《The Alteras Games: World Jumper Book 2》Chapter 10

Jet felt like crap, and there was no other way to describe the feeling. When he opened his eyes, he noticed a blue flame burning. He had no idea how it could still be there after he passed out.
"About time you got up." Alex's head popped up in front of him.
"Alex, you woke up?" Jet felt as if someone slapped him a few times. "Alex, were you trying to wake me?"
"Yes, you cleaned up Tulle's ribs. But you forgot her arm, and now it's infected." Alex smacked Jet with her tail.
Jet sat up, which felt weird doing without an arm. "I thought I patched up her arm." Shaking his head, he couldn't remember too well.
"You bandaged my arm. But you took more care with my ribs. I don't blame you. You weren't exactly thinking straight." Tulle breathed heavily while leaning on a wall.
"No excuse, Jet should better plan for his idiocy. Didn't we meet after you did something like this?" Alex winked at him.
"Yes, but this time I lost an arm. Now better make sure Tulle doesn't lose hers." Jet got up to look at Tulle's arm. But something caught his attention. He could still feel his arm, but it was off in the distance. "How strange."
"Jet, are you ok?" Alex asked worriedly. Jet had gotten into the habit of locking her out of his mind.
"It's nothing. Let's get a look at your arm." He walked over to Tulle. After a few minutes, Jet complained about his missing arm. It was getting on his nerve how hard it was to do stuff without the arm. "Yeah, this looks bad." Jet winced at the disgusting-looking skin. Her arm looked badly bruised, and puss leaked out of the infection. "How long had I slept?"
"Dude, that isn't cool. Why would you say this looks bad? Tulle is only a little girl." Alex glared at Jet. "Oh, and I have no clue how long you have been out. I don't know if you noticed, but it is always dark here. Even I can't tell how much time has passed. Not only that." Alex paused and looked around.
"Time feels off here." Jet finished. "Kayley said it had something to do with some of the ores here. But I don't think that is the case. Something much bigger is going on down here." He sent over the memories of the ghost girl.
'That is very ominous. Got a thought on what she said?' Alex didn't talk aloud for this part.
'Warning, system failure. That is what I'm sure she said before disappearing.' Jet thought back.
"Wow, that sounded like gibberish to me." Alex forgot to think those words back to him.
"I've always been good at hang man. Just had to fill in the blank spots." Jet noticed a tulle staring at him. "What?"
"Were you two talking to each other telepathically?" Tulle asked.
"Sort of, a piece of Alex's soul is attached to mine. So she is really is just in my head." Jet explained and put his mind back on their problem. "I'm not sure if I can help you, Tulle. I've got no medical knowledge. So I'll clean the wound and put new bandages for now."

"Sounds like an interesting story." Tulle winced in pain.
Jet taking the hint, told her the tale while working on her arm. Along with a few curses for the missing arm. But he couldn't help but look in a certain direction as if his arm was still around. "Alright, let's make sure to keep your arm clean for now. Don't need you to look like me in the future."
Tulle slightly laughed at the comment. "You lost your right arm. I might lose my left, so we won't be the same." She barely finished before falling asleep.
"We need to talk about your arm, Jet." Alex flew up to his eye level.
"Going to tell me I was a fool for what I did. Should've just let Tulle die."
"What? No, not at all. Think about it. I'm completely made of magic. So I was thinking we need to practice making an arm. It may take you some time. You don't have the years of experience I have with magic." Alex stopped when Jet looked off in the distance again. "What are you looking for out there?"
"I can still feel my arm. You know this one that's missing." Jet pointed at his obviously missing arm. "I know about ghost pain. But this is different. I can feel it's off in that direction." He pointed out into the darkness. Then he let Alex fully into his mind to get her opinion.
"Oh, that is weird. You do have the ghost pain, but your arm can be felt from that direction." Alex wondered why his arm could be felt still. It made absolutely no sense.
"I'm going to go and find my arm. Stay here and watch Tulle for me." Jet walked in the direction he felt his arm until he started to wave in place and lose his balance.
"Stay here. I'll go fetch your arm." Alex sighed and flew away. She was not about to swim in the water. Especially since she had just started and passed two mangled bodies floating in the water so that she could see, she had lightning arcing off her horns into a ball in the center.
Jet decided that he would not go back to sleep. He had to get back into fighting shape and quick, or at least able to move around. "Guess I'll make a temporary home." But he got distracted by the weapons sitting by the wall. All three of them were there. He didn't remember summoning Fate to this world. It wouldn't even do him any good now. World Breaker was also in its sheath that he hadn't realized he could summon with the sword.
He was about to leave the weapons leaning on the wall and work on something. Until he noticed a holster for a gun by Fate. When he picked it up, a piece of paper fell out. Jet leaned down to grab the paper and tried to unfold it one-handed. It was almost like someone knew he only had one hand and folded in an impossible way to undo. He finally got the paper open to read.
Well, that took you long enough to open. All you needed to do was pull on two corners at once. I know you only have one arm at the moment, but you could have used your teeth. More to the point, Fate can change into a gun. On the back of this paper is instruction on how to do that. Fate has two ways to be used. First, you can use magic to charge Fate for a shot. If used for ten consecutive shots using magic within one minute will overheat Fate. Do not touch the glowing barrel. It will burn. Second, Fate can use bullets. It uses .50 caliber bullets. The slot for the bullet is also shown in the instructions. You won't be able to fire them fast enough to overheat Fate. One last thing, do not fire the bullet without magic. You'll be disappointed and waste time. It will not fire without any magic. In case of this situation, once the gems aligned in the gun start to empty. Fate will automatically go back into the form of a bow. There are some worlds that will dissipate magic once in the air. I, Aaron, not Tony, leave the rest to you again.

