Before I could even think about thinking status the dragon, my mother, brought her nose really, really close to me and smelled me. The air moved so much my hair started blowing around and getting in my face...
'If I'm a dragon why do I have hair?'
And that's when I realized I wasn't exactly a dragon. I was more human than dragon. I had human arms and legs, human fingers and toes, and a human shaped head (its not like I could actually see my head though). My ears were slightly pointed, and I did have two wings and a tail, but they were nothing compared to the dragon in front of me. In fact the only parts of me that were dragonish, were my skinny tail, and my tiny wings (they might have been foot long). Other than that, I looked like a normal human girl. There was a little bit of a scale pattern on the backs of my hands, and my feet, but it was still skin.
"I am glad you have awareness. Someday you may understand what I have been through just to shield you from our curse. You are more precious to me than my own life." Her voice was soft, but it carried throughout the entire cave with a slight echo.
"C-curse? Is that why I'm not like you?" I tried to sound like a naive little dragon/human, which was surprisingly easy because I kind of was naive, and definetly little compared to my mom.
"Many years ago a god cursed us for trying to destroy him. I resisted the full effects, but until you, every one of my children has been born feral. Nothing more than mindless monsters. I, used a different method with you." As she spoke, her form started to change. She started getting smaller, and by the time her transformation was done, she became human. "I used my human shape to form you, and... I will explain how dragons are born when you are older. Let me look at you."

She started looking me over, which didn't feel as wierd as I would have expected from a complete stranger. It felt like she was my mother, and I wasn't embarrassed at all to be naked in front of her. Even if her human form was wearing clothes. So while I was being examined I took the time to check my character info.

'Um, wow. That's a lot. I wonder if I'm going to have to figure this all out or if there's a tutorial.'
Before I could look at anything else there was a loud explosion, and my mother immedieately shifted back into her dragon form.
"Stay here, I will return." She flew up and then down through a hole in the floor.

I walked over to the hole. Well, I crawled for part of the way then when I trusted my balance, I walked on two legs until I got to the hole, where I crawled again. The hole was huge. You could fit my mother in it at least five times. The ground below the hole was also far away, so I wrapped my tail around some rocks that were nearby. Then I remembered I had a tail.
It wasn't like I actually forgot that I had a tail and wings, they just felt so natural that I didn't really notice them. It was like a dream where wierd things can happen but it all seems normal until you wake up. Except this dream felt real, and I could still remember that having a tail was wierd, and I could remember my real life.
'Heh, it is kinda real.'
After my brief moment of contemplation, I decided it didn't matter and while I was here, I was going to make the most of it. Also, I was going to avoid falling through the giant hole before I learned how to fly. It looked like the hole was in the bottom of some kind of overhang. On one side I could see a clift, and on the other it was just open space. I kind of made sense, because the area where I woke up was above the clift, so there was plenty of support for my mother's nest.
As I tried look at more of the outside world, I saw my mother light up the darkness with a beautiful purplish flame. The fire swept over trees, though it didn't seem to damage them, but there was a large looking creature that howled with pain. My mom didn't give it any time to recover and she used her wings to leap into the air and pounce on it. There was a brief moment of thrashing and then everything went still.
After a moment the area around where they were fighting got dark. It wasn't just low light, it was as if somethng had swallowed the light and left a hole to the abyss. It only lasted for a few seconds, but I felt like I was pulled in. It was all I could do to avoid falling off the edge. Then it was gone.
"Are you sure you want to be that close to the edge? It might be dificult for me to catch you." My mother had somehow gotten behind me.
"Oh, I don't want to fall. I was just trying to watch you." I gave her a sweet smile. At least I think it was sweet, I still had no idea what my face looked like.
"Well, I brought you dinner, so... You might need cooked meat. Here try this." She dropped a piece of meat on the floor in front of her, and then cooked it with her (not purple) flames.
I crawled away from the edge, my nose filled with the amazing smell of cooked meat. I was very impressed by the smell. It made me feel like I hadn't eaten for a week, and someone was having a barbeque. By the time I got to the meat I was almost running, and I didn't stop very well when i got to it. I tumbled over it, but still managed to get my hands on it, and as I was still rolling I took a bite. The juice got all over my face, hands, arms, chest, and my mothers hand/claw as she stopped me from rolling.
"You really should try to calm down. It is only feral earth dragon. They have such a bland taste."

Tales of the Legendary Scholar
They meet in the most unlikely moment and turned their life around. Freidrech newly arrived in his own nation's capital city, which is so foreign to him compared to his village's idyllic and nondiscriminatory atmosphere, after he is forced to come. Now, he is facing a royal prince and tells him to bow. This draws out one of his late father's teachings from the deepest recesses in his mind. "The blood of your great ancestors runs in your veins. Don't easily bow down to anyone, or accept suppression by any being, not even from a monarch, unless you pledge your allegiance to him. Also, giving in to oppression is directly telling the oppressor that you're easy prey and open for manipulation." He is uncertain on how to face this oppression right now. Will he bows or not? What will he do to uphold his father's words while keeping his life safe? As for the prince, Theodrech has nothing to do with Freidrech, so he wishes to let this slip, but the boy opens his mouth and proposes the most ludicrous challenge he ever heard and triggers his curiosity. "I, Freidrech Goederf Gerboud, son of the late Village Chief Louvel Gerboud of Wrilon, will challenge you, Your Highness, to a battle of riddles… If you win, I will not only bow but be your servant for the rest of my life." This amuses the prince. It is the first he met a boy of the same age who is not intimidated by the air of authority he projects. Rather, this boy challenges him. "Why are you so headstrong? In fact, bowing to me is an honor. You saw the King's noble Knights. When they saw me, they bowed," says Theodrech, testing Freidrech. "Allow me to be forward, Your Highness. For me, bowing to a monarch does not guarantee loyalty. If I were you, I rather have men who stand straight in my presence but who got my back, than bowing men who are dreaming of my death," replies Freidrech. The prince’s curiosity increases. A huge smile is seen on his face. Prince Theodrech decides to take Freidrech under his wing. Little did they know, this boy who Prince Theodrech takes in as his confidant and friend in the most ridiculous fashion is someone indispensable in his life and the one who can help him succeed the throne when he almost believes he has lost. Thus, the Tales of the Legendary Scholar begins. ------ o ------ Old Synopsis: A famous ancient adage stated, behind a successful man is a woman BUT… In these lands, the monarchs are seeking not a woman to stand behind them but the man hailed as the Legendary Scholar.
