《When Death walked the world》Chapter 4

Elder Coffin Dragon was having a nice rest upon a great balcony of sorts in the mountains of Trist. This mountain range spanned across the continent dividing it into two great segments. Though it was barren, many creatures of all shapes and sizes called it home. From the diligent dwarfs to the frost giants, and dragons.
This mountain range was standing in the way of the ever advancing demon hordes of the East. Cure Elim blinked as he awoke from his slumber.
"Hmm, the air. It has changed a lot since my last skirmish."
The smell of brimstone and smoke permeated the air, giving it a faint tint of grey.
"Hmm, whoever dares to intrude upon my domain? Have they forgotten their place?! Stupid mortals! I will show you!.. I will show you that you were right to fear!"
He roared mightily as he took flight from the cliff. An enormous shadow passed through the sky as he took aim at his destination. He flew to the area from where the pollution was spreading.
A great battle was taking place upon the clearing, which would be later known as Katze-plains. Thousands upon thousands of beast-men, and demi-humans were locked in mortal combat.
Behind the demi-humans the demons gave orders, the lower ranking ones even joining the struggle. Bones shattered, limbs were severed, and flesh was rended. The horrors of battle was full on display.
The dreadful battle quickly took its toll upon its participants. Though the demons and demi-humans had the advantage, the other side did not relent. They made up for their disadvantage in numbers with sheer brutality. Both sides had great losses and yet the battle carried on.
A mighty roar shattered the sky as a huge white dragon descended upon the battlefield. Some instantly recognized the new arrival, others not, but all had dumbfounded expressions upon their faces.
They fell to one knee, this was a Dragon lord. One of the strongest beings that ruled over all, no questions asked.
The long neck of the dragon nimbly carried the beast's head so it could oversee all of the plain.

The battle halted, even the savage demons froze in their track when they heard the beast's terrible, guttural voice.
"Enough, know your place vermin!"
A powerful wave spread across the field as every single beast-men, demi-human, and any other intelligent species present fell to their knees. Even the mindless recognized when their life was threatened. Many of the lower class monsters fled the site.
Something strange cut through the air, when a noise was heard.
A clap,
Then again,..
A clap,
Again and again, more and more applause was heard, the Dragon lord confused, elevated his sight so he could see that in the sky a peculiar demon was floating, supported by his dark red veined wings.
"Not bad, not bad. How about you join forces with me?" Said the demon with a smirk on his face.
"With strength like yours I could even make you a coordinator, so what say you?"The demon carried on, while he made a welcome gesture, his grin spreading ever wider on his visage.
The giant body of the dragon shook. The demon coordinators had mistook if as fear. Considering their commander's might it was a logical conclusion after all. Creepy smiles decorated their faces as they rubbed their palms in excitement. Then, their body froze.
"How dare, HOW DARE THIS WEAKLING REFER TO ME WITHOUT MY TITLE?! BLASPHEMY! I have to calm down and not jump to conclusions, maybe he is a clown of sorts. Yes, that makes sense, considering his carefree attitude. After all the world always kept changing, maybe it is a new trend of sorts… Then again, I am killing that vermin one way or another for disturbing my rest."
"Ha, haha-hah.. AHAh ah-ah-hah-ah." A forced laugh shook the ground, before the beast opened its mouth allowing those present to gaze at his rows of razor sharp teeth.
"Now – now, jester. Didn't think that you had such humour. I might even spare you." Just you wish.
"Oh? You think I am funny? Don't worry you overgrown lizard, I'll show your place soon enough. At my boots that is."

