《Two dead men for a bloody coin》chapter 3: New plan

-Remember, keep focusing on one specific thing.-

What thing?

-A trigger word or phrase.-

How does that help? Do I say it and suddenly I'm an infernal being hellbent on destruction?

-Actually yes, but it's... Let's just call it demon form.-

Still, for what reason do I have to use a trigger phrase?

-You moron. Mental triggers allow you to activate your abilities without having to draw upon sensitive subjects or traumatic events.-

Why did you even bring this up? I just killed 5 people and you bring up control? Wait, you have a point in saying that.

-Anyway we have to leave here, if a patrol such as the one you just killed is nowhere to be seen, reinforcements will come, and since people escaped and told the authorities of a demon, the difference in strength and size between this patrol and the reinforcements will be huge.-

How long do I have?

-About a day.-

It was good I killed them all in different ways, else the same problem would arise when salvaging the remains of the patrol to find any usable armor. Thankfully one of the trolls had a studded club that no longer belonged to him.

-The one you jumped on like a feral lynx.-

I had no choice. Either I stood my ground and let them kill me, or I defended myself.

-I'm sure you could have reached a pacific solution: is what I would say if I was a wuss. You simply did what was necessary.-

You're right, maybe they could have still lived. Maybe I could have been imprisoned instead of causing all this massacre.

-They would have killed you even if you behaved like a good dog. Years, possibly decades have passed, do you really think the situation with demons has improved, After what you did?-

Don't. Talk. About. That.... Are. We. Clear?

-Crystal clear, fafnir.-

I'm not an animal.

-You sure behave like one.-

Stop talking.

-Fine.-

I painstakingly removed all armor and clothing except for under clothing and dug them all a grave to bury them in-

-Frankly, you should eat them.-

No! why would I do that!?

-Because you are hungry.-

Firstly-

My stomach erupted a long, uninterrupted growl that brought me to my knees.

-See?-

There are lots of edible plants around here-

-Don't forget ground beef.-

I am not going to eat anyone!

-Yes, get angry so you can use your fires to cook them.-

You know what? Fine, I'll try one bite.

-I bet you'll say that after you eat a whole body.-

I pulled out a body and proceeded to eat the hamstring of the man. It was soft and covered in dirt, but it was nutrition nonetheless.

-I hate to say I told you so, but I told you so.-

I ignored Reivi, and I took a bite out of it's head. Memories welled up in place of the meat sliding down my throat. I puked it out.

"RRRRRRRAAAAA!!" I growled with clenched teeth as my skin started burning and my heart throbbed in pain.

-Calm down!-

Reivi suddenly stood in front of me.

-Please!-

I ripped out his throat spilling blood on him but he just stood there, completely still.

-Let out your anger. It would destroy us both if it was simply bottled up for ever.-

Despite the blood hurriedly pouring out of where his throat should be, I understood every word.

-Let your anger flow out. Don't let this rage turn you into a monster.-

I'm not a monster!

-Then stop acting like one.-

I held no restraint and unleashed all my anger on him, mutilating him whilst he just looked at me with kind eyes.

After tiring out, Reivi was nothing but a bloody mess in front of me, and I once again am reminded of the monster I truly am, both before and now.

-It's okay, I'm here for you.-

I just killed you, aren't you angry in the slightest?

-I'm sure the dirt is very sad at what you did.-

I felt tears welling up in my eyes-

"AAAAAAHHHHH" I screamt in pain as the tears fell down my cheeks, it felt as if boiling oil was being poured on my face. My body felt weak. Damn legs stopped working.

Is this retribution?

-Grief is a powerful emotion. One you now possess in spades.-

What do you mean grief?

-Usually being under lots of stress can make some people go mad but if you survive that stage, you start to gain an increased performance in dexterous activities or an increase in senses.-

Why the pain then?

-Look in the mirror-

I don't have a mirror!

Still in pain, I crawled over to a polished shield and saw the perversion staring back at me. My dull sky eyes were now a much more vibrant blue with a black sclera and red lines going down my cheeks like roots threatening to take over my face. My hair, no longer blonde but white-grey and my pale skin was beginning to take a green hue. I saw how my nails had elongated into claws.

-This is you. You would do well to not deny that.-

No!

I grabbed a rock and smashed it against my face only to see the stone crush in my palm. Frustrated, I took another stone to hit my face with, only for it got crushed against my face.

-Yes you are ugly, but you are also really hard to kill.-

Shut up, I never asked for this. I just asked for a peaceful life with my wife. Can I not get that!?

-In a world like this? No.-

I will kill the monsters that took this away from me.

-You already did.-

I mean the gods. They think they can kill me off after killing my wife? After all I did for them? I will slaughter every last one of them.

-What makes you think they did this?-

Those trolls were too well equipped to just be bandits, and only the gods know about this place.
