Diary entry 1.

To whoever may find this-

I am Victoria Pierce. I'm not sure why I'm writing this really. Not like anyone aside from me can read it. I guess it just kinda grounds me.

But just in case, any other earthlings find this, let me ask you something. What would you do if you could leave your world behind? To step through a door and move to a new one? Would you do it? Could you do it?

I did. It was a selfish choice in hindsight. I have... had a girlfriend, a family, a stable income, and a wonderful cat. I was happy... but I did.

I don't really know where to start. It was just another day. My girlfriend just left and I was watching cartoons, eating junk food, petting my cat. The usual. Then this hole-type thing opened up? It looked like a circle no matter what angle I looked at it. A thin border of impossibly bright white light was on the rim, and in the hole was another world. It looked like a Renaissance festival in my living room, though with better garb, no anime cosplayers, and no clumsily hidden modern technology.

I don't know why, but I felt compelled to go through. This compulsion wasn't so great that I didn't have time to prepare, however. I grabbed some supplies- my phone, a solar charger, some books on engineering and chemistry, a flashlight, a gun with a good bit of ammo, and some first aid, all packed neatly in a backpack.

I wrote a note giving my goodbyes and just stepped through. I've been here a few hours now and the reality is just now setting in. Up until now, it's been kinda like a dream. There's so much to see in this city. From what I can gather it's a port city, a good mix of cultures and sentient races though it's mostly human, and what I assume is either dwarves, gnomes, or halflings. Some bearded short-stack race. I try not to stare, but it's hard not to, especially at the less than human-looking races. Lizard people, some anthropomorphic cats, demon-looking people, etc.

There seems to be a strong religious influence in the city and I tried talking to one of the men in robes but they couldn't understand me.

The homesickness is already setting in. Am I really here? Is this not all just a dream? I've been getting strange looks. I don't understand the language or the writing, and I forgot to bring any food and water. Currently sitting in the town square typing this out on my phone. I hope I wake up from this soon.
