《Rise of the Goblin Dungeon》Chapter 7: Mashed, roasted, melted a hundred ways to prepare a spider buffet

And the second chapter :D Simply had to push it out today ^^
Bugs can be pretty vicious!
As soon as the Horde Mother had declared the attack I moved into the entrance cave. The first thing i noticed was, that apparently Goring had made the Silverthread spiders make some loose nets over the entrance before ordering them back again while I had waited outside. Soon the first enemies came rushing in and some of them got tangled between the strings, catching their legs or whole bodies in the sticky embrace. Of course a lot of the bladed spiders simply cut themselves free but they didn't seem to want to help each other. Some of them tried to go along the walls, but thanks to the Oil Snails there were not many spaces left free of the slick substance and made most of the spiders tumble down. Meanwhile the first invaders met with the Acidic Snails.
Eww just good that i do not have a stomach. Right now I think I would get kinda sick.
The snails waited till the spiders came into range before they shot spurts of acidic puke towards the approaching enemies. Any spider that was unfortunate enough to get hit let out a high pitched hiss and thrashed around wildly in pain and panic.
No wonder, I would most likely have the same reaction if my face and body were melting…
This made for even more chaos on the attacker's side and they even killed each other sometimes. The snails shot out as much as they could like that and the puddles that formed presented another obstacle but soon enough the spiders reached them.
Uh oh that is gonna hurt.
Which was not as much the case as i had thought. One of the snails let out a screech as if it had been hit with salt and from behind a whistling sound came. At once the Soldier bugs plunged themselves in front of the snails and attacked the spiders with their strong shears.
Huh that must have been Gorin. She is a lot better at this than I thought. The melee fight was brutal to watch, the strong exoskeleton of the bugs made them into pretty hard enemies for the spiders and those shears made for fearsome weapons, although on a small scale. There was one problem though. The snails still continued to shoot out their puke and hit the bugs sometimes as well.
Hmmm no that is not good. Seems her control is still lacking, or she simply can't see enough from the other cave. Anyway let's pull those back.
I ordered the snails to slowly retreat into the first tunnel and recover their strength to meet the next charge along with the Silverthreads. Like this the battle raged on without pause, new spiders rushing in to replace the ones that died. Slowly the Soldier bugs were pushed back and would soon be overwhelmed. Most of them already had deep scratches all over and some were covered in the poison spit of the other spiders.
Just good that they do not have a proper strategy. The ranged ones are completely mixed in with the melee spiders.
I took this moment to look outside. There were still a lot more spiders waiting outside and the Mother had placed herself around 5m away from the dungeon entrance. There were regularly dropping new spiders out of her backend, luckily not swift enough to completely replace the dying spiders.

Hmm I have to get some of my spiders to involve into one of those. That sure looks useful to have. It´s like a aircraft carrier just that it also produced them. A spidercraft carrier ! Hah! Well back to business.
I returned back inside the dungeon. The Soldier Bugs situation was getting desperate. So I ordered all the lost cases, that had sustained too many wounds as well as those that were sluggish from the poison, to remain and stall while the relatively healthy ones retreated. As soon as the spiders had killed the remaining bugs they rushed forward and were once more greeted by a full broadside of the snails acid puke. Though it looked a lot less dramatic this time. It seemed like they were not able to keep up producing enough.
That was it for the snails as well, time to get the goblins involved.
I ordered the remaining bugs and the spiders to retreat to the cave where the goblins waited. They positioned themselves along the walls around the tunnels exit so none of the invaders could easily get around the goblins. After a while the first spiders came and were greeted by the stones and clubs that the goblin wielded.
“Time to show those guys who this place belongs to, goblins ! Squash each and every one of them.”(Me)
“YES!”(Goblins)
That was the moment when it happened. With a wild screech Gob charged the spiders in reckless abandon. He slammed his club down, stomped and even bit some of the spiders to death. His slitted eyes were abnormally large and there was a glimmer of pure hatred and bloodlust in them.
“Gob what are you doing !?”(Me)
“Enemies !! Enemies of the Lord must be squashed ! AHAHAHA die die die !!” (Gob)
The fuck is wrong with him ?
The title Zealous Minion was triggered.
Seeing enemies attack his Lord and getting the order to
eliminate them has sent him into a frenzy.
Hey hey, I didnt read anything about that in the description!
Special functions of titles are not revealed until
triggered at least once.
Gah ! You gotta be kidding me with this hide and seek play. Somehow your whole system seems jumbled in strange places. Anyway let's hope he doesn't get killed it seems he won't back off anymore.
I watched in awe how the goblin fought at the forefront all the while. Luckily a lot of the bladed spiders had been killed in the entrance cave. So he suffered less slash wounds than expected. But he still looked like a bloody mess soon enough. It even forced the shamans to cast some healing spells on him.
“Gobar start using the crystals. No use in holding back right now.”(Me)
The old goblin nodded and took one of the pots that held fire crystals. He took one that fit well in his hand and looked at it for a moment. Soon the crystal lit up like a magnesium torch and the goblin threw it quickly inside the tunnel.
Barbeque incoming !
The glowing thing vanished inside the tunnel before it was suddenly lit up violently. The old goblin had destabilized the mana inside the crystal which made it burst soon and set free all the fire energy stored inside it. Apparently this was a common way to use the lower quality stones in combat. Though it was also a pretty expensive way to use them like this. After this the shamans continued to throw the crystals inside the tunnel when there was a larger amount of spiders rushing in. Though we had to be careful about the oxygen so they used some wind crystals to purify the air. Finally after it had been going on like this for a good amount of time, the stream of spiders begun to steadily lessened.

