《Vampire's Beginnings》Chapter Fifteen

The sight I saw was horrible. I could hardly move or even think enough to breath. I was on the verge to faint. The place was completely trashed and the smell of blood filled my nose. At the corner of my left eye was an image of a man laying behind the island with only his legs visible at the moment. David had gone to investigate while he called someone on his cell phone.
I slowly walked to the kitchen. It was defiantly a place of a huge fight, a battle in a war. But, it wasn’t who I thought it was behind the island. I was halfway relieved and halfway crushed. Pieces of a royal blue hoodie peaked through the rusty color of blood. I wanted to break out screaming, but shock froze every muscle in me.
“Leah!” David said and then I was back in his car just outside of my house. I was so confused. What the hell happened? I swear we walked into my house and I found Jack dead, “You fell asleep on me.”
It was all just a dream? But, it felt so real. I sat there staring at David trying to make sense of everything. I saw worry in his eyes as he watched me. What was happening to me.
“You look like you saw a ghost,” David pointed out. I just shook my head as I rubbed my eyes. I still couldn’t shake the images of my dream, “You want to talk about it?”
“Later,” was my only reply before I climbed out of David's car. I was trying my best to recover from the memory of my dream. Debating if I should talk to him about it, or just let it go. This was the second nightmare I had in the past two months. I could just be overwhelmed over all that was going on. All of the information that I've been taking in could just be stressing me out and causing my nightmares. But a part of me couldn't believe that lie I was telling myself.
I ended up telling David the moment we entered my house. Tears were falling from my eyes by the time I was done. Making David wrap his arms around me in a comforting way. He didn't say anything until I was ready, but he did lead me into the living room. Placing me onto the couch.

“What does all of this mean?” I asked him after he pulled away. He looked at me like he knew what was going on. It was clear that he was debating whether to tell me or not about what was going on, “Explain, because you obviously went through all of this already.”
“Not like you are right now. I’ve only seen Emily die because that was what lead to my death,” he explain with confusion in his voice. Then something clicked in his mind. He looked at me with shock in his eyes, “No.”
He ended up standing up and pulling his cell phone out of his pocket. Instantly making a call. David headed towards the door as he started to speak Romanian over the line. Making me follow close behind him.
“David, what the hell is going on?” I asked as he was about to go out of the door and towards his car. I wanted to know what was going on. Something was obviously wrong and I wanted to be a part of this twisted loop.
“Lock your doors and don’t go anywhere,” he ordered as he got into his car. And, with that he was gone. I was left alone only to do what David had told me to do.
After locking all of the doors and windows in the house, I headed back into the living room. My mind raced as I tried to figure out why David reacted the way he did about my dream. But there was nothing I could do until someone decided to come over and explain things to me. Laying down on the couch, I decided a small nap wasn't going to hurt while I waited. But as soon as I got comfortable and closed my eyes, the door bell rang.
I groaned as I sat up on the couch. Glaring at the door hoping that whoever was on the other side would just leave. It didn’t work since the door bell went off again. Complaining to myself, I headed for the front door. The person I saw on the other side of the door after I opened it was not someone I expect.
“Hey, my name is Eric. David sent me here,” he said in a deep voice. Erik had short black hair and black eyes. His face was slender and a lip ring rested on the right side of his bottom lip. He even had some tattoos covering his arms.

