《Fighting Back The Tide》Chapter Two

Author Note: I have had some people point out that this is like Change: New World on this site as they are the same type and both start in a school toilet. to be honest I am concerned with that as I am a fan of that story as I am not copying but I wanted a nice fight in the toilet as I thought it would be amusing. Now in the coming chapters I will have my MC gain skills for achievements just as in that story but that is because I am a gamer at heart and this is the story of the world being turned game like so it makes sense. Also I will have a god message like in that story but that is because it is important for the story for several plots I have as there will be multiple gods and mythologies involved. Also this book is going to serve as both something to gain experience writing and as the set up for the next book which will focus more on other gods and their world/realms. Bear with me and as I progress further with the story as you will see this is a different story that just starts off similar
After equipping the sword I did a few practice swings to get the feel of it and the description was spot on it was ungainly. I am trained to use a sword so if I get a decent sword it would be a huge boost not like this one. This looks like an over sized machete but anything which gives me extra reach and damage on opponents can only be a plus. I didn't have time to go back on the top of the stall so I waited down in front waiting for the Kobolds to spawn again. This time it was a little different as one warrior and one scout spawned together. Not hesitating for a second I swung my sword at the warrior and the dagger at the scout. The warrior managed to block and sent a kick my way forcing me back out of the stall so my attack on the scout faltered. This is bad as I lost the initiative and couldn't let them get out to surround me or the fight to drag on too long as more would spawn. The scout being not as trained I suppose pounced towards me and I thrust my sword out impaling it in the chest and drew my dagger across the throat just to be sure it was finished. The warrior use the fact that my sword was stuck in its comrade as an opportunity to attack and I let go of my sword and stepped back and to the side dodging its attempt to disembowel me. As it was off balanced by the failed attack I tugged on the extended arm and pulled it further forward and thrust my dagger in the sternum. It let loose a shrill squeal of pain and tried to get back so it could wield the sword better but I didn't let up and kept its wrist firmly clasped in one hand and repeatedly raised my dagger up and down with the other eventually killing it.

I didn't stop to loot the corpses as I was running low on time and rushed over and scooped my sword up then assumed the position in front of the stall. This was worrisome did that mean the enemies are going to continue spawn in greater numbers from now on or is it random? I know they are getting here via magic but are they really spawning like they would in a game or is there an army waiting and can only come through in small numbers? If it is the case and there is an army waiting to come through are they meant to report back is the fact that I am killing them so fast that they can't signal back somehow and that is the reason for the increased numbers? Another Kobold appeared this time with a big staff and I smirked as it wouldn't really to anything with it in that tight confided space except trust it. Easy prey! It tried to block my downward slashing blade only for my sword to cleave through the staff and split through the skull beneath. Another critical hit killing it instantly.

Very different then a game as in a game scoring a critical doesn't mean it would instantly die but do more damage though I suppose as this is reality anything but a slime might find it hard to live with a head cleaved in twain and brains scattered over the floor. After looking more closely at the corpse I broke out in a cold sweat as I moved it into the growing pile.
Kobold Shaman Level 16
Crap doesn't a shaman generally use magic and not only that but the highest level I have come across yet! Was I close to getting fried by lightning or entangled by some nature magic? So glad I chose this tactic and killed it as soon as it appeared or else I might not have stood a chance. I notice some items left of the floor that fell out of the rags he was wearing and stashed them in my blazer pockets
Blue Potion
Unable to identify effects. Can drink now to find out effects or use the identify skill or spell
Mysterious Book
Unable to use. Must identify first for it to be of any use
Could this be a magical tome like those found in a game? Or possibly battle plans or a diary? Wonder what this potion does? How the heck to I gain the identify skill? Take a magnifying glass out and look at it for hours? I took a quick glance in the mirror and saw that I was covered in blood from all the messy killing I had done and smiled humourlessly. Not going to win any presentation or beauty awards any time soon with my grim appearance.

Another scout spawned and saw me standing over the bodies of its kin with blood dripping from my blade. I flashed it an evil grin as I advanced towards it and it seemed to tremble and a small puddle leaked onto the floor then it tried to scramble over the cubicle wall to escape. A foolish move as when it jumped its hands only just reached the top and didn't have enough reach to actually grab hold and pull itself over. If it had dropped to the floor and squirmed underneath then it might have lived longer. I dispatched it easily and received the exp and added its body to the pile. I climbed back up to my position above the stalls and waited for the next monster to arrive.
I remember talking to an elderly person that said physical work like farming was character building. I never wanted to be a farmer but this kind of farming works wonders for me but I doubt that this is quiet what he meant when he said that. After the usual amount of time another Kobold appeared and this one was yet again different from the rest. It had what looked to be armor underneath a robe with a staff in hand and a dagger on a belt which was wrapped atop the robe. It also have an enraged look upon its face making it look even uglier then the usual Kobold. Its skin was also black in colour.
Kobold Elder Mystic Shaman Level 22
Damn this was the toughest yet and what is the difference between this shaman and the last? I did as usual and thrust my sword at it but it obviously had better senses and reactions the all the others as it managed to avoid having its head split and I only managed to hit it on the shoulder severing one arm.
Critical hit

