《The Novel's Unifier》Chapter 14 - Golden Sword (2)

Danny swung it, hearing the sound of a clean cut. It was surprising, since the blade was meant to be dull. Danny brought his fingers along the edge of the blade, feeling a very dull edge.
Danny left the room, after registering himself taking the weapon. Every student was on a platform that was raised off of the ground, with Sun standing, all alone, on one. Danny moved over to him.
"A Tachi," Sun greeted, looking down at Danny. "It's an interesting choice, though I heard that you used a western weapon. I'll only defend, so come up."
Danny walked up the steps, passing onto the stage. Once he did, there was a barrier that appeared. It became transparent to the point that he wasn't sure if it was there.
"As I said, I will only defend your attacks. So, please, don't worry and attack me." He put up his arms, looking through the gap between each.
Danny nodded, then began walking closer, one hand on the handle. He held it by his waist, inside its sheath. He stopped, in front of Sun, closing his eyes. 'If Sun said that he wouldn't attack, he really wouldn't, right?' Danny thought to himself.
Swiftly, Danny drew his blade, bringing it in a wide circle. Sun dodged it easily, only leaning back.
"Good strike, but it took too long to do," he said. Danny curved his strike upward, then brought it down, in one, almost smooth stroke. "That one was a surprise," Sun admitted, lightly pushing it away from himself. The loss of balance nearly brought Danny to the ground. "Again."
Danny grinned. "One more." He wanted to strike another time. Then, another time, and another. Eventually, his practised motions descended into wild strikes. "Once more," he called, swinging his blade again.

"Gladly," Sun replied, preparing himself. This time, Danny stopped his relentless attacks, sheathing the sword once again.
Danny calmed himself, keeping all other thoughts away. Except for how to cut. Cut, cut, cut, cut. That's all he wanted. Just to cut him, once.
And so, he swung. Predictably, Sun dodged the first strike, easily, then the second, but the third caught him on surprise.
Just when the blade, after being brought down, passed by his chest, Danny leaped forward. The sword almost touched his clothes, but, just like his other attacks, Sun dodged it by turning his body. The blade followed by turning around, still heading downward. It was just at a different angle.
Unexpectedly, Sun kicked the blade to the ground, stopping the momentum entirely. Before Danny could even register what happened, a fist was heading towards his head. It was stopped right in front, though.
The wind that went past was startling, as his own hair was being flung backwards. Danny could see Sun's wide, dangerous smile that seemed to be saying, 'I'll eat you.' It was scary, yet Danny couldn't stop his own smile being brought out.
Sun coughed, bringing his hand down, away from Danny. "Class will now end!" he yelled. Danny only then realised how loud the Sparring Platforms were, but the sound slowly diminished. "Hand the sword over," he ordered, holding out his hand. Danny did what he asked.
"Thank you, teacher," Danny said, bowing. Sun shook his head, though, as he hid his smile.
"No, thank you," he replied. "It's been a while since I was that riled up. Although, it's still amateurish, and not very polished. But, keep it far from the last one. It's very different from the style your siblings use, though. Now, scram, the lot of you!" Danny was the only one grasping for breathe.

"Looks like he's nothing much," a voice whispered, although Danny didn't see who said it. That one comment started more whispering.
"He isn't that strong," another commented.
"Maybe I could beat him."
"That seems easy."
"Isn't he an embarrassment to the Royal Family?"
"Shh! Do you know what he would do if he heard you?"
"But, it's true."
"I heard you," Danny whispered, looking to the ceiling. 'But, soon, I'll catch up to you,' he thought to himself. To him, the ceiling was only an obstacle that he would overcome, no matter what. "Right, I can do that." Danny took out his phone, looking for Monster part sites.
They were rather common, as different Hero's used them to sell off their loot. And with Hero's being one of the most popular jobs, there was a surplus of loot acquired.
Thinking nothing of it, Danny bought two F+ ranked Monster corpses. It went through. Danny thought it would have needed a pin, but that seemed to be replaced by a facial scan.
Danny also looked through the Item page, looking for a Poison Resistance Item. Preferably, he was hoping for one that didn't stand out too much. Like something that can go under his clothes, a necklace, shoes, or a ring. Or, just maybe, a pair of earrings that could detoxify against C- rank at most. He bought the last one, not even looking at the price. Then, Danny left for his next class, smiling to himself.
Danny found out that his next class was for elective's, which he had not picked yet. Therefore, it was basically free time for him.
He chose to sit on a bench, stoically watching the scenery. He sipped on some coffee he had bought earlier.
He was an avid coffee drinker before he was brought here, yet the coffee in this place was very different. He stopped drinking it after the first sip, frowning. He was halfway to pouring out the contents when a group of girls and boys appeared in front of him.
"Would you like to join our club!?" one girl asked, handing a flyer while bowing in a perfect 90-degree angle. Danny took the flyer, looking it over.
It was for a cooking club. Danny didn't remember any club like this in the novel, so he asked, "What do you do?"
The leading girl must have been happy about the answer, as she explained it brightly, "We mainly just cook different food. Although, we do try and cook food that has been lost through the Info-Wipe. It's tough to find the ingredients."
Danny pondered her request for a minute. "Sure, I'll join." Danny ended up agreeing, mostly because, with all the food tasting different, he wanted to taste food he knew about.
"Yay!" they all cried in celebration. Danny could see some of them crying.
"Thank you," said the girl who handed out the flyer. "Our club was about to be shut down, so thank you! Thank you very much!"
Danny didn't know how to act. "It's fine, really. This might be a weird question, but does this club run during elective hours?"
The girl nodded her head, trying to hide her tears. "Yes, it does," she said. "I'm Sarah."
"August," Danny replied. It still felt weird to him, calling himself a different name.
