《The Magical Workman》The Magical Workman Chapter 10: Actually Starting Classes

Needless to say won't be posting much in the next two weeks because of finals and other stuff, but after these two weeks are over it will shoot off.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
I turned around to see what I assumed was a teacher walk up to me.
“My god, how much magical power do you have little child”
“Umm I don’t know”
“Well….. Ok make sure not to hurt yourself or anyone else”
Said the teacher as he walked away with an expression of disbelief
I turned around once again only to find myself getting hugged by someone.
“I’m sorry I didn’t believe you”
Lilia said hugging me even harder.
“It’s fine, just please…… let me go”
I managed to squeeze out even though I could barely breathe.
“Well, what classes do you have? Are you in intermediate classes?”
Said Lilia as she pulled out her class schedule
I pulled out mine right after her and waalaa we both had the same exact classes.
“Cool how about we go to our first class together”
Lilia put her hand into mine and practically started to drag me forward in the direction of classes.
—————————————————————————————
We got to our first class shortly after. It was intermediate casting. Lilia and I sat down in some back row seats right next each other and chatted about home life a few minutes, waiting for our teacher.
Apparently her father was a high ranking noble of the Yiracan kingdom. She had four brothers, and two sisters, two brothers and both sisters were already at this academy.
I didn’t really learn anything else but I did talk to her about my family and living condition.
As we were talking students filed in occasionally filling up the rest of the seats, and a little bit later the teacher finally came in.

He was a tall fat man. Very greedy looking and greasy with sweat and human oils.
He didn’t teach us anything to today but talked about casting theory and magic theory and such.
Basically that’s how every one of my classes went that day.
Getting in with Lilia, talking a bit well waiting for the teacher, and listening to theory from the teacher. We didn’t actually learn anything whatsoever today.
My day ended with me going back to my dorm room and falling asleep
————————————————————————————-
The second day was almost exactly like the first minus the crashing pillar and it was in all honestly the most boring thing I ever experienced in both of my lives.
But then the third day we finally started to learn basic magic.
I got into class and sat down at a desk and saved the seat next to me for Lilia. She came, sat down, and we casually talked waiting for the teacher.
The teacher came through the door as the last of the students settled down in their seats.
This time though instead of talking about theory he told us to get into a meditative position on top of our desks.
“So what you need to is relax and feel for the mana inside your body, become one with the mana and when you do open your eyes to signify that you’re done. Most people won’t even get it well into their 20th time meditating so don’t worry about not feeling it today or even the next several times”
Honestly I wasn’t surprised when I immediately felt my mana pool as my mana pool was immensely massive, but other than me no one felt their mana pool all throughout that day (All our teacher made us meditate).
The fourth day however in casting class a few others broke through and became one with their mana pool. Even Lilia broke through, I was honestly happy for her and told her that, which made her blush deep red.

Instead of making us wait he made the rest of the meditators go to the back of the room well he taught us quietly in the front about magic casting.
In short most spells require a chant or a shortened chant, although there are some rare individuals that can use voice-less chanting, to use, as this allows the mana to shape itself into that spell in controlled amounts. If you didn’t use a chant or had voice-less chanting, you could still use the spell, but with the big risk it could go out of control, with small spells this wasn’t a problem but big spells could kill the caster absorbing all his/her mana or kill many other individuals that get caught in the spell.
He then taught us the most basic spells which didn’t require chanting, as they were too small to go out of control, but instead for us to imagine the spell in our minds.
He told us about a basic light spell, and a basic fire spell.
Needless to say it didn’t exactly work out when I tried it. Instead of a small lighter sized amount of fire that was supposed to happen, there was a fireball the size of watermelon in my hands that accidently got released and caught the classroom on fire, oopsie.

Usually to die or kill for others in strange and exciting places, but it's never certain what the next one will bring. It has its perks. With each new world comes a new story with new experiences and new lessons. There is always more to see, more to learn and more to know. Maybe, someday, it will all make sense. For now he will just work hard to become stronger, to be useful and, hopefully, survive that way. A coming-of-age story, but different. Things start to slow down to a crawl. Colors blur into one another until my vision is completely white. All I can think is "Shit, not this again!" I hate being summoned. _________________________________ updates once a week until I get more time The idea for this story began in two places. One was the ridiculously rapid pace of gaining power in many novels. Both in games and in novels, I enjoy the struggle of the beginning character, why always the rush? The other was the way many monster or non-human MCs always seem to hurry to become human (again). It always felt like a cheap way to grant the character extra powers without the difficulty of writing a non-standard thought process. Thus I wanted to write the slow(ish) progression of a monster character gaining strength and intelligence, while remaining distinctly non-human. There are no stats, xp or systems, no reincarnated soul or completely formed being to start with - unless I want to make fun of those. While the MC 'evolves', the process takes months if not years to proceed step by little step. Sit down with me and imagine, what would it be like if...
