*Four years later*

Two days from now, there will be a birthday celebration at Vaan’s house, that birthday is his 15th birthday now. Around Vaan’s house, many maids seem busy with the preparing for the big event for their young master, Vaan at the other hand busy preparing himself to give a speech to the audience who is coming for his birthday party.

“We need more meat and milk around here,” says the head chef.

“Let me go to town and buy some,” answer the other guy.

“That flower is not suitable for the event, please change it back,” says the head maid.

“Yes,” answer the other maids.

Around the house is very noisy and it seems many people compare to regular days. Vaan’s plan to go and meet his mother or father to ask for help in speech but it seems both of them is busy with other job and can’t help him this time.

Vaan steps to the outside of the house and tries to practice for his speech but it seems he can’t progress well in the practice. Doesn’t know what to do, Vaan tries to ask his spirit friend Varias for advice cause Varias is a spirit of knowledge and he might know and got some advice he needs this time. Calling upon the Varias, Vaan can see a little light fly around his body and he knows that is Varias in form of the light.

“Did you call me master?” ask Varias.

“Yes, I need your help to practice my speech for the incoming event.”

“Well, you came to right place for asking help this time, let us practice and I can pretend to be your audience.”

“But you just a light and it do not help giving me the same feeling Varias.”

Varias keep silence then suddenly several images of people appear in front of Vaan and Vaan shock because many people suddenly appear out of nowhere. Varias explain that those people just a shed of a fragment of the previous user of Varias power and it just an illusion that Varias can create.

“Now can you practice well this time?” asks Varias.

For 3 hours Vaan keeps practice his speech with the help of Varias and Vaan slowly build his confidence in talking in front of a crowd, that is thanked Varias because helping out Vaan in practice. Vaan takes a break after his throat feels dry due to talking nonstop for long period of time thus he takes a break.

“Say Varias, what are you really is?” asking Vaan in curios.

“Do you want to hear my stories kid?”

“Well, we have time to spend so why not if you want to share with me.”

Varias begin his stories by telling the origin of the spirit, from the earliest time there are only two major races on the planet which is spirit and demon. Spirit representing light and demon is darkness, thus in time the spirit king begin to giving life to other and create animals and the human race and other race, jealous to that creation demon also create a creature from the dark part of the planet which is born to the monster and undead.

The race which spirit king creates is a peaceful one but the demon creation is a hunger for blood, thus it begins to attack and kill other races. In order to protect that races from extinction, spirit king beg to the god to help him in that ordeal. The god replied by giving that creation of spirit king an ability to learn and evolve themselves, thus because of that gift they can manage to survive until one day the demon side creates a demon king which hold a tremendous power and can destroy anything.

The spirit king giving the order to the “Knowledge”, “Heart”, “Power”, “Magic” and “Body” spirit to go and find a suitable human to lend him their power in order to defeat that demon. That man who is chosen by those five spirits knows as “Hero.” The hero by the help of those five spirit fight with demon king and manage to kill the demon king after that balance has been restored to the entire world and as for the demon clan, they have been giving strict warning from about what have they done. After the battle, all five spirit which helps hero is separate and lost around the world.

“Are you not going to your home Varias?” Vaan ask.

“To return home, I need to gather all those spirits which are missing and only that I can open the gate.”

“So you are the key and other is batteries.”

“You can say like that if it helps you to understand better.”

“Vaan, I hope you can help me find my friend and help me to return home” begging Varias.

“I will help you because you have helped me much time before, it now my time to return the favor. But I find it hard to believe that you are the spirit that helps hero defeat the demon king.”

“Maybe now you can show me some respect right Vaan.”

“How can we find your friend in this large world? You have any idea?”

“The spirit tends to hang out around the place that high in mana, so if we can find that kind of place maybe we can find them there.”

“You mean the place where I find you, in the Forest Ruin?”

“Yes, the place like that, I hope you will prepare before heading to that kind of place ever again Vaan.”

After done talking, Varias return to Vaan’s body and disappear from sight. Vaan head to the inside of the house and he can find out that his house has been renovated as per suit the birthday event. His mother calls him and tells that she also has contact Media to come over during the party, Vaan is happy because Media will be coming to his birthday party. Media is Vaan’s first friend and she is very kind to Vaan, Vaan’s father come and also said that the princess also will come and celebrate together.

Vaan had a bad feeling about what will happen if Virtie and Media meet, but he also thinking about what his father talking about what he will do after his 15th birthday is coming. Eager to know Vaan head straight to his father room and asked his father directly.

In his father room, he finds out that his father is sleeping and can’t talk with him today. He is tired and Vaan doesn’t want to disturb his father sleep so he leaves him alone in that room.

“Well sooner or later I can find out about it, so no need to rush thing over.”

The next morning, Vaan woke up because he hears sound coming from the kitchen. After finish cleans up his body, Vaan is head to the kitchen and he can find out that a smoke and fire coming out from the kitchen. That incident is handled by his mother magic and the situation is calm for a moment, asking what just happen it seem the fire occur when the oven is overheating with fire magic.

Knowing there is not a big problem, Vaan takes a walk around the city with money got from his father to spend before the big event in his life. Vaan walking around when he arrives at the Media place, he heads in and can see that Media grandmother is service her customer, then the door is open again and from that door, Vaan can see a girl standing there and with a face look sad but happy.

He quickly recognizes that girl is Media, his friend from 4 year before; they have long not met each other and the last they separate is not in a very proper and due to that; they can even communicate from past 4 year long.
