《Questline: Our Second Chance In Another World》Chapter 4: The System

The group all stood in a circle, and nobody was sure exactly what to say to each other. They all had a lot to take in. They had compared stories to one another, and found they all had one thing in common. Each of them believes they likely died in their world, but then came back to life in this one. However, some of them were no longer human, or they were human but had something else mixed in too.
Felix was a German soldier who had died on the battlefield on his first mission in Eastern Europe, and Tenjin was a Japanese police cadet in Tokyo on probation who had died in a shooting with an armed terrorist group. These two also appeared to have opposing bloodlines with Felix being part demon, and Tenjin being part angel, however, even though they both knew this neither of them felt any hostility towards the other.
After a while Brandon suddenly broke the silence. “So, all of us died in our world, and ended up here. We all have different starting equipment, but that doesn't seem to be effected by our stats directly. Our special rewards seem to impact the stat distribution at the start with certain bloodlines favoring certain stats, but still why the different equipment?”
The rest of the group looked like they were just as puzzled as Brandon was, but then he looked at Cass and remember something she had said. She was an expert archer, and a bow hunter, so her starting equipment, and even her special reward made sense. Maybe Felix being a soldier, and Tenjin being a police cadet had something to do with their bloodline rewards. Also, Ava had said she worked in a library. Maybe since her profession was centered more around knowledge she was given a bloodline that has to deal with magic. It was a pretty common trope for wizards and magic users to be more intellectual, and enjoy reading more, but where does that leave Brandon?

He just finished college earning a degree in business. You'd think he'd be a merchant or something if that was the case. Maybe since he was unemployed when he died he was randomly assigned a special reward and starting equipment, or maybe all of this was random and the others just got lucky and got rewards that fit their backgrounds.
Ultimately, none of them had the answer, so they decided that the best thing they could do was to share information, and try to learn as much as they could from each other.
They all decided it was a good idea for them to explore their character profile and compare them so they could all get a better feel for them system, and what they were capable of.
Everyone opened up their character menus, and began looking at the magic/abilities tab. When Brandon opened his up there wasn’t anything written in that section. He noticed that Cass looked pretty disappointed, so she probably didn't have anything written there either, but the others looked excited. It looked like they were reading intently, and it sounded like they were all mumbling something.
Cass had appeared to move on to something else in the character menu, but Brandon started to think to himself. “If only there was a way I could look at their character profiles. I don't need to see the whole thing, but if I could just see the profile page I could probably learn a lot more than just what they are telling me.”
Suddenly Brandon heard a ping sound, and noticed that an extra tab appeared on the far-right side of the character menu. The tab said "Friends List".
“Friends List!” Brandon thought to himself. “I just have to check this out.” He opened up the tab and saw the heading "Friends" with an arrow pointing to the right next to it. There were also two other categories right below it that said "Party" and "Guild" respectively with the same arrows. He decided to investigate these categories, but when he opened the Friends category a large white box with the words "No Friends" written right in the middle of it.

Brandon looked a little disappointed, and wondered how he could add the others to his friends list, or if that was even possible.
Suddenly a alert popped up on his menu sated "Would you like to send a friend request to these individuals?" All four of their names appeared below the alert, and Brandon thought to himself yes.
At that moment everyone else in the group had a startled look on their face. They all received the same message; "Would you like to become friends with Brandon Walker?"
Everyone turned their heads towards Brandon, and Tenjin was the first to ask. “Brandon, was that you who sent me this message?”
Brandon was a little shocked, but he looked at Tenjin and nodded. Brandon suddenly received another message. "Haruki Tenjin has accepted your friend request". After he received that message the message disappeared within a second, and Brandon could see Tenjin's name in the friends category. Afterwards the rest of the group accepted the request, and everyone else's names appeared on his friends list.
Next Brandon wanted to explore the Party category. He tried opening it up, and just like when he first opened up the Friends category there was just a blank box. Then he thought about sending the others a party invite, and the same startled looked appeared on everyone else's faces. Just like with the friend request everyone accepted the invite, and when Brandon looked again he saw his name on top with the words "Party Leader" under it, and everyone else's names with the words "Party Member” below each one of them.
After that second notification the others became curious, and Tenjin had to ask. “Brandon, how are you doing this?”
“Oh.” Brandon began to explain. “A new tab just appeared out of nowhere called the Friends List. It's on the far right. I was able to do everything from there.”
They all noticed the tab that had appeared. They were also so distracted looking at their stats and abilities that they hadn't noticed it appear. Suddenly everyone else began opening up their tabs, and saw Brandon Walker in the Friends category, plus they saw the same list that Brandon had seen under the Party Category. They all began to wonder how they could send out friend requests to one another when everyone started getting messages. Apparently when they all thought about sending each other friend requests they automatically sent them to each other. However, when they thought about sending party invites they all received the same message.
"Cannot invite to party. You, or the other person are already in one. Would you like to leave your current party and try again?"
They all saw the same alert, but they all decided to stay in the current party, mainly because they all thought if they left the party it would create confusion, or the others would get suspicious. They also all thought that Brandon might not be a bad person to lead the group, at least for now, since he technically was the one that brought them all together.

Starlight Antiquities
There is a place in the galaxy that deals in antiquities of all kinds, human and non-human alike. Its inventory of artifacts is colossal as is its inventory of mercs who they hire to acquire any artifact a client may wish that is yet to come into their possession. The ill-reputable business is constantly rubbing against the changing tolerance of the Union's government, and there are many security officers who would love nothing better than to vaporize the whole place with its owners inside. Yet, there are many tasks that nobody can do better, especially in the vastness of deep space where Union law is worth less than the energy needed to display it. One of its jobs involves finding an artifact that may not only hold the future of the human race but may also disturb the balance of the whole galaxy. *** While waiting for the next season of Mandalorian and the Witcher, and rewatching Firefly for the gazillionth of time, I decided to write this space-based series. The series has some litRPG elements in it, but it does not read like one. So, you won't run into any blue screens here. Yet, I wanted to use litRPG to give another dimension to this whole story and make it as unique as possible. This is a work-in-progress. Hope to keep on improving and fixing my mistakes as I go along.

Point of View
Adrian Shepherd is alive in Santa Monica. Successfully fleeing from the target zone of a nation-wide terroristic threat was not easy, nor did it come free. Now, he survives with broken memories chasing him. Confliction turns him from wanting to live and wanting to die. Guilt wretches him as he craves the forgiveness he can never have. Maybe tomorrow will bring a brighter day, or maybe more problems. **Cover Photo is Temporary** **I would say the story has light gore and traumatizing events, to the point that I originally didn't check the content warnings. Be advised.**
