《Electrosilver》Chapter 2

The moment Luke opened his eyes, he could hear gasps even louder than those that he had heard before. To him, however, these sighs were inconsequential. The only thing that was on his mind right now was the question of why he could not see anything.
He tried coming up with many conjectures as to why he could not see while his eyes were open ‘maybe the lights are out, maybe lights just didn’t reach this room that he was in, maybe it’s just night time.’ Unfortunately, the more suppositions that Luke came up with, the more implausible he realized they were.
Considering his mother was undergoing childbirth, Luke was certain that there would be a form of lighting around to ensure successful delivery. And even if it happened to be nighttime and the others could still see (well, they are a new life form after all), then he, as one of them, should have been able to too.
Thus, after thinking for a while, the only conclusion that he could come to was that he was blind. The more he thought about it, the more it made sense. While choosing the body that his consciousness would reside in, he had chosen a brain with barely passable brain waves, thus it was only natural for one of the pre- existing faculties of the brain to be over-run to create space for his consciousness.
Sadly, what he had not anticipated was that the part of his brain that would get over run would be his optical lobes, the part responsible for governing sight.
At this point, Luke could do nothing but come to terms with the fact that he was now blind. Life would probably hard from this point forward, but he would do his best to survive and strive forward. After all, he had been given a second chance at life. No use in whining at this point.
The only thing that made Luke a bit happy was that, while he did not have sight, he did have a fountain, more precisely, a treasure trove of knowledge that he not only knew but also perfectly understood. While he was not entirely certain on about how much use this information would be on this new planet, he figured that better to have more than less, right?
Luke was broken away from his thoughts once more by the sound of the soothing voice. However, in as much as it was soothing, it was of no use if he could not understand it. Thus Luke decided to use his knowledge on linguistics of all different languages from earth to try and decipher this language, the same way archaeologists of the old were able to decipher the meanings of the even more ancient hieroglyphs of Egypt.
While there was not much that he could understand at the beginning, with each passing second that they spoke, he was able to understand a word more. One other thing that Luke could not help but notice was that his earing was splendidly swell. He was not sure whether it was just a characteristic of his new race or whether it was because he was blind (most blind people tend to hear better after all), but one thing was for certain, he could hear a person’s breathing from a distance that seemed to be five meters away.

Five minutes after he started the analysis of the language, Luke was fairly certain that he could now say that he had a rather firm grasp on the language. Feeling confident in his abilities, he decided to listen in on what the four people in the room were talking about.
“Congratulations my queen, what a beautiful baby you have.” One of the ladies to his right said in a jovial manner.
“And it’s a boy too, who would have thought. For us high humans that’s a rare blessing” Another said in a pleasantly surprised voice.
“He looks quite strange though, who would have thought that he would have…” A different surprised lady stated. However, before she could even finish speaking, an old, raspy and disappointed- sounding voice chided in.
“It’s a pity that he’s blind though. His eyes have no pupils so I’m guessing that he can’t see. We only have one chance to get a prince, and guess what? He’s blind. Fate is such a tinker’s dam. Too bad there’s nothing we can do about it. Guess we’ll just have to take care of him. Life will most likely be harder for him that it will be for us”.
As Luke listened to their words, he could help but sigh. ‘Queen? Prince? High human?’ What had he been born into, some form of middle ages? However, as he had come to expect the unexpected, this did not faze him much. The only thing that made him quite intrigued was the discovery that he was of a race of high humans. While he did not know the specific characteristics to this race yet, that single statement had answered a lot of his questions.
While still in deep thoughts, he noticed that he could still sense electric pulses in the air around him. This did not surprise him much as he knew that, provided a planet had an atmosphere, it would have electromagnetic waves moving on its surface in a particular pattern. And as every single object on the planet contained energy through the movement of the particles in their atoms, they would radiate electromagnetic pulses. What instead surprised him was that he could only sense the electromagnetic pulses around him for a distance of fifty centimeters. How little.
