《The Alteras Games: World Jumper Book 2》Chapter 9

"Jeff, don't be an idiot and jump." Kayley dragged him away from the railing.
"I got a bit of aluminum with me. I might be able to slow their fall." Jeff kept trying for the edge.
"Yes, but you been practicing flying with the metal today. You don't have the skill to do something so reckless. Jet went after her. Tulle will be fine." Kayley tripped him to put Jeff into a hold.
"Jet can't fly. The fool will get himself killed." Jeff growled.
"How much aluminum do you have left?" Kayley asked.
Jeff sighed and relaxed. "Not much."
Kayley let him go but kept an eye on him. "Now, calm down so we can make a plan."
"Plan? No one could survive a fall like that." Hogan pointed out as he threw the dead man off the ledge.
"Don't just chuck a body off the ledge like that. What if it lands on them?" Jeff asked in horror.
"Yeah, the odds of that happening are very slim. Now, I don't know Jetsford that well. Is there any way he could have survived the fall?" She asked.
Jeff crossed his arms and looked over the railing. "I don't know. Honestly, I don't know how powerful Jet is. He hasn't ever talked to me about the first world he went to. I've seen Alex do more than he has. But since he dove off after her, we should figure Jet is alive." Jeff shook his head. "Jet makes no sense to me. He claims not to be a hero, yet tries to save people."
"I see, then what shall we do?" Kayley asked.
"We just come back with the rations. So now we have a week and a half worth if we ration. I don't know how far Jet has got on the steps." Jeff sighed. "So we will go down them until they end. Then we will use all the rope we have procured for the last stretch." He noticed both of them looking at him. "What?"
"You're crazy," Hogan said flatly.
"Let's do this." Kayley smiled.
"You're both crazy." Hogan looked back and forth at them.
"Are you going or not, Hogan?" Jeff asked as he walked over to the entrance.
"Of course, this old man has nothing better to do. I also owe you all a debt. You saved my life." Hogan followed after them.
"Oh, check it out. Jetsford refilled our water bowl and made it bigger. It might last the two weeks he was gone. Too bad, we're about to abandon this place." Kayley filled up as many bottles as they had.
"Alright, let's get going. It should only take, depending on our pace, over an hour to walk down the steps. It should be a little over ten thousand steps down, depending on the rise of each step. Jet's been at this for two weeks. He got to be close to the bottom. Of course, I got no idea how long each step took." Jeff gave them both a thumbs up.

"Welp, I'm all ready to go." Kayley followed Jeff out the door.
They jogged down the stairs for about three hours before Jeff stopped. "This isn't right."
"What's wrong?" Kayley asked.
We have been jogging for over three hours, if I'm right. At our pace, we should be closer to three miles down." Jeff looked over the railing to think. "Of course, I'm such an idiot."
After a while, Kayley asked. "Why are you an idiot?"
"I don't know how magic works and never thought to ask Jet how far his could go. Like what point does his magic faze out or dissipate? Questions I should have asked earlier." Jeff kicked the wall in frustration.
"So, do we keep going?" Hogan asked.
"Yes, I'm quite curious how far down this place goes." Kayley smiled.
"Yeah, no point turning back now. We have the supplies to keep going. Let's just hope it's not bottomless like the guards say." Jeff started back down the stairs.
After another few hours of jogging down the stairs, Hogan stopped panting. "Hold up. I'm not as young anymore. Can we take a break?"
"Agreed, I could use a break as well." Kayley seconded the idea.
"Good idea, even I'm starting to feel the burn." Jeff figured that hadn't translated right, given the look they gave him. "It's an Earth saying."
"Why don't you just say you're tired? Wouldn't it be easier?" Kayley shook her head.
"You're going to have fun on Earth." Jeff smiled at her.
"That's if our way back isn't dead." Kayley frowned.
"Yeah, for now, we assume Jet pulled off a miracle." Jeff looked up and smiled. "Hey, there is some aluminum nearby."
"And you're barely sensing it?" Kayley asked.
"Well, I don't keep the sense on all the time. I more like turn it on a few seconds at a time." Jeff explained.
"Oh, I just thought it worked all the time. You seem to find metals so fast." Kayley cocked her head in thought.
Jeff, on the other hand, did not want to give away that it makes him get headaches if he left his metal sense on too long. Now the metals burning away while he used them was too obvious to hide. So far, he figured out two metals. Aluminum can make him float around and possibly fly if he practiced. Iron would vibrate at high speeds and puncture stuff easily. So he formed throwing stars with the iron he held. Not that he would throw them at a person. That would end up killing the person. "You guys rest. I'm going to collect the aluminum."
While Jeff collected the metals around them, the others rested. He knew that he should rest, but the mining for him rested his legs anyways. All he had to do was hang from a hook and rope. 'Wish I could figure out what the copper could do.' He thought as he mined what he found. Just for the heck of it, he burned the metal. It was doing absolutely nothing.

