《Vampire's Betrayal》Chapter Three

For some reason Ricky decided to tag along with Jack and me as we headed for Jake's room. Which wasn't far from the area where Emily was being held. I found it odd, but I didn't put much thought into it. I just assumed that they were probably thinking that if the prisoners were close to the guests or innocent people, they wouldn't act out as much. Whatever the reason is, it was most likely the one who is running the family that made the decision.

Jordan was waiting for us outside of the apartment when we finally arrived. I even made note of him using his strength to keep the door closed. Jack gave him a knowing look, "You are going to have to release him eventually to see her."

"I am just waiting for him to calm down a bit," Jordan responded as a loud knock came from the door.

"I'm surprised he isn't screaming yet," I pointed out. But as soon as I said that we hear Jake screaming from the other side of the door. Making Jordan give me a displeased look.

I waved my arm at Jordan as a signal to release my best friend. Rolling his eyes, he let go of the handle. Jake literally came falling out of the door and glared at Jordan, "You sir are not nice."

"You still love me," he responded with a shrug of his shoulders.

"I hate that you are right," Jake complained before turning to me, "Leah!"

I braced myself as Jake threw his arms around me. He didn't say anything as he held me in his arms. Head resting on my shoulder, burying his face in my hair. I was pretty sure he was hiding the fact that he was crying over seeing that I was alive and fine. I wrapped my arms around him and patted him on the back until he composed himself.

It felt like an hour went by before Jake finally composed himself to look at me instead of only ten minutes. What probably made it feel like it took forever was the fact that no one said anything while he was going through his emotions. We all just stood there silently.

He eventually pulled himself away and then placed his hands on my shoulders. Studying me from head to toe, to see if there was anything different about me. When he was pleased he nodded his head, "Still looks like my Leah."

"What did you think she would look like after almost dying?" Ricky asked in disbelief, "Did you think she was going to be rotting like a zombie?"

"How am I supposed to know how the gene works?" Jake said back in a sassy tone. Making me laugh.

Jordan rolled his eyes before heading back into the apartment. It appeared that Jake didn't care that his partner had left him alone in the hallway with a bunch of vampires. But I guess no one was really in danger at this point.

With a heavy sigh, Ricky stated, "Make your meeting worth while because Leah starts learning about the lifestyle of the Seadonna Family tomorrow."

I looked at him in disbelief, "What about the classes I've already been taking?"

"Those were just to give you the history and the run down on what we are. You still need to learn a few things, like what happens during a blue moon," Ricky explained.

"Ah the blue moon phase," Jack said with a sigh. He sounded like he didn't enjoy it one bit. Which only made me feel more nervous.

Ricky glared at him, "Lucky for you the blue moon already passed. So you have plenty of time to prepare before the next one."

Even though I had time to prepare, I still felt nervous about it. This was a whole new life I wasn't sure I was ready for. But luckily I had a few close friends near by in case I needed any help in any way. Which made me feel very grateful. Then something clicked in my head.

Turning to Ricky, "What happened to Derik?"

Ricky chuckled softly, "He's fine. A little upset, but fine. Mike is with him right now to talk through things about what we need to decide on Emily."

"What do you mean?" I heard myself ask.

"Emily can't be killed without risking Derik's sanity," Jack explained, "It's the one flaw of Gene V that every Seadonna hates after finding their soulmate. If one dies, the other loses their sanity."

I remember being told that at some point but I couldn't remember when. I couldn't even remember who told me that very important detail. It also explains why Emily would want me dead in order to hurt David. Then there was another thing that was suddenly bugging me.

"Didn't Emily's death cause David to become fully a Seadonna at eighteen? How is Erik around the same age as her if that is the case?" I pointed out, making Ricky smile.

"I was wondering when you were going to get to that," he said.

Jack answered the question, "It's because Erik isn't blood bonded. He was only pretending to be when he is actually a Shidonna. He wore contacts to hide his true nature."

"His true nature?" I asked confused.

Ricky sighed, "Evil deeds is what turns the eyes red. He has Gene V that is in full swing of things."

That news shocked me. I hadn't expected to hear something like that. It was defiantly a twist I didn't see coming. But it also proved how he could be a spy and still not get suspected.

Getting serious I asked the next question that needed to be said, "What about the family traitor?"

Silence greeted me. It was something that wasn't settling well in the pit of my stomach. They were holding back information for a reason. I could see the struggle of them wanting to tell me and wanting to spare me the news. Luckily for them someone else pitched in for them.

"I'm sure my father has made plans for when something like this happens so that he can walk away free," David answered as he walked up to us in the hallway, "Also no one is going to believe us if we told them."
