemicals closet, trying to open the door.
"You alright, love?" Astrid asked, slightly concerned.
"I had it... I had it here. I had it here this morning, I swear to God, I had it this morning."
"The key toy were talking about last night?" Scott asked his best friend.
"Yeah, I showed it to You, right? Didn't I show it to You?"
"No, you just told me about it. I never actually saw it."
Stiles walked towards the blackboard, breathing heavily. "I was here a couple of hours ago. And the message left to Barrow spelling Kira's name was right there on the board in my hand writing and I had the key to the chemistry closet."
"You know Stiles, most people would rather not be on the 'suspects' list, you know? Whereas You, you're doing the exact opposite. It might not even be you. You don't remember writing it, right? It might just be someone with similar handwriting."
"Yeah... So um... You unlocked the chemistry closet so Barrow could hide in it from the cops and then you wrote him a message to kill Kira?" Scott asked.
"I know how that sounds..." Stiles said. "But look at this. This is the news report that came out about Barrow when they caught him, Okay? About the shrapnel bomb that he used. See this? See what he did? He put nuts, bolts and screws. And then he hid the bomb and the detonator in a box that he wrapped as a birthday present. What does that sound like to You?"
"Coach? The joke we played on coach." Scott answered.
"That was my idea" Stiles said quietly. "You remember? That was my idea."
"Alright. Stiles, this might just be coincidence." Astrid smiled.
"Yeah? Well, there's too many coincidences." Stiles told the vampire.
"Stiles... I don't think you would try to kill people." Astrid added.

Stiles looked at the blackboard and spoke. "It was here. It was all here."
"Dude, are you feeling Okay? You're looking really tired." Scott said.
"Yeah, I'm fine. I just haven't been sleeping lately..."
"Why don't you go home? Take a sick day or something."
-----------
"Did you tell him?" Aiden asked as the twins, Scott and Astrid walked through the hallways.
"No. He's got enough on his mind right now" Scott answered.
"If they're trying to come for you in a few hours then so do you." Ethan said.
"What if it's not me" Scott said, turning around to look at the twins. Astrid also stopped and turned around. "Okay? What of I'm not the one they want?"
"Who else is there?" Aiden asked.
"Me for example... or Kira" Astrid spoke.
"Yeah, Well, you can protect yourself" Aiden Told her.
"Yes, I can. But Kira sure can't."
----------------
Astrid walked towards the twins as she watched Scott drive away from them. They looked shocked and annoyed when they realised that their motorbikes weren't working.
"You two alright?" She laughed.
"Seriously? We're trying to protect him" Aiden said annoyed.
"He has other friends who can protect him too. Me for example. You don't have to follow him everywhere. It's really... creepy."
"Yeah well... now he's alone because you're here with us." Ethan pointed out.
"He'll be fine." Astrid smiled, turning on her phone to check the time. When she turned it on she realised that someone sent her a voicemail.
"Aren't you going to listen to it?" Aiden asked.
"I am" she said as she clicked on the notification.
"Hey 'trid" Rebekah said on the voicemail. "Just wanted to let you know that we'll be there soon. Not telling you exactly when. Nik wants it to be a surprise. Love you!"
"Who was that?" Aiden asked.
"My sister, Rebekah."Astrid sighed.
------------------
Astrid knocked on Scott's front door, Waiting for him to open it. Kira opened the door, smiling at her and stepped aside to let her in. Astrid walked closer but was pushed away by an invisible barrier.
"I forgot I've never been inside. Can you get Scott for me?" Astrid smiled at Kira.
"Sure" she replied and walked away to find Scott.
A minute later, Scott walked towards her and smiled. "You can come in" he said softly.
"Thank You, darling" she smiled and walked inside.
"So um... are you a werewolf as well? Kira asked.
"Not just a werewolf." Astrid smiled.
"What do you mean?"
"There's the werewolf part" Astrid smiled, showing her yellow eyes. "A witch part" Astrid snapped her fingers and the door behind her slammed shut. "Oh... and" Astrid smiled, showing her fangs and blood red eyes. Kira look at her terrified "the vampire part"
"H-how many of your kind are there?" Kira asked when Astrid turned back to normal.
"You're asking how may tribrids there are?" Astrid asked, raising an eyebrow and Kira nodded. "Just me. But my brothers a hybrid" Astrid smiled. "He's a vampire and a werewolf."
"You must be... v-very powerful"
"The most powerful creatures on earth" Astrid smiled.
"Astrid..." Scott said quietly. "I think you're scaring her."
"Sorry kiddo" Astrid patted Kira's shoulder.
"Okay.. we should get back to preparing for the 'demonic ninjas'." Astrid pointed out.
"Oh yeah." Kira said as Scott went back to closing the windows. "I don't wanna sound pessimistic or anything, but you really think that's going to keep them out?" Kira asked.
"Actually, we have kind of a security system. Things happened a couple of weeks ago, a lot of things, and we had my boss help make a few changes to the house."
"Your boss? So you work for a security company?" Kira asked.
"No, he's a veterinarian" Scott answered.
"You had a vet put in your alarm?"
"Yeah, sort of. But I can't arm it. On my my mom can."
"You're talking about mountain Ash right?" Astrid asked.
"Yeah"
"I can arm it as Well. It doesn't work on me." Astrid smiled.
"Okay." Scott said and showed Astrid where the mountain Ash is.
She took it and made a line using the mountain Ash on the front entrance. "There." She smiled.
She stepped out of the house to show that it doesn't work on her and then stepped back in. "See? Doesn't work on me." She smiled.
"I have to show you guys something" kira said, taking out a book from her backpack.
"Have you ever heard of something called a kitsune?" Kira asked and Scott shook his head.
"I have. I knew you smelt familiar." Astrid smiled.
Kira opened a book and the two sat next to her. She showed them a page with two foxes and lightning around them.
"That looks like what happened to you at the power station" Scott said.
"When a kitsune rubs its tails together it can create fire or lightning." Kira spoke. "It's called foxfire.... I don't have any tails."
"How'd you know what I was thinking?" Scott asked.
"Because kitsune are also psychic" kira said, moving closer to Scott. "I can hear all of your thoughts."
"No she can't." Astrid sighed loudly and Kira moved away from Scott. "But the sun is setting." Astrid pointed out.
"Ah" Scott sighed.
"You scared, foxy?" Astrid asked.
"Not right now" she replied, staring at Scott. "I'm supposed to be back before dinner."
"I don't think you'll make it, kiddo." Astrid said.
---------------
The three walked towards the front door and saw Scott's father.
"What are you doing here?" Scott asked. "And why do you still have a key?"
"Funny you mention keys. Because while I have a key to this house, I'm not exactly sure how you got a key to my office." He said as he opened his laptop, showing a picture of Kira and Scott.
---------------
Argent walked towards Katashi after beating up his men while Isaac was stalling them after selling them a gun.
"All I want to do is talk" Argent told Katashi.
"Taking out my security is not what I would call a good conversation starter" Katashi said, aiming a gun at Argent.
"You don't remember me, do You?" Chris asked. "Allison, take the man's gun"
Allison walked in and took his gun, using a long metal chain.
"Now, can we talk?" Chris asked.
"Guys?" Isaac breathed heavily as Katashi's men brought Isaac to him. "They have a werewolf too."
--------------
"Let me help you out here" the FBI said. "This kinda thing usually begins with something along the lines of, 'it's not what you think' or 'I can explain'."
"Dad, let me help you out. You need to leave." Scott told his father.
"I will. With satisfactory explanation."
"Go get a warrant"
"I don't need a warrant. I'm you're father."
"No, you're a gene donor. I got my hair colour from you and that's all I got. So you're not allowed to play tough dad with me."
"Hey, what a going on?" Melissa asked as she walked inside, looking at the mountain Ash confused.
"Maybe one of you should explain."
"Scott..." Kira panicked when it became darker.
"Who the hell is this?" Scott's dad asked when he saw a figure outside and began walking towards it.
"Dad, no." Scott panicked when his dad left the house. "Dad, wait!" The figure impaled him with a sword.
"Damn it" Astrid said as she sped outside, picking the man up and bringing him back inside.
"Let us in!" Derek shouted as he stood in front of the entrance.
Astrid moved the man to a safe place, next to Melissa and sped towards the front door, moving the mountain Ash a bit to let Derek and the twins inside. They ran in and Astrid closed the entrance again.
Kira walked towards the front door and tried toucking the door but the mountain Ash pushed her away.
Aiden looked at her with furrowed eyebrows, wondering what she is.
----------------
Argent showed Katashi the broken mask. "Starting to remember? It was 24 years ago."
Katashi nodded and the men let go of Isaac.
"You know what they are, don't You?" Argent asked when Katashi picked up a piece of the mask.
"They're called oni. They're demons" Katashi answered. "And they are unstoppable."