"Hey Jefferson, you ready to go?" Kayley yelled to him.
Jeff was glad he had the rope. Kayley's voice was so loud that he lost his grip. He had never used the metals around other people so they wouldn't get hurt. So he had not noticed the sound amplification. It also didn't help that he was burning the metal more than those other times, or he may have noticed the amplified noises.
"Jefferson, are you ok." Kayley immediately climbed up to him.
"I'll be fine. It was the shock of your yell being amplified. It turns out copper makes me hear things better. Not sure how that works." Jeff rubbed at his ears that were ringing.
"That's cool. Now you should practice with another person around." She whispered to him.
"I stopped using the copper. You don't need to whisper. Now let's get down and on our way." Jeff was still a bit excited to find out what another metal does.
Once they got down, Hogan eyed Jeff. "Boy, do you know that your ears are bleeding?"
Jeff looked at his hands. There were spots of blood. "Looks like they are bleeding. I'll need to be careful when using the copper."
Without any warning, Kayley wiped up the blood on his ears. Jeff just stood and looked at her while she wiped it away. She looked at him and cocked her head. "What?" She asked.
"Nothing. You guy's ready to head out?" Jeff turned to start jogging, but Kayley stopped him.
"Would you like me to store these metals first? I'm sure you don't want to carry the extra weight." She said.
"Oh yeah, sure. I'm going to keep the aluminum just in case, though." Jeff handed her the other metals and a few gems he had found.
By the time they got to the bottom of Jet's stairs, Jeff was freaking out slightly. "This cannot be possible." He looked at the last step.
"What?" Kayley and Hogan both asked.
"I know I'm supposed to be on another world. But we have to gone twenty plus miles down these stairs. Probably more than thirty." Jeff pointed out.
"So why is that not possible?" Kayley asked.
"On Earth, the deepest hole is less than five miles. I think, for sure less than ten miles." Jeff said.
"But, we're not on your Earth, Jefferson." Kayley pointed out the obvious.
"I'm still skeptical that you're both from different worlds. Then again, you two are really odd." Hogan sat down on the steps. "So, can we get some sleep before climbing down?"
"Yeah, it would be foolish to try tired. Now we just need to find a comfortable place to lay." Jeff rubbed his chin while looking down into the darkness. "I wonder how much further down this place goes?"
"That's a simple test." Kayley took a rock out of her earring and tossed it into the dark. The sounds of the rock splashing only took a few seconds. "I'd say we're at the bottom."
Jeff broke out laughing. "You think Jet knew he was so close before stopping?"
"You're laughing when your friend could be dead?" Hogan kept moving around, trying to find a comfortable place to sleep.
"When I stop to think about that. I remember it is him. Jet wouldn't have jumped if he thought he would die." Jeff decided to do the same and find a place to sleep.
Jeff wasn't too sure what had woken him up. It could have been Kayley leaning on him, drooling on his shoulder, or it could be the ghost of a girl in front of him. "Uh, hi."
"Warning, s%
"That was ominous." Jeff wasn't too sure what was going on. 'If I had to guess, she was saying warning, system failure. That does not sound good.' He thought, then got distracted from Kayley screaming. "What's going on?" He jumped to his feet.
"I thought I smelled Jeff. How's it going, buddy?" Alex stood on the railing with an arm in her mouth.
"What the fuck is that, and is that an arm in its mouth?" Hogan was backing away.
"Don't be afraid. This is Alex. She has been asleep for a while. Although I'm a bit curious why you have an arm?" Jeff took a better look at the arm. The hand gave it away. It had to be Jet's arm. He remembered the scars on the hand.
Alex dropped the arm and smiled. "Jet lost his arm and asked me to retrieve it for him."
"Oh crap, is Jetsford alright then." Kayley put her hand over her mouth.
"Yes, just pissed about his missing arm. You guys have some food, right?"
"About a week and a half's worth. Suppose we go sparingly over two weeks. Since Jet is injured, we will need to plan for how long we need to stay down here." Jeff noticed Alex was shaking her head.
"Jet is fine. Tulle took quite a bit of damage, though. So he is back at our camp taking care of the girl. Her arm got infected." Alex didn't get to finish because Kayley grabbed her.
"You got to take us to them. I got some medicine I can give her." Kayley put Alex back down and got out a rope.
Alex looked her up and down. "I don't smell anything on you."
"Kayley has inter-spacial earrings on. Who knows what she has in them." Jeff told Alex.
"Inter what now?" Hogan asked.
"Oops, forgot you were here. Just don't worry about what I said." Jeff waved it off.
"Yes, I'll just magically forget what you said." Hogan shook his head.
"Would you two get ready to go? I've already got the rope ready." Kayley wanted to check on Tulle.
"Oh hey, Jeff, could you carry Jet's arm? It tastes awful." Alex didn't even give him a choice. She leaped off the stairs and flew down to the water.

