《A Moth's Stories》The Twilight Canyon

Our world is full of mysteries. Some are people. Some are creatures and monsters. Some are objects. And some are places.

One such place is the famous twilight canyon. Named as such for its unique appearance and ecosystem. During the day, late into dawn and early dusk, the large collection of eroded paths has the colours of the orange stone found across the desert, small amounts of flora which are typically a shade of green, and glints of metal within the walls and ground of the large natural ecosystem. The fauna of the area during the day is that of typical desert animals such as lizards, vultures, camels, and small insects, which roam these large ravines, divots, shallow caves, and small water flows that make up the twilight canyon.

The area is inhabited by a nomadic people who will only be found if they wished to be. The _____ as they call themselves are the native humans of this area and have lived here for generations. Their language, despite being contacted so infrequently through all of written history, is extremely similar to modern languages which is odd but seems to be just an absurd coincidence as far as even chronomancers can determine.

The real surprise comes at, as the name suggests, twilight. When the moon is out, the canyons take on a very different appearance.

First, the stone, sky, and moon, all take a purple hue. This alone makes it a unique area as only a dozen or so areas across the world cause this sort of effect in various colours for unknown reasons. The stone also gains luminescent patterns which shift on a daily basis, with roughly 180 different symbols being recorded but occasionally a new symbol is documented. These symbols glow in a variety of dulled colours and, when touched, vanish instantly, and a new symbol will reappear where the last one vanished withing 5 hours. If several symbols are touched, the entire canyon can instantly rearrange itself. The native populous seem to know how to manipulate this to their advantage but due to lack of contact, it is unknown how they do this.

The nocturnal flora physically replaced the diurnal versions by some unknown method and will always happen when you are not looking. All it takes is the blink of an eye and the desert flora is replaced by vibrant, bioluminescent coral, mushrooms, trees, grass, flowers, and other types of plants. Upon It becoming day time, the flora changes back its day time counterparts. Any samples instantly vanish or turn to the diurnal versions upon it becoming day or being carried too far away from the canyon.

The fauna is that of one species. A large butterfly which, depending on its chosen colour, either can mean to admire it, or fear it. Any attempts to learn and study these creatures have led to entire teams of personal being killed or vanishing entirely so they are left be until we have some way of studying them further.

It is unknown why this region of the world, located in the middle of one of the most inhospitable regions, has such abnormal properties. But all we can do for now is observe the region and see what we can learn from this mysterious region.
