《Questline: Our Second Chance In Another World》Chapter 5: Abilities

It appeared to Brandon that everyone wanted to stay in the same party, so he decided he'd finally explore the Guild category. When he opened this category another white box appeared with a white button in the middle that said "Create Guild". Brandon was curious, but he knew from playing video games that guilds were a much bigger deal then party's, and he didn't think his little group was quite ready for that yet.

Brandon decided to assign his stat points, but then he had a thought. “If we are a party, and this world is like a game, then we want to make sure our party is balanced.” It was pretty obvious what roles Ava and Cass should play, but the roles for himself, Tenjin, and Felix weren't quite as clear.

“Okay you guys team meeting time.” Brandon said excitedly. “Time to go over our party strategy!”

The others could hear the excitement in Brandon's voice. He sounded a little childish; like he couldn't wait to play with a new toy, but that was exactly how the rest of them felt too. They all wanted to show off a little to their new allies, so they decided to have a strategy meeting to go over their abilities and see what role they would each play on their new team.

Everyone sat on the ground in a circle while Brandon picked up a stick and begun drawing in the dirt. He drew two x's.

Okay, so in the back of the formation we should probably have Ava and Cass in the back since they are our long-distance attackers. Cass, you have a bow, but do you have any other abilities we should know about?”

Cass turned her head towards Brandon and began to speak. “No none at the moment. If we level up I might be able to get some, but I don't know. Right now, all I can do is shoot this bow, and I can command Cillian. He's not going to be an incredibly effective fighter though. His stats are pretty low. His strength, constitution, and agility are all 5, and his HP is 25. He also doesn't have the magic or stamina stat, and is incapable of using any abilities.”

“Okay, so you definitely stay in the back, and you can probably have Cillian serve as a distraction and run interference. “ Brandon stated. “What about you Ava? I assume because of your higher magic stat, and your equipment you’re probably a spell caster.”

Now it was Ava's turn to speak. “Yes, apparently because of my bloodline I know a few basic tier 1 spells. All of them are nature-based thought, and I only know one attack spell.” She explained. “It's called vine whip.”

Right then both Brandon and Tenjin chuckled.

“What?” Ava asked a little embarrassed wondering what was so funny.

So, you’re a grass type then?, Tenjin said while still laughing under his breath.

“Yeah, so what about it?” Ava asked a little irritated with the two boys trying to figure out what was so funny about the name of her spell.

“Don't worry about it.” Brandon said while trying to regain his composure.

“Okay fine, what ever!” She retorted still a little irritated and confused by their laughter. “Anyways I can also use a wind spell called gust, and a light conjugation spell called summon small woodland creature.”

This time Brandon was the one to say something. “Oh, so you're a grass, and flying type as well. That's a rare combination, especial for a starter. Do your woodland creatures include a small green dinosaur with a bulb on its back, a small pigeon that shoots out gusts of wind with its wings, or a small owl that spits seeds at people?”

Tenjin and Brandon both couldn't help but continue laughing, and much to everyone else's confusion they had no idea what was so funny. They others just continued to give Brandon and Tenjin funny looks while they continued laughing.

“I'm starting to get a little irritated here. Would someone explain to me what's so funny!?” Ava said while glaring at gorge Brandon, and Tenjin while crossing her arms.

“Sorry, sorry.” Brandon said while still laughing a bit. It's just both of those spell remind us of moves from a game that's popular in both Japan and the U.S.

“Okay.” said Ava. While she was still a little irritated she decided to let it go. There was obviously something funny about what she said, but she wasn't going to try to dig too deeply into it. They still had to figure out what they were doing after all. “Anyways, you're right Brandon. I should probably stay in the back, and avoid fighting directly. I should probably focus on strengthen my magic while Cass focuses on her agility and strength to improve her archery.”

“Good idea.” Brandon said with great enthusiasm in his voice. “What about you guys, Tenjin and Felix?”

“I think I should focus on strength, and agility.” Said Felix with confidence in his voice. “My weapons are gauntlets, and this gi should give it away. I'm meant for martial arts, which means I gotta be strong and fast. My defense might suffer a bit, but I'll make up for it by avoiding enemy attacks. Oh, and apparently I have the ability to turn my arms into demon claws which will increase my strength, so there's that too!”

Brandon was impressed by Felix's decision. All though he didn't know Felix that well he seemed like the more temperamental one, so being a fast moving, hard hitting attached seem perfect for him. However, Brandon wasn't sure whether his temperament was just his personality, or the result of his demonic bloodline.

“As for me.” Tenjin interjected. “I think I should focus on defense, and on improving my magic and strength. I have access to Divine Magic, which is apparently unique to those of angelic bloodlines. It allows me to cast divine spells, but the only one I know is lesser divine ward which soaks up some damage.

Felix then put his hand in the air. “Oh, I can also use demon magic, but the only spell I know is Hellfire. It's a first-tier magic attack that overcomes fire resistance.”

That was the second time Brandon had heard someone mention the phrase tier 1 spell. He then looked at both Ava, and Felix. “What is a tier 1 spell exactly?” He asked them both while turning his head to make eye contact with both of them while waiting for an answer.

Ava decided to be the one to explain it. “Well, the easiest way to explain it is we know there are up to 5 tiers of magic so far. At level 1 spell casters only have access to the first tier of spells, or tier 1 spells. To gain access to higher tiers we're going to need to level up more.”

“You could have asked me that you know!” Trinity said while frowning at Brandon. “This is why you have me, so I can answer those kinds of questions.”

“Oh, sorry Trinity.” Brandon said. “I got a little caught up in the conversation, and didn't really think about it.”

“I guess I'll let it slide this once.” She said with her back turned and arms still crossed. She then turned her head towards Brandon. “But next time if you want to know something ask me first!” She demanded.

“Okay Trinity, you'll be my go-to-girl next time I want something about this world explained to me okay.” Brandon said apologetically.

Trinity didn't say anything, but she smiled, and turned her head back around.

“Okay!” Brandon began standing up, then started speaking again. “Now that we all know what everyone else is doing I've decided. I'm going to go for a more balanced approach to my stats. I'll be a jack-of-all-trades and master-of-none, but I'll become and adaptable fighter with a trick for any given situation. I'll also being able to assist with any role you guys need my help with, so I think it'll work out perfectly.” He turned his head to make eye contact with everyone in the group. “Sound good to everyone!?”

“Yep!” They all said in response.
