A week after Haiyang’s first hunt he still didn’t bother to train the cultivation art. The reason for that was the cultivation art needed to be started under the rays of a full moon while on the highest peak. After living in this world for quite a while he knew that a full moon happens every thirty days, and tonight should be the full moon he’s been waiting for.
Later that night when everyone else was asleep Haiyang snuck out of the den. He climbed to the peak of the highest mountain he could find.
In a pretty flat spot of the peak Haiyang followed the directions of the cultivation art. He sat in an upright position. Then, he used the innate qi that every organism is born with to “absorb” the moonlight. By using that little bit of innate qi he had he “grabbed” the moonlight and slowly pulled it into his body. Once there the moonlight turned into a gaseous. The gas was refined and only a fraction of the original still remained. This gas though had a different feeling to it though. It was as if it radiated energy. He channeled the new gaseous to a point in the center of his body. The point was the core or the dantian where qi was stored.
Haiyang found this step easy and thought it was kind of fun. This gave him some motivation and started to pull in the moonlight faster. He continued the act of absorbing moonlight, turning it into qi, and depositing it into his core till his small core was filled.
He then started the second step which was to channel the qi throughout his body through qi pathways. The problem was that when the qi started to go through the pathways Haiyang was hit by a wave of pain. It was like his body was being ripped apart. It was agonizing to the point where he let out a blood curdling scream. He didn’t even let the qi finish a full rotation of his body before he pulled it back to his core.

He started to run back towards the den. His vision was blurry and starting to go black. He made it back just at the moment his legs gave out and he collapsed. He blacked out right as his head hit the ground.
When Haiyang awoke the next day he could still feel the pain throughout his body. He thought about the pain and knew he continue on cultivating it. He felt guilty though because he thought about how the spirit could have used the last of its power to pass on the cultivation art.
He thinks about how that was just a precursor the actual cultivation art. He just laughs bitterly as this may be the end of his cultivation adventure. He thinks how he’ll need to start accepting his new more foxxy life.
After threes years of living as a fox Haiyang has learned to accept this fate and live it up to all it’s potential. He didn’t deny his fate any longer and actually mated with a beautiful female fox just last year. He thought it be weird but his fox instincts compelled him. He found it to not be weird as he was a fox.
Haiyang loves the fox he mated with and the three sons and one daughter they had. He cared about his children as they were his own flesh and blood and he cares about them more than anything in the world.
His brothers and sisters all had families but Hiayang didn’t see them often as they separated ways when they left the den. Today was the day where his family would pay respects to their father or grandfather. So they all gathered at his father’s den with all his brothers, sisters, nephews, and nieces.
They all spent days at their grandfather’s/father’s den to pay their respects. The kits spent the day getting to know their grandparents and their grandparents would teach them a thing or two. Soon the fifth day came and it was time to part ways. They all gathered for one more goodbye before departing.

“I’m so pissed that bastard scammed us,” yelled a hoarse voice.
“We know we know we were there. So stop spouting crap. If you want to vent some anger there are almost 20 foxes over there go kill them if you want,” said a female voice.
“I’ll go vent them,” The hoarse voice replied.
The next thing Haiyang saw was a tall muscular man wearing a bright blue uniform with a deep purple badgle with a yellow sword crossed over an orange sabre. On his side there was sword strapped to his right hip and a dagger on his left. The man in question was covered in cuts and blood stains clearly his own from the ripped uniform.
Haiyang, his brothers, and father all formed a line and growled towards the man. The man drew his sword and started to run towards haiyang and the others.
“Run,” his father yelled towards the others behind him.
Haiyang and the others pounced towards the man with their claws out. The man didn’t show a hint of fear, but he actually smiled. His eyes coldly gleamed has he swiped his sword.
The sword cut through his father and his brothers like they were nothing. The sword lost most of it’s momentum but still had the strength to send Haiyang flying in to a tree. Haiyang tried to get up but immediately fell soon blacking out with his last sight being his father’s and brothers’ sliced bodies. The last sound he heard was the screams of sadness and terror from the others they were trying to protect.
Haiyang awoke to the sun at it’s peak. Surrounded by a scene of gore that burned itself into his mind. His brothers’ and father’s bodies cut in half and lying in a pool of blood. Meters behind them were the mangled bodies of his mother’s, wife’s, sisters’, nephews’, nieces’, sons’, and daughter’s. He didn’t know what to do so he just stood there and stared. He let out a bellow of pain and sadness.
Haiyang dug graves and buried their bodies till the sun started to set. Once all their bodies were buried he sat next to their graves. He stayed like that till a ping of hunger brought him out of his trance the following noon.
He walked into the forest thinking deeply. He failed to catch rabbits multiple times before he just sat down to weep. He couldn’t understand why they had to die to a cultivator that had nothing to gain from them. He started to hate himself for not being stronger. He hated how he didn’t continue cultivating so he could be stronger. He hated that let pain stop him from getting stronger to protect his family.
Haiyang kept thinking about the man’s badge. He could guess that was his sect’s insignia on the it. The sadness started to turn into hate. Hate towards the man. Hate towards the man’s sect.
“When I get strong enough I will destroy your entire sect and make sure there is nothing left of it,” Haiyang yelled towards the sky voice oozing with hate and sadness, “I’ll train and train and go through heaven and hell to get strong enough! I swear to the heavens I’ll get strong enough. I won’t stop till you and your sect is dead!”
Haiyang got up and walked deeper into the forest with a new fire in his eyes. A fire that wanted blood and wouldn’t go out till blood flowed through streets and dyed the sky red.

Molting the Mortal Coil
Reincarnated as a child in a new world a mild mannered programmer, named Sage, finds himself struggling to survive. The road to immortality is paved with danger, treasure, and conflict. This mystical eastern world is filled with Demonic Beasts, Treacherous Cultivators, and Extraordinary Legacies. Follow Sage on his journey to adapt to this new world, and find out if he can overcome the limitations of body, mind, and soul. Will he rise to the occasion and become a hero? Or maybe he'll turn to the dark side and end up a villain? Molting the Mortal Coil is more of a slower paced journey. It's not about endless battles and conquering the next bad guy who spits on the main characters shoes or sends him a funny look. There's also not a treadmill of tournaments or love interests. It's more of a slower burn with lots of, and hopefully not too much, world building. It's still supposed to be stuffed with action, but that won't pick up for a while since we start with a weakling. The first 30 chapters have a lot of time-skipping, but stay with me it gets better. I plan to re-write and add more to the first 30 in the future, but if you can push through I feel it gets much more fun after! Updates will be weekly.