The only saving grace that he felt he had was that he could detect the electromagnetic waves pulsing through all the objects within that fifty centimeters radius in a specified pattern, and thus he could make out all their shapes and positions. From what he could detect, the only living life form within his detectable range was the woman that was holding him, most probably his mother.
“So what will you name him Jade?” He heard the old the old raspy voice asking his mother.
So she’s called Jade, huh? Pretty good name. He thought.
“Because of his lack of sight, I shall call him Dusk, like the dawn of night. Thus as the son of I Jade Moonlight, Queen of Empiria, he shall be called Dusk Moonlight”. His mother said in a rather saddened voice. He could notice from her tone of speech that from the way she talked about his sight, she had received a major blow from its absence.

Dusk, huh? He quite liked the name. “From this day forward, in this new body of mine, I shall no longer be known as Luke but shall now be known as Dusk Moonlight, son of Jade Moonlight”. He thought to himself as he smiled internally.
While Dusk felt quite bad for having made his mother feel bad because of his sight, he knew that there was nothing he could do about it and so he could only strive to live a life worth making her happy.
After having named him, Dusk’s mother dismissed the other three out of the room. From the comfortable way in which she acted, Dusk was able to deduce that this room was one that she was most familiar with, most probably her bedroom.
As soon as the other’s left the room, Dusk’s mother placed him on the bed beside her and started singing him lullabies while talking to him lovingly and at the brink of tears.
“Dusk my pretty baby, no need to worry, mama’s here for you, mama will protect you. Ooh, my poor baby, no need to worry, no one will bully you. Mama will protect you because mama loves you, okay? You’re mama’s special baby boy”. His mom said in a voice so soft one would not help but think that she was talking to herself.
Upon hearing those words, even though Dusk had stopped being an emotional boy by nature, coupled with the fact that the time he spent as an ethereal being had dulled his emotions, he could not help but cry internally. For him to go from a place where he was unappreciated and just treated as specimen, to a place where someone had vowed on her life to protect and watch over him, he could only feel thankful to the universe.
For the next few days, the only person Dusk spent his time with was his mother and he was surprised at how she treated him. She handled him so delicately, as though he were a fragile doll. She would always carry him around wherever she went, and whenever she sat down to do some work (she was a queen after all), she would always place him next to her. Soon enough, Dusk had learnt that he was stuck to his mother like gum to a boot.
One other thing that Dusk noticed to his astonishment was that for all the time since he was born, he never once felt hungry. Of course he would often feel sleepy and fall asleep just like a normal baby did but not once did he feel hungry. What surprised him even more was that his mother had not even once made an effort to feed him, as though she was aware of what was happening.
The only conclusion that Dusk could thus come to was that high humans, as a race, did not require food. But then if that was so, then where did they obtain the energy for their daily functions? This was something that he would have to look into later.
At this point in time, Dusk, after many trials, had already come to be fully convinced that he was totally blind. Thus these days he preferred to keep his eyed closed and instead focus on sensing the electromagnetic pulses around him. Maybe they would give him some answers. At this time, the radius of his influence had already expanded to sixty centimeters around his body (almost two feet).
One thing that Dusk had in mind was to try and decipher his mother’s long term memory brain waves. He clearly remembered how, just before his birth, he had been able to view two images. He was certain that had his concentration not been interrupted, he would have been able to view some more of his mother’s memories.
While the prospect of also deciphering his mother’s other brain waves and the other electric pulses throughout her body to see whether he could control them sounded appealing to Dusk, it was close to impossible for him to do at the moment because they just moved too fast. While in the future he may be able to decipher them, at the moment he simply had to make do with the long term memory brain waves which only oscillated in the same position.
This, to Dusk, was however a good thing as what he needed now for the most part was information of his new home, and the only way to get that was to pry through his mother’s long term memory brain waves.
