《Vampire's Betrayal》Chapter Ten

Donny and I talked for a little bit longer before he had to attend to some family business. Leaving me alone in his room.

As I sat on the bed, I started to feel like I didn't belong. I felt like I was just impersonating someone who I really wasn't. This whole thing just looked like a mess and made me confused. This whole entire time this whole new life of mine felt like it was just a movie and I was the lead actress.

It felt like with how fast everything changed, I just didn't have a chance to really process it all. Now that I had time to do so, I was just confused. I don't even know who I really was anymore.

Back in my hometown, I was just Leah Rickabe who was still going through the process of losing their older sister. I had accepted my parents' divorce and I was happy just hanging out with my friends. Now all of that was gone. Remembering that simple life made a small tear fall down my face, making me roughly wipe it away.

"God I wish you were here to talk to, Sally," I said quietly to myself.

Sally would know what to say in a situation like this. She would be my voice of reason, telling me whether I'm being an idiot or making the right choice. Especially right now because I feel like an idiot for walking away from the twins. I should have fought for them harder than I did, but I also know that Derik is taking good care of them.

A sudden knock on the door made me jump a little as I looked towards the door. Feeling nervous, I got off the bed to open the door a small crack. On the other side of the door was a young woman looking very annoyed. She had long bleached hair with red streaks in it. Thick black eye liner framed her red eyes, matching the black lipstick on her pierced lips.

"I'm supposed to take you to go get clothes," she explained. Sounding as if she was being forced to do this small task. But the more I thought about it, the more I thought that she was in fact being forced to take me shopping.

I didn't say anything as I exited the room. She didn't even wait for me as she headed to the entrance of the house. Making me literally run after her. But it gave me a chance to take in the rest of her appearance. She had on an oversized black tank top that showed off her black lace bra on the sides. Her black jeans even had way more rips in it than what I was comfortable with. The only thing I liked that she was wearing were her black wedges.

As I chased after her, I got just as annoyed by her behavior. She didn't even bother to introduce herself to me. I completely understand that she didn't have to like me since I came from the enemy, but she could at least let me know her name.

As if the universe heard me complain, Max came running up to us from somewhere in the house, "Arika!"

The girl looked back and gave him a loving smile, "What's up, Babe?"

Max held out a credit card at the girl as he kissed her, answering her question after pulling away, "Donny says to use that."

She looked the credit card over with a curious look in her eyes, "The boss is handing over his own personal card to pay for the traitor's new clothes?"

He rolled his eyes as he warned her, "Don't let him hear you complain. I just got my ass chewed out for pointing a knife at her."

It just amazed me like they were talking as if I wasn't even there. The whole situation was just making me even more annoyed. So annoyed that I was ready to open my mouth to say something when the sound of someone clearing their throat filled the area. All three of us looked towards the source.

A new face stood in front of me. This new person was a man with shoulder length hair that probably the blackest shade he could find. His right eyebrow was pierced. His eyes had heavy black eye liner and eye shadow, making the red in his eyes stand out. Everything that was black on him seemed to be darker and it took me a while to realize that it was because his skin was almost so pale that it looked white.

"Do I hear someone questioning the boss's intentions?" he said in a very deep voice, "I'll be more than happy to report this behavior to him."

Both Max's and Arika's eyes grew wide. I half expected them to get down on their knees and start begging for forgiveness. But to my disappointment, they didn't. Instead they just walked off together into the house. My jaw nearly dropped.

The man watched after them before turning towards me. Holding out his hand, he introduced himself, "The name is Vlad."

"Vlad? Like in Vlad the Impaler?" I heard myself ask.

He smiled, "My parents are direct decedents of the very man. My little brother got spared any family names. Lucky bastard."

"Why are you being so nice to me?" I asked in suspicion.

Vlad sighed, "I used to be like you. I left the Seadonna family and joined this one instead."

"Really?"

He nodded, "My soulmate was terminally ill when I met her, but I couldn't accept the bond between us. It wouldn't be fair to either of us. Especially when I don't see her more than a little sister. My parents tried to convince me that it was the right thing to do. That it was the rules and maybe I could have a child before she died."

"I can see why you thought it wasn't fair," I told him.

"Yeah," he agreed, "She may have loved me, but I couldn't risk her life to have a child that could have killed her in the end. Then I would be stuck with raising a child by myself. I wasn't ready for that responsibility. So I told my parents 'no', they threw me out, and I told my brother that I was out."

"Where is your brother now?" I asked.

He smiled, "You may have passed him without even noticing since he is part of the Royal Guard. His name is Mika Seadonna."
