《Vampire's Beginnings》Chapter Fourteen

I stared at David shocked to by what he said. Waiting to see how telling the truth would have such an outcome.
"When I told Emily, she didn't take it well. She called me crazy and ran away from me. I remember her driving off in her car calling me a freak," David continued his story, "Being the idiot I was, I went after her. She ended up running a red light and got into an accident. But sadly, she was able to barley crawl out of the car before Donny got a hold of her and right in front of me, he killed her."
"Knowing that it would hurt you," I finished for him. He nodded his confirmation with thin lips.
For the past few months, everyone has been trying to make me understand everything. But for some reason it is just not sinking in. Probably because it is something that is hard to believe. Ashley was mostly in charge of teaching me the basics and I think I was starting to get her frustrated. Probably the reason why I was talking to David now.
The one thing I was sort of starting to get was the different positions in the family. I got that Ricky was the head of the family. David's dad, John, was the advisor or something like that. David was the head of the family guard and Mike was his second in command. The relations in the family is where I struggled the most.
"I get that Donny is Ricky's brother, but why is he the way he is exactly?" I heard myself ask David.
He let out a heavy sigh because this was a conversation that has been said at least ten times before, “Donny was supposed to be the head of the family, but Ricky was given the position instead. No one knows why, but Donny flew off the handle and killed his own father in cold blood. Of course, the punishment for doing that is death, but Ricky couldn’t do it. He ended up banishing Donny instead," David answered, “The winner of the war is who ever has the family that is the last one standing.”

"Why was Ricky given the position instead of Donny? Wouldn't all of this have been avoided if Donny was just made the head of the family?" it made sense to me, but to David I might as well suggested that a dead king should be the head of the family.
"None of this could be avoided. Donny would still go bad and Ricky will still be the head of the family. Donny had a darkness to him that even his mother ended up dying to get away from it," David explained, "One downside to Gene V is that if a mother is to have twins, one is to be mostly good while the other is mostly evil. It has always been like that and we aren't sure the reason why."
This whole Gene V thing made my head hurt. It was just hard for me to grasp. Just last week, Ashley tried to explain the whole soulmate thing to me. Or, how every Seadonna had one person in the world only meant for them. It was a little far fetched, but she seemed to believe it because she had Ricky.
David's phone suddenly rang, making me jump a little bit. He let out a small chuckle as he answered his phone. He spoke in that language I never understood and I now knew that he only used it if he didn't want me to hear something. It kind of got annoying and made me curious. I have got to learn what language that is and learn it.
"What language were you just speaking?" I asked after he hung up his phone.
"Romanian," he responded as he started to get up and fold his chair, "And it is time for us to leave. Jake is finally free from whatever he was doing and he demands to see you."
That sounded so much like Jake. He was probably ready to tell me all that they made him do, complaining about every minute he had to endure.
"Leah, I still need to tell you the crazy thing and you aren't going to like hearing it," David mentioned as I got up and folded my chair. Making me look at him, “You’re a pure blood. A first generation of Gene V. Something that rarely ever happens anymore. But you are special. You can change who ever you want into one of us. Our blood is usually poison to anyone who doesn’t carry Gene V, unless it is your blood they have contact with. The last person with that ability was Ricky’s father and he still killed some people with his blood. Only a hundred percent pure blood that has no interfere of time can do it perfectly.”

“I can change who I want?” I was confused now and couldn't quite understand what he was trying to say.
“Gene V works in mysterious ways. But, it is usually passed down the family tree if a person likes it or not. Reason why Jared refuses to date anyone that has it. He’s hoping that it will just die out,” David answered. Wait! Jared is one of them?! How?!
“Jared is my cousin. His mother is my father’s little sister. She left the family in hopes to get away from the war, but her son is torn between being one of us or being normal,” David answered as if he read my mind. I was still shocked by the news, “As long as his blood doesn’t get in contact with Ricky’s, he should be fine.”
"What happens if it comes into contact with Ricky's?" I was dying to know.
"He becomes one of us," and with that David headed through the words towards the path that we walked on to get here. I just stared at his retreating form, trying to process what I had just learned. Jared was a Seadonna and it made me wonder if he knew as much about the family as they have told me. The only way to know was to ask him but he was getting married in just a matter of days, so he was too busy to even talk to on the phone.
Eventually I caught up with David and we started to head back to his car. He wasn’t going to explain anymore. The rest, he said, was something I just had to find out on my own. While we walked in silence I thought about everything I was told and tried to make sense of it. I was confused, but I also felt like I had finally found my place.
“David?” I heard myself say as we neared his car. He looked at me as we continued walking, “What’s with the black and red?”
David laughed a little as he hit a button on his keys to unlock the doors to his car. I think he even shook his head as he headed for the driver’s side, “That’s like me asking you ‘what’s with the black and blue?’, but every Seadonna favors a color with black. But, not all of the time since Mike’s wife favors pink and purple the most. It really doesn’t mean anything, but your dad sure has an odd obsession with the color green.”
“I’m even baffled by it,” I said smiling from ear to ear as I got into the passenger seat. I placed my seat belt in place as David started the car, “Thanks for bringing me out here David. I know I don't make things easy for you."
David smiled at me as we pulled out of the parking lot. But he didn't say anything else. We both knew that my words had a double meaning in them. The guilt still won't leave my heart or my mind. As we headed back to my place a small feeling began to form in my gut telling me that something bad was about to happen. I just wish I knew what it was.

