《Nano Mage》Chapter 20 Life as an enchanter

My jaw drops the moment I return my gaze to the river, a large beast with rainbow wings, two heads, and a tail like that of a lizard is directly in front of me. It happened in a flash, the hatched in the mans hand was now whirling into the air, it sliced through the creatures two necks almost like it was a thin piece of bologna. The creature crashes to the ground. I was dumbstruck, there was no mana released from the man’s body, that action was purely skill.
The young man pointed to me and then signaled for me to approach the corpse. I followed his instructions. “This my boy is a chimera. Enchanters use their parts in their work. Their blood is the most crucial in our work. The blood is like ink, when writing certain designs, the blood reads them, then translates them into phenomenons. These wings here are used to make corrections to our work. From your appearance your origin is the Mythic continent, so to put it simply it is like a pencils eraser. We use the claws when working with metal. These claws allow us to create grooves, which we then pour the chimera’s blood, this stains the metal. Working with metal is harder simply because we are unable to make corrections in the design.” (Fascinating.) All of that was easy to follow, yet I was still left with one question. “What is the tail used for?” “Follow me.”
Having gathered each body part, I made my way inside his home. I was led to a huge cauldron. Under the cauldron a large fire had been lit. “Drop the tail in here.” My grip on the tail loosened, and with a plop it fell into the strange liquid. The red fluid soon became a deep golden color, and then shifted to a bright violet. The young man scooped up the liquid with a small cup. “Drink!” I was a little reluctant. (Could it be poison? How would it taste?) The first thought I really had no need to worry about, the nanobots would cure that, the second one I should have paid more attention to. I took a sip. “Yuck!”

Once my taste buds settle, I start to notice shapes forming in my mind. Triangles of different colors and sizes overlapped from all directions. A cube with a crescent moon in the upper right corner. If I remember correctly it is waning. Suddenly the images distort, and I see the blueprints for the nanobots. Withing those blue prints was a crucial flaw, but new images replace the blueprints, and I soon forget completely about them.
I was gently tapped on the shoulder. “I imagine you just seen a slue of imagery. Those are the foundation of enchanting. Every enchanter has their own personal images relayed to them, however we all witness the core of enchanted symbols as well. The core is basic shapes such as triangles, squares, and circles. Different colors and the way the shapes over lap are an important asset to an enchanter’s work.” (I see!) I would have spoke those words, but in the next instant I vomited instead.
The young man approached me with a warm wet cloth, then preceded to clean the vomit from my clothing. I could have just used magic, but somehow it seemed that cloth was more efficient at removing waste. I soon noticed the shapes dyed into the cloth. (Ah so that is why!) “This was my own personal creation. I made it during the time my wife and I had been raising our first son. Babies puck all the time, however my son had a strange obsession with only puking on my wife when she was dressed in formal wear. This led to a large expense in clothing. One day I had enough, and thought, there must be something to solve this problem. Being an enchanter I decided to find a way through enchanting. This cloth is the result.”
“So aside from the tail of the chimera, what else is inside the drink I just had?” “The only other thing is the chimera’s blood!” I had a hard time to believe that. Why would the blood simple change colors from the tail being added. They had the same source. I can understand the fire changing the color to an extant, yet the tail altered its color twice.

“I just realized, I never asked for your name. Mine is Sylphire, it is a pleasure to met you.” “They call me Curve.” Curve extended his hand, I shook it in turn. He had a strong grip, so strong in fact I could feel his heart beat through is wrist. “I have been assigned a task from the frozen lava region kingdom. They wish for me to create powerful armor and weapons. You will assist me!” There was no leeway in his tone. I had already singed up to work here, so even if a disagreed with something on a personal level, I had no right to refuse.
My hands were sore from engraving symbols on armor. It took me a while to adjust my strength so that the armor would not shatter. I played it off as the armor being of inferior quality. I did not need my mentor Curve question my very being. I got enough of that at school. I was able to follow Curve’s instructions to the letter. The nanobots likely helped with this. I am not sure if I am remembering correctly, but I believe I use to have trouble with fine motor skills.
Every day I had to drink Chimera blood, so I soon became accustomed to its flavor. I think it is something like when you eat a pickle for the first time, after awhile you can tolerate its flavor.
It soon became the time for the kingdom to pick up their delivery. A young woman walks in. “Hello I am princess Mithra. I am here to pick up the supplies.” The sun amplifies her long blonde hair, well I say blonde but there are some silver streaks as well. I can hardly take my eyes off her eyes. Those eyes are a mixture of violet and a turquoise. The moment I take my eyes off hers I notice the symbol woven into her garment. (Where have I seen that symbol before?) “I have to go!” Mithra looks nervous about something. She quickly runs out of the building carrying all the supplies she has ordered.
Princess Mithra
The moment I meet that mans gaze I knew I had to leave. His eye color was the same as my new brothers. They were a deep dark blue, but due to mana, they were slowly becoming a light pink. If their hair color matched I would assume they were brothers, but my brothers hair was a pale white. (Just who is this man? And why does he remind me so much of my brother?)
Sylphire
That night I had a dream. I was back in my old world, however it was the late nineties. Computers where crashing left and right, planes fell from the sky, and the earth was on fire. I could hear screaming everywhere. “It’s the end of the world.” I woke up sweat pouring down my cheeks.

NEWDIE STEADSLAW Part I
NEWDIE STEADSLAW is a randomized array of Chekhov's red herrings, non sequitors ex machina, run-on sentences, and em dashes—so many em dashes. It's like if the Bible and Shakespeare had a baby that they surrendered to foster care, then it got adopted by Alice in Wonderland and Dr. Seuss—the books, not the people—and then the baby fell down the stairs. In this metaphor, the stairs wrote the story. Part I is the tale of the adventures of Traycup and Roby as they try to hold down a job inside the hollow Earth—a place made possible thanks to the secret science of embargoed relativity—and they get distracted by dancing foxes, a giant's record collection, and something with a train, I think. It's a work of fiction—although to call it work seems insulting to, y'know, actual work—but the fiction label is apt, so, y'know, that's a win. Half the words are made up, and the other half are embarrassed to be seen with them. Part I is complete.
