Diary entry 2

I learned 3 important things since my last entry.

The first is that there is a solution to my communication problem! Apparently, there is this little orb that if two people press their finger too, they can understand each other's languages, but only for as long as their touching it. I saw some merchants doing this earlier with some customers but didn't think it was important at the time.

The second thing I learned is that loitering is illegal in this town. In fact, the way the guards worded it, homelessness is what's actually illegal. At least something here reminds me of home.

Speaking of home, I made sure to stay tight-lipped about the whole "I'm an alien" thing. Not keen on being a lab rat in a medieval society.

Lastly and most importantly, I'm not the only one from earth here. A short while after I was put behind bars, they dragged in a cute Asian woman named Yuki Shiro which apparently means Snow white. I got a chuckle out of that but apparently, she's never read fairy-tales.

The guards didn't have any questions about my technology, I'm guessing either earthlings are common, or they assume it's some kind of magic item. I haven't seen any magic outside of what I'm calling the speech bubble, but I'm sure it's out there.

Oh, I also learned that "vusi ak taloon", not sure I spelled that right, means "you are under arrest". Don't know what words mean what, however.

The guards eventually gave us each a steel coin and a slip of paper with some native words written on it. It's something akin to a green card apparently, letting us get a job in the city for up to two months. They then kicked us out, telling us we should check in to an inn tonight. Considered there are gallows right outside the jailhouse id say we got off extremely easy.

So Yuki lead me to an abandoned warehouse outside of town. There's this horrible stench in the air, and any floorboard that doesn't creak is either soaked in some liquid or flat outbreaks. There seem to be about ten of us in total. Names were thrown out like machine-gun fire so I of course retained none of it. A mix of age and genders though. The youngest of us is eight. All by herself here. Poor kid.

Everyone's cuddled in a pile in the center of the warehouse. Apparently, the nights here are pretty cold so I'm into a rough first night.