Blood Quest - A LitRPG
Leon's family has been diagnosed with a new type of incurable blood disease. It's an absolute death sentence and when it turns aggressive, you only have a few more years of painful life left to live. His mother has just begun the last years of the disease when a person supposedly comes back from death with supernatural abilities. He talks about a choice you get after death--get an extra chance to come back to life, or die. Even with Leon's diminishing life span, he won't consider the option of going there, until he meets another survivor who had the same goal as him and succeeded. Leon has a choice to make—die now for a chance to save his mother, or die in a few years, where the disease rapidly melts his muscles from his own body. He enters a game-like world, a sort of limbo, where his ultimate goal is to climb the tower of Katastroph before his mother's time runs out. There are a few problems with this though. The tower is almost impossible to beat, if you die you won't revive, and only three people in over twenty years have actually made it back. Leon has two years to climb the tower, with the help of the few people willing to try, while Ai, the tutorial guide, makes things harder for them. ***** The story starts pretty dark but goes onto a lighter tone. Then (more) dark again. Disclaimer: This story is an experimental project and I hope to get any and all feedback you can give me. Warning: First draft. Chapters tend to be between 3400-4100 words long (about 8-11 A4-pages). Mentioning it since I've seen it in other fictions :P Sometimes they're shorter, sometimes they're longer. ******************************** CHAPTER RELEASES UPDATE: As the first "book" in the series is done, I'm going to release coming chapters somewhat sporadically, and when Writathon ends, I'll probably go back to publishing one chapter per weekend. We'll just have to wait and see! I hope you enjoy the story! I really appreciate all comments and feedback, so if you have anything to say, feel free to voice it :) ************ [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge]

But things aren't going to be easy, as the further he plunges into his world, the more he will realize things aren't quite what he thought them to be. This story is a case study on a realistic approach to isekai as well as what it means to "know" someone / something, and to "KNOW" them. There will be hard themes and uncomfortable truths, and just like with real life, it will show things as they are unfiltered.
