《Vampire's Betrayal》Chapter Four

I looked at David in complete disbelief, "So you are just going to let it go?"

David hung his head in shame, "There isn't anything we can do. Boss out ranks us all."

"Bullshit!" I yelled. Scaring Jake next to me, "You can at least try. At least explain all that is going on and announce all that you discovered. Someone has to believe you."

Ricky looked guiltily at me, "I'm sorry, Leah. But our hands are tied."

I couldn't believe what he was saying. All this time I was constantly told how Ricky was the prince of the family. How he was their leader, but he couldn't punish one traitor because they outranked him? It made no sense. Ricky should outrank Boss, not the other way around.

Looking at Ricky with a serious look, I asked, "Are you scared to lead the family? Is that why you won't do it? Is that why you won't punish Boss for betraying the family?"

Knowing fully well that I pretty much just hurt Ricky's feelings, I turned and left before hearing what he had to see. I didn't even stick around to see his reaction. But I could feel David's glare as I walked away. There was no doubting that I was going to hear about my rudeness later.

I sat on the couch in my room while the twins slept. My eyes stared at nothing as I waited for someone to storm into my room. Ready to scold me for how I had treated Ricky. But no one came. It was probably for the best. At this moment in time, I wasn't ready to face anyone to begin with.

But as I continued to sit on the couch, the more my mind kept thinking about how they weren't even going to confront Boss. How they weren't going to punish him for causing this mess that didn't even need to start in the first place. It still puzzled me that someone could be so greedy for power that they would make their own family suffer. It just amazed me that there were actually people capable of doing such a thing.

The thought refused to leave my head, never leaving me alone. It was almost maddening. It got so bad to the point I asked Ashley to come over to my place so I could face the problem head on. If no one was going to face him, I will just have to do it myself.