Dusk was not at all worried because he was certain that other than him, no one else on the planet could detect either electric or electromagnetic pulses or even know of their presence, they were after all invisible.
And even if they happened to know of its existence, that was all they would do, know. He was sure that unlike him, they would be unable to manipulate the pulses to their benefit (even he had come to learn of this ability trough a very unrepeatable ordeal). As such, he was sure that even his mother who was right next to him would be unable to know what he was doing. To her, he would most probably look just like an immobile child.
And indeed Dusk, from the perspective of an outsider, did look as though he were dead. Were it not for his breathing, one would have had already thought to bury him. After all, as dusk never felt hungry, he naturally did not eat. And as he did not eat, he naturally did not excrete, and as a result, he always remained silent as he did not have the reasons that other babies had to cry.
Coupled with his lack of movement and sound was the fact that Dusk, did not even once, open his eyes. It was indeed strange.
And so dusk began his mission of deciphering all the memories contained within his mother’s long term memory brain waves. While he knew that it would take fairly long, he also knew that by the end of this ordeal, he would have gained two massive benefits. One was information on his new home, and the other was practice on how to better control both electric and electromagnetic waves.

The White Rabbit
In the Urillian Empire, the Empress Xandra rules three-quarters of the planet Xren from her home in the capital of the Earth Continent. Both the fire and water peoples have fallen under her might after a series of wars stretching back three centuries. Earth elves, under Xandra's rule, have spread throughout the planet and established colonies, and are, by all accounts, enjoying what seems to be a prosperous and happy existence. But not everyone in Uril is happy. The holy books speak of elves as the Chosen People of Thesis, tasked with guiding and protecting the lower races. For some people, this scripture has been interpreted to designate their life as one on the lowest rungs of society. Humans have been reduced to a slave class, and serve their elven masters under Xandra's rule, kept at bay by the constant fear of the dreaded Emerald Knight, and their own perceived weakness. Humans do not lead long lives, nor do they possess the wisdom, power, or magical acumen of their elven masters. But there is hope. A group of people have banded together to fight against Xandra, her Knight, and her empire. They call themselves the "Knights of Order" united under the principle idea that Xandra's reign has brought chaos unto Xren, and they wish to restore order. These Knights are led by a man named Xaxac Brigaddon, spoken of as a legend. They say that when the moons are full, some humans transform into powerful beasts. They say that Xaxac is the most powerful warrior on Xren, that in his youth he was enslaved and forced to fight other humans to the death in a bloodsport called "cage fighting", that he could not be touched and held the world championship title for three years running until he faked his own death and escaped his master to join the resistance. They say that he has friends in high places- noblemen, pirates, and the devil himself. They say that if you can find him, he can ferry you to freedom in places where the Earth Elves fear to tread. They say that he is immune to magical attack, and his eyes shine like the silver moon. They say that he is descended from Quizlivian Brigaddon, one of the humans who helped the demon Magnus escape a god. They say that if you want to walk the Path of Order, you should follow the White Rabbit.Come and watch the transformation from human boy to Knight of Order: The life and times of Xaxac OfAgalon OfLangil Brigaddon. Content Warning: This work is based on the real experiences of human trafficing survivors. Xaxac's origins are based on true events, and they are presented realisitcally; this includes but is not limited to: isolation, gaslighting, emotional and sexual abuse, and grooming tactics. This work is meant to hold a mirror up to society; it is based on the real of experiences of people who have experienced slavery and/or abuse. It is an adult work and probably should not be read by anyone under the age of 18. If you are a survivor of human trafficing and/or abuse, your feedback is welcome, but please do not read this if you think it may trigger your trauma. I did not write this with the intention of harming anyone, but rather to provide accurate representation for a group that does not normally get it in the hopes of changing the zeitgeist. I would like to see a world where more people understand what these experiences are like, so that real survivors do not have to deal with microagressions from an ignorant public.
