《A Moth's Stories》A Hunters Moon

A hunters moon is a rare and feared event.
Its seemingly random appearance changing the sky of a full moon into a reddish and purple tint, casting a dull darkness rather than light.
Its appearance is localised to a small area, where once you enter its influence, you cant escape. One minute you can be walking through an open field on a moonless night, and then as you cross the threshold, the dark night turns to a shaded moonlight zone.
What causes these moons is rumoured to be all sorts of things. Some say it’s the world trying to achieve something. Others say it’s a ritual gone wrong. Some question if it is the working of powerful spirits and the rarer few still believe it is divine judgment taken form. No matter the belief of its occurrence, one thing always remains the same. Those who enter, if they do, return changed.
Now, the survivors of these phenomenon are few and far between. Even rarer than the moon itself. They never mention what they saw or did in that space besides the look and what happens at the end; but there is always parts they refuse to talk about. But the bits they talk about it are concerning. Monsters, demons, crazed indviduals, and other things are said to occur. In the affected area of a hunters moon, no sound can leave and individuals within the event cant be seen. Once the moon vanishes, anyone not deemed a survivor is gone. No bodies are ever even found let alone recovered.
If someone survivals the hunters moon, they always receive something to mark them as a victor against the odds. With the most recent moon, which occurred about 24 months ago, there was two people to survive. Each gained the ability to cast magic and, are seemingly now immortal. Tests showed they just cant be physically hurt. From a knife to a bullet, they just don’t take any physical damage. A prior survivor gained the ability to teleport wherever they pleased. Surprisingly they were able to teach others how to use the normally extraordinarily rare ability with an almost perfect record. A third example belongs to a survivor who escaped missing an arm, leg, and eye, but held what is now known as the holy grail.

The most devastating hunters moon in recorded history happened 48 years ago. A city centre was hit during a festival. Out of the recorded 53,789 people reported missing from the moon, there was only 2 people who made it out. One of which died later due to injuries sustained at presumably the end of the cataclysm. They each gained an item. The man who died gained the ability to predict the future perfectly and a small crystal of unknown usage to this day. The second man went mad and with his gifts of telekinesis and a magic shield, he became a wanted man but eventually vanished for seemingly no reason.
While all who survive these terrible nocturnal events agree they truly became better overall from the seemingly horrific events. They also agree on another one thing.
A hunters moon, is not a trail of bravery or strength. Loyalty or wits. Intellect or charisma. But one of fear and determination. Adaptation and instinct. Struggle and survival
Survival from the hunters that come down to claim their domain.

At The Lions Gate
In the 20th century America reinvented itself. Devastated by depression, scarred by war, rocked by a revolution, Americans banded together to preserve their country and their freedom. They had faith in themselves, faith in one another, and for those who believed…faith in God. This novel tells the story of one American who lived through those turbulent years….years that would test his character and the character of a nation. For Josh Sanders it begins in 1935. A star athlete in school, pro football is a ticket out of poverty during the Great Depression; but when his father, a WWI veteran, is killed during a robbery, Josh’s spirit is broken, and with it his boyhood dream. To honor his father Josh joins the war effort in 1942, distinguishing himself as a fighter pilot, until a fateful decision near the end of the war changes the course of his life once again. But many years later, after a stint as a boxer and a failed marriage, Josh finds his calling…at a time when the country is at war with itself. The year is 1968. King and Kennedy have been killed, race riots are breaking out, and Vietnam has become an albatross, causing massive protests across the country. In the streets of San Francisco Josh watches a crowd of students march for peace. As a veteran he’s conflicted, toward the war and those who oppose it. But when he encounters Rosy Goldin, a spirited young protester in need of help, a voice from the past calls him to action. His good intentions are soon tested when Rosy falls in love with the fugitive anti-war activist Erick White, a young man determined to oppose the war at all costs, against the wishes of his own father. Fearful of what happens to Rosy, Josh confronts Erick, unwilling to be part of his plan to escape…until he meets the boy’s father. A high-powered criminal attorney, Karl White is also a flag-waving patriot demanding that his son follow the law. But as White makes his case Josh is jolted by a painful war-time memory, a crisis of conscience that will soon determine the fate of Rosy Goldin and Erick White.