“Seems like they are running out of soldiers! Push outwards now and crush that fat spider ! Let's roast that fat thing tonight !”(Me)
At my order the goblins and remaining insects rushed into the tunnel, Gob in front of them all like the zealot berserker he had become.
Holy shit, that guy really got crazy in the head ! I'll need some more of his kind later on.
Watching how my forces killed their way out I moved outside first to get a look at the situation there just in case. The horde had thinned out dramatically. But what fascinated me was that the fat spider had gotten a little less fat.
Ahh yes, nourishment was it? Guess she need to consume her reserves to make those spiders grow quicker. well we should finish her before she uses up too much. Who knows if she doesn't get too agile after she uses up all the fat.
Soon enough my insects and the goblins came out of the dungeons. The startled Horde Mother hissed in hate at the sight of approaching forces.
“Impossible ! how could you have killed all my children so quickly!”(Horde Mother)
Haha stupid spider, you just sent them in and didn't even check if they were making progress. You didn't even leave enough here to guard you.
For now I wanted to see how well the goblins would deal with the big spider and simply hovered above them to watch. That was when Gob surprised everyone once again. With a mad scream he ran around the Horde mother, completely ignoring the spiders that attacked him. Confused the big spider did not know what to do and moved slowly, uncertain who she should keep her eyes on.
“Spread out! Circle around and finish off the little spiders first! ”(Gobar)
Gobar took command at once and the forces spread out. Between the teamwork of goblins and insects the remaining spiders were eradicated quickly.
“My children ! You worms dare !”(Horde Mother)
Seeing her children get slaughtered so quickly the spider got enraged and wanted to attack the goblins as well. But that was when Gob found his chance. Having run around her he got in a spot directly behind her and with reckless abandon jumped onto the behind of the spider. With a mad laugh he slammed his hands down, piercing his claws into the soft flesh. The Mother hissed in pain and tried to shake the goblin of, but with her body she simply could not move roughly enough to shake off the goblin. Still laughing the goblin begun to bite the spider with his sharp teeth, ripping out pieces of flesh left and right.
“Chance ! Attack from the sides ! ”(Gobar)
At Gobar´s order some goblins from the side charged in, slamming their clubs into the spider's legs roughly. It was a strange sound to hear the wood collide with the thick chitin armor. One of them got lucky and a joint broke under his club. The Spider was by now in a complete panic and thrashed around as good as she could but it was obviously to no avail.
I really don't envy that one. Attackers from every side and a madman ripping pieces out of your ass! HAHAHA this is too awesome. I will have to reward Gob well after this.
Gobar repeated the same strategy a few times and had his apprentices shoot some rock bullets at the spider's eyes which let some of them pop like water balloons. After a few more attacks the other legs began to cave in as well at various joints and the chitin splintered in various places.
Well that is a sorry sight, but if you attack someone you have to be prepared for retaliation.
I leisurely mused from my observation spot. The spiders strength soon left her body and she sunk down to the floor as an exhausted mess. The fleshy behind was bleeding profusely and i think i even saw some of the inner organs that had been ripped up by Gob.
“Give Gob a club and let him finish the spider. He did some outstanding work today. ”(Me)
One of the goblins threw his club to Gob once he stood on the spider's body, it was still twitching in a futile struggle but there was no hope now. With a gleeful smile the goblin stood over its head from behind.
“O great Lord ! For you !”(Gob)
With brutal moves Gob slammed down his weapon again and again directly on the eyes and head. The chitin soon was smashed completely and everything below it as well as the goblin did his best to completely eradicate the enemy. The body twitched for a while still before it finally went completely still. The roughly breathing Gob stepped down and suddenly toppled over, planting his face into the grassy ground.
“Hey hey is he ok ?”(Me)
One of the apprentices went to him right away and checked the fallen Gob out thoroughly
“Yes, Lord he is simply exhausted and needs rest as well as his wounds tended to.”(Apprentice #1)
After that there were a few leftover spiders that were cleaned up.