"Really? Aha-ha-ha-h. Then come, let me show you what true power is!"
"Such a shame, I could have used you as a captain, or even as the 5th coordinator, sadly I do not have anymore time to kill. So this is goodbye."
"What is this idiot thinking? Does he really think he can take me on? ME?!" Elder Coffin Dragon lord roared in his head, as an array of wild magic spells ran through his mind, wondering with which to end the pathetic existence before him.
Before he could come up with an answer a black void encompassed his being threatening to swallow him whole, should he not active his defense. He didn't waste a moment as he cast Wild magic: Soul steal on the demon.
To his dismay demons had no soul and thus his spell was rendered useless. Or was it? Hundreds of souls rushed to him, as the demi-human soldiers collapsed having their soul taken. Feeling the newly acquired power coursing through his veins he flashed a toothy grin as he kicked himself to the air before savagely swiping at his opponent with his claws.
The demon took the hits surprisingly well, however that would not last long as suddenly something indescribable happened.
…
The world lost its colors and the demon halted its movement as he looked around. The dragon though feeling something wasn't right kept on with his advances until when he felt a dark aura. An aura so dark, evil and powerful that his own presence felt like a spark in comparison to the blazing inferno of pure energy, that surrounded the mysterious being.
He backed away from the demon and took up a defensive position as he saw the figure slowly walking towards them on the horizon. Said figure was far away, even with his superior eyesight he couldn't distinguish much, other than the fact, that the new arrival held a golden staff in his right hand, and was garbed in priceless cloth.
Closer inspection revealed that he wore an intricate black gown adorned with invaluable gems that projected their magical might even from such a distance. He still didn't even enter the plain! Then as his eyes zoomed in, he felt something, something dark and terrifying, as the being raised its head and met his gaze with a burning stare of hatred. The white skull had a grin etched onto its unusually long surface as suddenly the being disappeared and the colors returned to the world.
The Demon God and the Dragon lord looked at each other shivering, as they recalled the feeling of total helplessness in the face of absolute power. Their battle did not continue after that, however both took separate ways as they thought hard on how to escape that mysterious figure.
Though they thought of him as a mystery, it was clear to them. It was obvious what they had seen. Death had given them a warning, a warning that should they continue on doing whatever they were doing displeasing him in the process, it would mean a gruesome end for them.
Elder Coffin Dragon Lord hid in the mountain range, where he started a new research into the mysterious being, as well as power. He thought hopefully, if only he could obtain that power for himself.
The Demon God leading the conquest had gathered his coordinators and called the battle off. While his enemies were cheering he thought at the back of his mind. "Just you wait, one day... One day, when that being is gone, I will… I will return." He along with his army of demons disappeared that day.
The remaining demi-human army was quickly overwhelmed, and turned to flee. The beast-men and the coalition of intelligent species won the battle that day. To this day the exact cause of the withdrawal of the demon commander remains shrouded in mysteries.

Cultivating Earth [Hiatus]
[This fiction is on indefinite hiatus. I'm currently acting as a 24-hour caregiver for my step-father who had a massive heart attack. I apologize for disappearing so quickly, but sometimes that's just life. I'll return as soon as possible. Sorry everyone!] Zhao Gang, after hundreds of thousands of years cultivating, has finally reached the penultimate threshold. He is ready to ascend to the level of True Immortal. Driven by the need for a place his enemies won't find him, Zhao Gang puts together an audacious plan. He has developed a revolutionary new formation which will allow him to ascend while on even the lowest planes. To avoid drawing attention, he has to choose a plane that is relatively desolate, however. He chooses Earth. Fast forward three thousand years. Zhao Gang discovers what his work has wrought - a cultivation-free culture that has delved the deep mysteries of creation - he can't help but think how this tiny little planet devoid of natural energy could affect the course of all creation. There's only one problem. For that to happen, he has to succeed in cultivating Earth. Notes: Chinese names should be ignored in the social context - they don't mean anything. Sorry for slaughtering such a beautiful tradition. This novel starts off slower than most. If the slow-roll isn't your thing, you might want to give this a pass. If it's not for you, I understand. Also, releases may be broken up into smaller chunks. The goal is 5k words, but definitely more than 4k. If you see a short release, be aware that more is probably coming. I'll be honest and say that I'm struggling with each new scene, if only because I want to balance the scope of vision with good pacing. I hope the work I put into it is worthwhile.