P.S. you should get out of that place as soon as possible. Every moment with Amanda shouldn't be wasted.
Jet finished the letter and frowned. "Who the hell is this, Aaron?" Tony sounded familiar to him, but with everything that had happened. He had forgotten about the two who sold him his gear. 'Wait, a better question is, how does he know about Amanda?'
'You ok over there? Jet, you might be able to keep me out now. But your emotions are all over the place right now.' Alex questioned.
Jet just dropped the wall in his mind. He wasn't even sure why he bothered keeping the wall up. Alex has already been through his whole mind. 'So, any thoughts on this matter?'
Jet waited for an answer, but none came. After about five minutes passed, he got a bit worried. So worried he was reading the instructions on the paper. 'This looks a bit complicated.' He hoped Alex would answer, but he was left to his own devices. Which meant he held certain spots with his teeth. But in the end, he got Fate to change into a gun. All he had to do was fill each gem with magic first. 'This looks awfully familiar.'
'Yeah, looks like the gun Almark was holding in your memory.' Alex finally spoke.
'I knew I'd seen it somewhere. Hold on, your talking again?' Jet thought back to her.
'Yes, must have been out of range to speak. Never had that happened before. I'm also able to travel much further from you now. By the way, I found your arm and Jeff's group. I followed some ghost that looked like a little girl.' Alex noticed Jet's thoughts and memories were completely unblocked. So she caught up quickly that he had seen the ghost as well. 'The situation here does not sound good. We will be there in a few minutes.'
While Jet waited for the others to show, he wanted to try Fate out. But there were some more warnings on the instructions side of the paper. Like don't fire Fate at the wall in front of you, or the shrapnel could hit Tulle. He could not figure out how they knew so much about him.
Jet's hair started to stand on end. When he turned, the ghost girl was standing on the wall holding the water back. She slowly tilted her head and pointed out into the darkness. "World Jumper, help me." She then dissipated again.
Jet didn't even hesitate. But he did put on the belt for Fate and slung World Breaker on his back. He walked over to the floating fireball heating the area. Still unsure how he had made the fireball, he added more magic. If he was about to walk away, he didn't want Tulle to freeze. So he also took his coat off to help keep her warm. 'Alex, when you get back. Watch over them. I need to go check something out.' Before Alex could protest, Jet blocked her out, which was getting easier for him. He also left behind some magic for her to collect.
Jet walked over and leaped onto the wall. That's when he realized his shoes were missing. Now he wondered when he had lost them. Until he remembered that he had taken them off to sleep before all this had happened. "Whatever." He said and walked out onto the water that froze underneath him with every step.
After about a half hour of walking, he realized his magic flowed through his feet better without the shoes. It wasn't too long before someone came running towards him. He did not look back. It was obvious who would chase him down no matter what. "Jeff, I said to stay behind while I check something out."
"Would it really hurt for me to join?" Jeff fell in beside Jet.
Jet just let out a long breath. "You should be fine. Alex is the one who would have stopped me."
"Speaking of Alex. Here," Jeff handed over Jet's arm. "Alex made me carry that."
Jet took it and took a good look at his arm. It was quite mangled. He was glad he hadn't felt the pain when he landed. But now, he could feel his arm in two different locations in front of himself and back where he had lost the arm. That wasn't quite right. He could feel it in a few locations now. "I wonder." Jet pulled the skin off his arm and recovered one of the cores connecting the bones. Sure enough, he could feel the small core.
"What the hell are you doing?" Jeff half yelled and asked.
Jet put the arm down and burned all the flesh off his arm to get the cores. He figured the bones would burn away as well. But they remained glittering in the light of his flames. They were a silvery blue color. The cores looked to be translucent, but a few had blue cracks on them. When he picked the bones and cores up, they lit up for a second, then disappeared.

The Ingress Estate
Jonathon Eucole. Soldier. Scholar. Now an Initiate, the dedication without dedication, he finds himself both prisoner and master of an arcane edifice, the Ingress Estate, which can neither be escaped, nor controlled; only diverted, maintained, and pacified. This is a gothic fantasy story, set in a world in which gods and the afterlife are not only real and known, but were both established in living memory of some of the inhabitants after millennia of arcane warfare with the being who constructed the mundane reality the humans occupy. But this isn't the story of those who colonized the afterlife at the cost of their own humanity, but a somewhat more ordinary man, in somewhat extraordinary circumstances. This is also a LitRPG-lite, which means there's a system of sorts, fragments of which can be observed through Jonathon's eyes. Don't expect level-up screens, or statistics, or indeed numbers much at all, beyond those the inhabitants of the world itself apply to understanding their own reality. It pretty much doesn't matter to the story, I mention it so those who don't want to read LitRPG at all can successfully avoid it here. I don't have any particular plan here, just some ideas inherent in the genre. This is a character concept I toyed with some years ago; an old man, bright of mind but weighed down into apathy, both by his past and his responsibilities for a terrible estate that cannot be left without stewardship. Don't expect any kind of overarching plot or story, because that's really not what this is about. Also don't expect much dialogue. Or character development. Or much of anything, really, because I've planned nothing in the way of an actual book, here. Other relevant information, if you've read this far for some reason: The MC isn't super-powerful to begin with, and probably never will be. He's a veteran with some useful skills, and the insight on how to use them, so can deal with the world's ordinary threats reasonably well, but not too much beyond that. --- Currently on hiatus, as currently the story has a rather poor ratio of effort-to-personal-payoff. I may return to this once I have a clear idea of how to get the stories where I want them. I've started a more standard LitRPG using the same system. But if you like intelligence characters who cleverly min-max their classes, it probably isn't the story for you; it's the story of a rather ordinary guy who winds up in a very similar universe.
