《Nano Mage》Chapter 21 Personal Enchantment

Walking along the lake shore, I gently dip my hands within. Splashing cold water on my face, I clean the accumulated sweat. (What was with that dream?) With my sweaty body now cleansed, I become very alert when I hear the water rupturing. (A chimera!)
My gaze looms on its body. The pattern on its wings are different, it two heads have separate eye colors, and it has three lizard tails. Every cell in my body tingles from the nanobots. (Something is strange about this chimera, and I do not just mean its appearance.) One thing is clear, I have to fight it.
With heightened speed I launch a kick towards its head. In response it raises its paw at the same speed, and swings forward with it. I get flung into the air, and go flying backwards at supersonic speed. Every tree I crash into becomes a fine powder.
Pain radiates through my whole body, I am unable to stand. (Why is this thing stronger than a dragon?) During this time it feels like I will blackout at any moment. “Maybe magic will work better?”
I form a large boulder with earth magic, and begin to whittle it into a jagged form. I continue to increase its sharpness. The giant rock now looks like the head of a spear. “Perfect!” I fire the rock forward, with concentrated pressure, much like adding baking soda to vinegar, then placing a heavy lid on top. The chimera swipes it away with its tail, but a small trail of blood is formed.
Before my eyes the wound on it tail heals. (No way how?) “What is that sound? Shit!” I choke on my own breath. The Chimera was now in front of me. The only thing that I knew that could move at that speed happened to be myself. (Just what is going on here?)

Sharp claws pierce my stomach, my organs lay in front of me. The chimera starts to ingest my body parts. I have already grown new ones and I am just standing there stunned. With each gulp the chimera irradiates a golden glow around its body. I notice something small moving around deep from within its cells. (What is that?) Even with my extremely sharp vision I am unable to make it out. I do know one thing somehow it is very familiar.
(Should I try to attack it while it is eating?) A sneak attack could work, but its reaction time is to quick, meaning my attack would likely end in failure. I am well aware I have to beat this thing before my boss wakes up. His life would end. Unlike other chimera’s this one is simply to strong.
(Think Sylphire think. There must be something I can do to beat this thing.) There might be, but I would be leaving my self quite vulnerable. With that idea in my head I started gathering mana within my body.
I was starting to become dizzy, but the chimera also looked the same. My whole body was now numb. The air around me crackled, lines of violet appeared from time to time. Those violet lines increased in size and thickness as time went on. “Bring fourth the power of the sky, Lightning spear!” The chimera was brought to a complete halt. Its heart no longer beating. I was glade about that. Its rhythmic beating was starting to give me a headache. A normal person what not be bothered by it, but my supper hearing gave me no choice but to hear the loud thumps, over and over again.
I passed out. When I came to the chimera was still lying on the ground motionless. Since that attack worked, I could only come to one conclusion. (It had nanobots installed inside. How was that possible?) As far as I was aware advanced technology like that should not exist in this world. The most advance thing would be a camcorder. I know this because once in a while our class had movie sessions. Upon seeing a VCR my whole body quivered. There were recordings of magic tournaments contained in its contents. My teacher was even in one of them, and when the camera came into contact she shied away.

Once my boss arrived I showed him the corpse. He informed me that is was a rare chimera, and only those who beat it are permitted to use their parts. Since I defeated a rare chimera, Curve told me I would be allowed to have this day to myself to make a personal enchantment. I was handed a sheet of metal, a thin piece of paper, and an engraving knife.
Emptying the rare chimera’s blood into the cauldron, I lit a fire beneath using my magic. Before even dropping the tail in the color of the blood changed from a deep dark red to a luminescent blue. I then proceeded to drop the tail inside. The color once again altered. First it became lime green, then yellow, finally it finished with a soothing pink.
Taking a sip, I was delighted by the taste. (Cheese cake!) The familiar symbols entered my vision. The cube with the crescent moon stood out even more than before. In my mind something other than shapes appeared. A blank metallic bracelet. In that moment I knew what I should do.
Using fire magic I molded the thin sheet of metal into a bracelet. Next I used the chimera’s claws to etch the cube, and moon onto the bracelet. Finally I poured the chimera’s blood over the bracelet. Suddenly it begins to glow. I slip the bracelet onto my right wrist.
I am now blinded by a violet light. Soon the bracelet’s light fades. It is still glowing but it looks more like purple is its natural color. Removing the bracelet it returns to normal. Out of curiosity I move it closer to part of the chimera. The bracelet glows yellow this time. I place it back on and it becomes violet again. Moving my wrist close to the chimera, the moon now glows yellow. I now know what this symbol does. (Why would such a thing be needed in this world?)

Soul Core Online
Soul Core Online was a game that few people were interested in until after it was released, due to its odd way of handling character growth but this soon changed as people started to realise just how different this game was. Unlike many of its predecessors the NPCs in Soul Core Online acted in a way that was indistinguishable from real people and the world felt alive because of this instead of the empty and sterile cities we had come to expect, even walking down the street could give you insights to how these people lived. In my case this was the world that I had always wanted to visit and I soon found myself embroiled in the constantly changing world that is Soul Core Online.