Part of me wanted to believe him and invite him in. But David left without explaining anything so I hesitated. Anyone could say that they were sent to watch over me and be part of Donny's family. Erik must have seen my hesitation making him pull out his cell phone and showed me the text message from David, "I can call him too if you want."
“That's okay. You can come on in,” I told him.
Paranoia made me take a look outside to make sure no one was around. Whether they were enemy or friend. For some reason a part of me didn't want Derik know that I had a guy alone in my house with me. It was a dumb thought but I couldn't help but think it. Funny that having David here, I didn't have that problem.
I closed the front door and joined Erik in the living room. He was seated on the couch already watching TV. It was like he’s been here before instead of his first time. I ended up sitting on my father’s old beaten up brown lazy boy in the corner. I wanted to sit as far away from him as possible. Still not trusting him completely.
I heard the different channels as Erik surfed through them, looking for something worth his time to watch. Part of me want to point out that he could save time and go through the guide instead of going channel by channel. But I remember my grandparents doing something similar and the annoyance quickly turned into comfort.
“Erik?” I asked. He slightly glanced at me and then went back to the TV, “Do you know what is going on?”
“I’m as clueless as you are,” he answered straight out as he continued his search through channels, “I’m not a true Seadonna. I have Gene V, but I’m kind of in between. I’m blood bonded to Boss making me have to follow David’s orders because it's what he wants. I’m just a low rank royal guard even if it’s not in my blood.”
“Boss? You mean David's dad John?” I mentioned.
“He is the original royal guard of the king of our family but I'm sure that you already know. Since the king is dead, a new generation has to take over,” Erik explained as he gave up the search and turned of the TV. He ended up playing with the remote with boredom as he explained, “That would be Ricky. Honestly, I’m amazed that Boss ranked him the second strongest since he is so gentle and nice. I can see why Ashley married him. It‘s hard to believe that he can even fight”
Erik then trailed of in his thoughts and was quiet for the rest of the time until David had returned with Derik and Ricky. I was actually surprised that Derik was willing to be around David with out a fight. I could sense the tension between them when Derik came up to me and gave me a gentle kiss on the lips. Making the guilty feeling show it's little presence.
Erik walked up to David to see what his next order was, or I at least I assume that was what he was doing. They exchanged some Romanian words before Erik went outside with Ricky. David took over Erik's spot on the couch. Making Derik glare at him.
Grabbing tightly onto my hand, Derik pulled me towards my bedroom. I really hope one day these two would get a long but I don't think that would be possible. Not as long as they both had strong feelings towards me. I remembered Ricky mentioning that they see it as a challenge to see who got the girl in the end. Part of me wants David to win because it felt right. But the other part told me to at least give Derik a chance since no one else has.
Before I knew it we were in my room and Derik pulled me into a loving embrace. He held on like he was scared that I was going to disappear. This was something that he never really did unless something was troubling him.
"Derik, what is wrong?" I asked him. Only to have him squeeze me tighter.
For a second I was starting to think that he wasn't going to answer me, then he whispered, "You are like Nanna."

A Nation of Distances (possibly a dystopian love story)
Michael lives in a toxic macho world with extreme male hierarchy. When he gets a weird rating that makes his place even more problematic he's forced to choose a fiancée at a Wife School, and he slowly discovers more about the other side of the great divide between the sexes in The Nation. If only the world would stop being so complicated... On the other side there's Megan, who's more interested in books than in marriage, and the unpredictable Eliza who seems to have a connection with Micheal already. Will they be able to cross the distance and become friends against all the rules of their own world, or will they just be crushed? Are positive relationships between men and women even possible? And is there a way to change the world or is that just a naive thought of a silly wimp? 'A Nation of Distances' is a slightly dystopian dialogue-heavy drama set in a low sci-fi future setting about the war between the sexes, disconnect and friendship. The genre will fluctuate in between more slice-of-life parts and soft sci-fi drama with possible romantic elements, with alternating lead and switching perspectives once more of the main characters are established. Content Warning: Certain concepts and scenes might be disturbing and/or triggering to some, even though the story itself won't be extremely heavy most of the time. Sexism as a double-edged sword destructive to both sexes is an important part of the story, but so is friendship.Note that all descriptions of persons and places are purely fictional and made up by the writer, and any resemblance with anything in the real world is a coincidence, since the real world is not supposed to be dystopian anyway!

Choices of the Magicless Son
I had an ability that allowed me to watch everyone. I narrated everything I witnessed. To who? To whichever being that's listening to my thoughts right now. I have a gut feeling you're there. Erik Spearhand was born from one of the many concubines of the current human emperor. The boy was insignificant. He was the only one in the whole world who couldn't use magic. And yet, his choices impacted everyone. I had seen every sort. Powerful mages who could kill with a thought. Monster people who had their own history among human and beastman civilization. And even what I presume are time travelers. Those mess with my head. And still, the magicless son was the most formidable of them all. Of all of us.