For he is the man who started all of this." This is a story no man in Lumenter will ever hear, no man except for an Arnesen, for his stories are dull and generic to the ears of the masses, except for us, because he is the very reason why our people traveled this far east, why kingdoms in Erisgi fell and rose, why I... even existed in the first place. Unique Fusion Magic Hex
World Essence. The mysterious energy coursing throughout the entire land of Vor'ten, and very possibly the entire world. This energy has allowed humanity to flourish, building great empires and vast kingdoms, conquering nature itself with just a sweep of their hand. Humans were the strongest existence, and with the help of channeling this World Essence, many were able to turn into Magic Knights, gaining magical abilities to combat the various fierce beasts throughout the lands.Alas... those glory days of old were long gone. Humanity has now been pushed to the brink of destruction, and now the remaining members of the human race are encased within giant domes known as 'Alkkras', made with the last remaining bits of the World Essence. It was said that those giant domes were the last gifts left by the remnants of the ancient human race, as a means to protect the future generation from the attacks of the many wild beasts roaming outside. Five Spiritualist Invokers, all combined together, used the last bit of the World Essence and sacrificed their lives to lay a gigantic, 1028-seal formation magic array to form these barriers, forever saving humanity, but also trapping humanity within these barriers. However, the humans were never completely helpless. No matter how little World Essence was left, the humans still had some remaining. Realizing the incoming crisis, the humans found a way to seal World Essence inside a special type of crystal. Soon, these crystals began to become implanted into weapons, turning them into World Essence Weapons, and they began to display properties of their own. Extreme heat. Bone chilling cold. Absurd sharpness. These normal weapons, after being imbued with the energy of the World Essence Crystals, began to form natural affinities to elements. Fire. Water. Earth. Wind. Darkness. Light. Using these weapons, one could become a Chevalier that wielded the power of the elements. However, if one wanted to reach a higher level of enlightenment and understanding, one could become an Invoker. Via the study of magic array formations, one could directly use the power of the World Essence to cast devastating magics upon the enemy. These people were Invokers, highly valued for their combat potential by the Army. These weapons and magical arrays were used in the great fight between the humans and the beasts long ago. They had long since been put away in storage, almost long forgotten...However, after ten-thousand years of suppression, the human race is beginning its counterattack against the Beasts... Synth was an Invoker in the Magecroft Academy. However, his talent was terrible, being only at the Spark Stage. This led to him being looked down upon and bullied. He was unable to cast any Calamity-rank or even Destruction rank spells, and was only able to cast Coalescing rank spells at the age of 17, a record low in the academy for cultivating these rare Invokers. Even though he put in more effort than anyone else, he was still unable to advance his Channeling Energy. But due to his constant research and study, Synth ended up creating a power that would go against the heavens - he had found how to Fuse spells together. After trying it out once, merging the magical array for the Small Fireball and the Mortal Judgement skills, he was able to create a mid-rank Destruction tier spell, Holy Judgement Flame. However, after this, no matter how hard he tried, he was unable to fuse more spells together or even cast them, and noticed a weird, pentagram shaped formation on his left arm. He would later call this mark the Fusion Magic Hex, a curse that prevented the wielder from casting magic that wasn't their own...This meant that with the exception of Synth's newly created skill, , he was going to have to create unique magic arrays if he ever wanted to step on the path of becoming an Invoker! This power that destroyed the laws of the Invoking System, and his unyielding persistence in testing and creating new spells, would later gain Synth the nickname the Unique Fusion Hex, and lead him to become one of the strongest beings in the entire World!