Inflicted bleeding status
The Kobold started screeching horribly and the top end of the staff began to glow. Obviously it was about to use magic either to heal itself or attack me. I guessed it was to attack me as it was pointing at me so I dropped down into the cubic next to it as quick as I could and laid on the floor to slash as its legs. No sooner had I got on the ground the wooden panel separating the two toilet stalls turned to ash. I thought this is my only chance as I won't get another. No knowing how magic works I gambled that it would take a few seconds to either gather the energy or mana however it worked to strike at me again or to chant the spell so I lashed out at the ankles and took both of the feet off and as it went down I sprang up and with one downward thrust I finished it off.

I threw off my shock at what happened and my panic at very near death and looted the corpse. I acquired another strange book and another blue potion. Just as I was moving the corpse to the pile again I heard an announcement.
Testing testing one two three testing. Dear humanity this is a public announcement brought to you by your supreme master and ruler God to clear a few things up. Firstly the creation story. The truth is the world was build by my hands and because of the big bang. See eons ago I was a young and lonely god wandering the cosmos and through various actions beyond my ability to foresee this and that happened and there was a big god war that I may or may not have inadvertently caused. The big bang happened when I created and threw two huge asteroids at another evil god and thus the Earth was formed among other things. I was tasked as punishment to watch over and nurture any sentient life that grew there. That is where humanity gets the form it currently has: from me as leftover DNA from the God Wars. How did you repay my generous gift of life? By always warring and slaughtering each other. By elitism and oppression where the rich got richer and the poor got more so and starved. Now that my punishment is up I have decided you aren't worth the air that you breathe and have started to merge this world with others and other realities as a game to see how long you can last. Very soon the worlds will finish merging and as such I thought I should give you a heads up. Welcome to my world and we play by my rules. Think of it as an rpg game and I am the overlord and dungeon master. It works as any game of that genre does with skills, magic etc. Welcome to the apocalypse have fun dying! Oh and might I trouble you to please do so quickly as I have other vastly more important matters to attend to.

I Don't Seem So Bright in a Well-Lit Room
The universe is a very strange place. It will take even stranger heroes to save it."Absurd. Existential. Ridiculous. Tragic. Comic. The antiheroes of "I Don't Seem So Bright in a Well-Lit Room" are a kind of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern with space packs, inadvertently colliding with their destinies against a starry background of witty wordplay. With a vision as sprawling and limitless as the loveably goofy universe in which it's set, Browning's wit, wisdom and heart are always at play, combining to form a wonderfully panoramic and very silly heroes' journey that visits every trope of its overlapping genres and draws moustaches on all of them."- Marcel St. Pierre, author of "Vengeful Hank" and "Cliché and Wind Go Hitchhiking".(Sci-fi /Dark Humour/Absurd) *Completed! System Only Gives Me Useless Gifts
Li Yun grew up with a system that gave him useless gifts. He wanted a reward that could prove the existence of the system, but ended up with abstract gifts like culture. Without physical proof, he was stuck wondering whether his mind was truly sane, all the while dealing with the reality of life. How will the "useless" system help Li Yun navigate medical school, hospital politics, criminal cases, treasure hunting, farming and cooking? Author's Note: This is a slice-of-life novel about a doctor with a mission-type system. It's written as a faux modern Chinese novel, so there are many 1-off characters and episodic mini arcs. Just a bit of warning, the tone of the story is very different after the childhood arc and jumpy as it chronicles Li Yun's life. I'm trying to make it less apparent in the rewrite, but there are still a lot of time skips. RR is the rewrite version, no set schedule. See webnovel for OG. scribblehub is a combo of both . I recommend scribblehub since it has pictures. Copyrights of the novel and cover are owned by Chocomug. Novel is free to read and download for personal use, such as offline reading, only.

Life is a game, with intrusive microtransactions.
Life is a simulation. There is nothing wrong with acknowledging we are just a part of someone's dream, lines of code existing to give purpose for some machine or anything, but why would this unknown entity add microtransactions in it? Maybe because that way it can wake up faster, by consuming parts of it's dream, until... well, who cares about an unknown entity that has nothing to do with this particular story?
