She would often complain to him that became chancellor were all paperwork and political intrigues, he could taste the disgust in her voice when she complained. He often thought that his master were exaggerating, how being the most high-ranked magician trouble her?

Three years ago, when the twelfth Serabough Town's bell just rang, he voice his thought to the fellow apprentice of his master. Unfortunately for him, his master seems to eavesdrop (even though in his defense, he was very sure that his master were spying on him, using her private scrying pool). To his surprise, his master didn't reprimand him, She laugh and laugh with the most joyous voice he ever heard, somehow giving him creeps. The next day, he was appointed to become next chancellor. And four days after that, with clique farewell letter "let's see how you handled it." she retired herself to the Greinard Village. Left him baffled and regretted.

Become chancellor were far from easy. To keep everything in balance so there are no misuse of power, board of council were appointed in the same level of power as the chancellor himself. Getting through proposal from them took lots and lots of effort. Not to mention, most of them were those snobby noble, but with even bigger ego and holier-than-thou attitude.

And one of the most difficult proposal to get through were the one that using significant amount of guild fund.

Of course, he able to spend some fund if it were deemed necessary. Like laboratory accident that caused broken apparatus. But, the council accountant were very, very, very meticulous. One gold deviation from the market value and she would reprimand him to be more strict with the money. The fund were everyone money, not yours, she said. Therefore we must assure ourselves that the last copper were spend wisely.

That's why, now he were very hesitant. The young elf before him had shown him his research. It was the most amazing application of magic he ever see. Using external mana to power five-circle magic, so that even a peasant could use it? He almost get heart attack when the elf show teleportation scroll that could be used a hundred times. In that split second, he deemed it the most importance to be able to get this elf into his circle of colleague. The technology itself still mystery to him. He intrigued to learn the technique, but it seems Gaia issue protection of the elf research. The elf called it patent.

The elf asked certain amount of exchange. And that exchange were costly. He could not imagine spend that amount of fund in this elf. The thought of the bashing he would got at board meeting were unbearable. But he couldn't let the elf go. If he refused the elf could simply asked another town Magician Guild for exchange, and they would gladly welcome him, losing him wasn't acceptable.

Most of the modern magic that used today by the magician, originally derived from the ancient magic of God or Divine being. However due to tremendous requirement to use ancient magic, mortal never been able to fully utilize it. Scholar were the first line of magical profession. They tested the ancient magic thoroughly and created Modern Magic that require less amount of magic to be used. Even though the most modern magic were far less powerful than the ancient magic, scholar able to create most cost-effective mana/magic ratio than the ancient magic user ever dreamed of. It has been said that if scholar work to be applied in the ancient magic, total destruction will surely occur. Nowadays, scholar work mostly involved in creating and improving new magic in form of research. Scholar favour efficiency above else and viewing evocation branch with reluctance.

"Of course. But we can't control that. When you train your body strength increased. Reading books increase intelligence, you can't change that!"

"Of course not! But I could change the aftermath! You see Dearest Customers, What I offer you here is called status gamble."

And I only could work with basic status that could be raised normally via increasing level, means no honor, no faith, no endurance and such."
