《Fighting Back The Tide》Chapter One

I hurried over to the sink and washed my shaking hands and the blood out of my mouth. Damn I am so pumped with adrenaline right now. I realised that I was defenseless if more came so I decided to loot the bodies of the recently deceased Kobolds. As I studied the two crude blades a notification popped up

Kobold Dagger

A simply, crude and somewhat infective weapon

Damage: 3-7

+2 strength

+1 Agility

Durability: 15/15

Well better then nothing I guess and I have two of them. The only on their thing left on the bodies were dirty loincloths and there is no way in hell I am picking them up. The stench could make them lethal weapons against something with an acute sense of smell but that would mean having to carry it around with me and just being near them made me nauseous.

As I was finishing up another Kobold appeared out of thin air in the same stall as the others and I realised that this was the legendary spawn point for monsters. It seemed somewhat surprised to seem me standing there and hesitated. I did not and a few swipes later I received:

Exp gained 21

Whenever I played online games with other players like Call of Duty I would hate it as I would have Spawn Campers who would either blow me away with a shotgun, noobtube me with a rocket launcher or snipe me before I had the chance to move but now the shoe was on the other foot and I kinda liked how it fits. I found that unlike games this was real and would be a very bitter struggle for my survival so I would kill my enemies with any means necessary. I was conflicted do I leave and warn everybody about this or keep killing them as they spawn? Both had merits if this was widespread and going to continue I could receive support and warn them to take precautions but at the risk of nobody taking me seriously even with the bodies and giving them time to grow in numbers so as to be unmanageable. Or killing them would net me exp which would strengthen me and loot drops while keeping the numbers down and hope that this bizarre phenomenon would stop as suddenly as it had started.

I opted for the latter and climbed up the stalls and positioned myself over the top over the toilet. Not very comfortable but it would do as who looks up as soon as they enter a room? Granted they aren't human so the same might not apply but if that were the case then I am confident in my ability to slide down into the cubicle my feet hang over and go from there. I didn't have to wait long before another showed up and as it did I plunged my daggers into its head killing it instantly with two critical hits. That was relatively easy so I will wait and time until the next one spawns so I know how much time I have to finish an opponent off if things go bad.

45 seconds later another Kobold Scout appears and sees the body next to it. Plunge and another dead monster. Exp gained 22

I realised that I had to remove the bodies or the stall would pile up. Not sure if that is a good thing or not. If the stall was full would they have no more room to spawn or would it simply shift to another location? I swiftly got down and dragged the bodies over to the sinks in front as I simply didn't have time for anything else and another one spawned looking slightly different from the others and armed with a sword and some sort or armor as well. As he saw me by his dead comrades he stated making sound like a dog barking which I assumed where his language and rushed at me. I charged towards him and as the door to the cubicles were the type to open outwards to give the occupant more room I grabbed the open door and slammed him in the face with it. As he reeled backward I jumped in and stabbed as him in the head repeatedly like the others.

Exp gained 135

Level uo to level 4

Level up to level 5

Level up to level 6

As the Kobold was different then the others and better equipped I studied it and it showed up as a Kobold Warrior Level 15. That was a massive amount more exp then the other monsters. Just like an mmorpg game the exp wasn't just based on level but also the monsters rank as well. I tried equipping the armor but it didn't fit. I thought as it seemed like magic would be a part of this that it might conform to fit the user but no such luck.

I managed to loot two items from the Kobold Warrior

Kobold War Sword

An ungainly weapon used by the Kobold Warrior caste

Damage 10-20

+5 strength

-1 Agility

Durability: 25/25

Red Potion

Can be drunk now to find out the effect or use the identify skill or spell

Well I don't think that it would be good to drink an unknown potion as it might poison me or polymorph me into a chicken like a certain classic rpg game I played. Back then at least you could have saved before hand to test the potion and reloaded if had any ill effects but this is real life there are no saves or continues once you are dead that's it. The End. Unless there are resurrection scrolls or magic items/spells but they are rare in games never mind whatever this world has turned into and they need to have someone else cast them on a target. Even then they are not foolproof as a means to bring people back to life as they require a body to be relatively fresh and undamaged. An obliterated or disintegrated body would be impossible