The Trials of Bethany
Bethany, is a young girl who didn't expect anything more from her life than to spend her time churning butter and trying to ignore the abuse of her fellow village members. In any other world this would be a reasonable expectation for a person in the middle ages. But Bethany was lucky, or unlucky depending on how you look at it. Because her world was about to get a whole lot bigger, and a whole lot scarier. The Trials of Bethany, is a Gamelit story of a system arriving on earth in the middle ages with the characters being teleported away regularly to face trials to earn their skill levels. As such there won't be a flood of skills however there will be constant progression and other hidden treats. The story will be evolving as it's written and as always aspects of the story/world are prone to change. This is my first serious attempt at writing and my first time publishing anywhere so all constructive criticism is welcome. Currently uploading Tuesday & Friday with occasional bonus chapters.

A future of warring Beastmen tribes, deadly monsters, and magic from beyond the imagination. When the savage world is full of many threats, how will the average modern-day girl survive? Author's Note: This is a rewrite of my fiction with the original title. Instead of changing my chapters in my other draft, I made a copy with a different beginning and a few new chapters. The beginning will move straight to the fantasy world like most Isekai light novels. As usual, each chapter will go between 500 and 2,000 words. I deleted the other draft since this draft will be my focus. Enjoy and let me know what you think of this new draft. There may also be grammar and spelling errors too. This series is still in development.

His duty as a dhampir, his duty was clear, his fate sealed. But was it necessarily his fate? Could a sterile half breed such as himself, someone who did not exist in the human world, live anywhere in the world on the light? After a particularly nasty encounter with his Mentor, Heath is on the run. Set on not becoming the new guardian and knowing that decision has now marked him for death.
