《Vampire's Betrayal》Chapter Nine

The sound of Donny clearing his throat, made me look away from my phone. He leaned against the door frame as he looked at me with stern eyes, "I guess there are somethings you can't completely throw away in that family."
I shook my head before answering, "The only thing they have that truly matters to me are the twins."
"Not David?" he suddenly asked. It took everything I had to not roll my eyes, but Donny noticed my annoyance making him smile, "Getting tired of being reminded of that?"
"You have no idea," I sighed.
"I think I do. What you don't know is that half of my followers are here because they didn't want anything to do with their soulmates," he explained, "Sometimes it's not as perfect as the Seadonnas would like you to believe. Some of us are just bad people."
Nodding, I accepted what he said. I could tell that there were some stories behind some of the members that I have met that I wouldn't understand. Even though it wasn't really my business, I wanted to know everyone of their stories. Starting with the one that had put me in this situation in the first place.
"What was Emily's story?" I asked, making Donny chuckle quietly.
"I was wondering when that was going to come up," he mentioned as he came out onto the patio and sat next to me at the table. Letting out a sigh as he did so.
It was still hard for me to wrap my head around how old Donny really was. He was old enough to be my father, if he wasn't already the same age as him. But you would never know that since in Seadonna years, he was still twenty-eight years old.

"Emily is the daughter of a Seadonna that had an affair before his mating," Donny explained, "Her father wasn't in the second stage of Gene V but he planned on marrying his soulmate. But before he did that he slept with a woman and then Emily was born from that one night stand."
I nodded my head to show that I was understanding what he was explaining.
"When Emily was born, her father didn't want anything to do with her. Basically told her mother that it wasn't his problem," Donny continued, "It was just her and her mother for a while until her mother had Eric with the same asshole after a drunken night. He apparently got in a fight with his wife and decided his mistress was the best option to not be lonely."
"Where is he now?" I heard myself ask.
He gave me a serious look as he stared at me, "Emily ended up killing him right before David confessed his feelings to her."
Pretty sure my jaw dropped to the ground after he said that. It wasn't something I was expecting to hear. But I could see Emily doing something like that after how she treated me when we first met. Also I'm sure there was more to the story that Donny wasn't telling me. It wasn't right for me to judge about the situation because I wasn't even there to begin with. It was something that had happened before I was even born if not just a little girl.
Donny sighed and sat back in his chair, "I don't understand why Emily would act the way she did and fake her own death. Maybe she didn't feel like she wasn't good enough to be by David's side."
"Or, it could be because Boss told her to," I mentioned.

He nodded his head in agreement, "Boss could do something like that. He can say the right things to make you do what he wants. Look what happened to my mother because of his words. You can even look at me as an example since I was made the enemy of the whole family."
"I'll fix it someday. I'll fix everything that he ruined," I promised.
His lips formed into a small smirk, "How do you plan on doing that? You have to remove the real evil first."

Blue Hills
Nothing had ever felt quite right for Alexander Adamson. He'd worked his way up to a job he could tolerate, a few casual friends, and even a nice little apartment that he could call his own, though it really wasn't. The problem was that none of it was satisfying. It was as though he were going through the motions of a life, rather than having one of his own. Of course, it didn't exactly feel right when he woke up in a strange bed in the middle of nowhere. Nor when he was told that he was now the proud owner and operator of a local farm. A farm that had belonged to a late uncle he'd never known. But with the first train out of town a full 'season' away, he had plenty of time to get used to the idea. Plenty of time, perhaps, to even get to like the strange little town of Blue Hills. I have a discord now. Marvel at my ability to somehow still be antisocial on the other side of a screen! Back from hiatus along with my other fiction. Chapters are on a Thurs/Sun schedule until book 3 of that fiction is completed, at which point I'll be updating this daily. At which point uh.... I dunno what I'm going to do.

One might say that to anger forces beyond the ken of fragile breakable mortals is a bad idea, others might say that meddling in dark forces with little chance of gain is also a bad idea, they would both be right by on all counts but they forget to mention also how incredibly stupid combining both of those things are. Stupid people don’t last so long on the mystic side of things, normal folks who wander over to the other side have a tendency to do one of two things, either A. figure out that the best thing to do is keep their head down and not draw attention from any entity that refers to humanity as “you mortals” , or B. something horrifying happens to them. As you may have guessed I fell into the second category, mostly because I thought there was a third option. See I though there must be an option C, an option where I got to end up not as some shitty back ally wizard cowering at the chance of discovery, praying that one of my wards or spells wouldn’t be noticed by something that goes bump in the night. No I would be the one who rose above all that. I would never have to be afraid. Well I made a good attempt at it that’s for damn sure, but unfortunately for me it turns out there is not an option C. At least not for me…
