Diary entry 3

I couldn't sleep. It was so many firsts. I've never slept in an abandoned building, or been homeless, or slept on the floor, or without a blanket. I would say I've never slept in a large pile with complete strangers but we've all been 21 before.

I wasn't the only one though. There was a man named Perry. No last name was given. We stayed up talking all night. He went on and on about his life in the French military as a battle medic, then opened up a veterinarian afterward. He really embodies the "callous asshole with a heart of gold" trope.

I didn't have as interesting a tale but I shared with him my life as a science-focused YouTuber. I was just one of those people who would stand in front of a camera, and either shows off a DIY steam engine or throw some chemicals together to show how some stuff is made, or things like that.

I offhandedly complicated his English as I detected no accent and he gave me a strange look. Turns out he's been speaking French all night and was shocked to find out I was speaking English.

For whatever reason, we can understand each other. But not the native people's languages? Odd. After some more conversation, I realized his lips didn't sync to his words. We also decided to check our handwriting and found that we still wrote in our native language and it was untranslated.

He also told me everything he knew about the other earthlings in this world which wasn't much. Seems like we all appeared here within 24 hours of each other. We have agreed to comb the city for more earthlings but I have a feeling we won't find any.

The rest of the people started waking up at the crack of dawn. The kid was the first to rise. She was a bit melancholy and I tried to comfort her but she didn't speak a word and simply mimed rubbing her stomach. I picked up that she was hungry and it made me realize i was too. It had been about eighteen hours since I last ate.

Luckily not everyone was so incompetent as me and a few had brought along rations. In fact, I noticed everyone had brought some stuff along. Even the kid.

Perry and I shared our discovery about the auto-translation shared between us and it was met with a mix of panic and confusion. Also, I managed to get everyone's name and nationality and wrote it down this time and I got to say were a total motley crew of nationalities.

I, Victoria pierce, American

You already know Yuki Shiro, Japanese

Mr. Perry, French

Mr. José Munoz, Mexican

A teen boy named Hanji Yeong-Soo, Korean. Suspiciously didn't specify which Korea.

A man who calls himself Tex and identified his nationality as "Texas"

A redheaded girl named Valentina Krieger, German

A guy named Declan Palmer, Australian. Oddly the only one who has an accent. Maybe he's faking it?

A teenage girl named Shanti Malhotra, Indian

Then the little girl. She hasn't said a word to anyone so we've taken to calling her Mrs. Mime for the time being.

Anyways, were well fed and most are well-rested. Were going to try to get our bearings and head into town in groups of three.

P.s. Is it odd that I have an extremely deep desire to both wake up from a dream, and to fall into a deep sleep at the same time?
