《Electrosilver》Chapter 3

While Dusk had expected it to take him long, this surprised even him. For him to take one whole year sorting through his mother’s memories, just how many did she have? How can someone that is approximately thirty years old have so many memories?
His question had, however, been answered as he had come to learn that his mother had, not just 30 but 157 years’ worth of memory, and that wasn’t even the half of it. Ooh no. From what he could see, his mother was still among the younger ones in their race meaning that some other people had lived for much, much longer, to the point of thousands of years.
While he had been analyzing the brain waves, Dusk had made sure to not interfere with them as he knew that a single alteration of his mother’s brain waves would result in A lot of problems. Luckily the brain waves for long term memory simply oscillated in the same position, and as such, it was rather difficult to alter them.
And so, for the first time in one whole year (apart from the times he slept), Dusk’s consciousness left his mother’s mind. As soon as he came back to the outside world, he was astounded by what he came to learn. Over this one year, the range at which he could sense the Electric and electromagnetic pulses (E.M pulses) had increased to two kilometers. Quite a sweet range.
This wasn’t even the most surprising thing. He came to learn that within this area of influence, he could instantly access the long term memories of any single person he wanted to. He, however, didn’t do so as he saw no need to. He had already acquired all the information that he needed from his mother. And some extra too.
The reason why Dusk could now instantly access the memories of anyone within his range was that during the one year that he had been searching through his mother’s mind, he had come to understand the patterns that brain waves follow. And though everyone’s brain waves are a little different, using those patterns as a template, Dusk could be able to instantly acquire each person’s memories.
What Dusk now wanted to do was to be able to see whether he could decipher and/or alter all the other non-stationary E.M pulses within a person’s body, however, at the moment, they still moved too fast for him (though considerably slower comparing to the first time he tried) and he also feared trying it on his mother because should he mess up, his mother would have to suffer serious repercussions. For those reasons, he could do nothing but continue training to increase his affinity with E.M pulses by sensing the E.M pulses around him.
One other thing that Dusk had come to learn was that his mother had been constantly worried about him. Especially since he did not even move an inch of his own accord for more than one year after his birth, his mother began to think that he was disabled.
To ease his mother’s worries, Dusk tried to move for a bit, while still keeping his eyes closed. He noticed that he could move his arms and feet up and down, roll around, and crawl for short distances. Once his mother saw this, she started shouting in joy. Abruptly so.

“Dusk, my baby, you can move, you can move. You’re crawling. Mama’s so proud, she could faint right now.”
His mother’s voice was so loud that Dusk almost failed to hear the sound of tear drops falling to the floor.
Having eased his mother’s worries, Dusk decided to go back to being still so that he could once more review the memories that he had obtained.
Of what Dusk came to learn, this world had no name, its inhabitants never gave it one. The high humans were all located on a single almost circular continent and knew nothing of the world outside it. The reason for this ignorance was that towards the outer part of the almost circular continent was a forest. This forest by the name of ‘The Forest’ covered the whole continent in a circular manner and was said to be filled with extremely dangerous monsters. So much so, that while many people had left to explore it in a bid to discover the outside world. None had returned.
The good thing, however, was that while the high humans may have been unable to leave their continent, the Alatza Continent. The continent in itself was extremely big hence there was more than enough space for everyone to fit in. As per Dusk’s calculations, if compared to earth, it would have been the size of all continents (except Antarctica) combined. This huge continent was ruled by the Alatza Empire.
To the center of the almost circular continent was a large lake, The Espian Lake. The Espian Lake was also almost circular in shape. Between the lake and the forest, the land was divided into six great kingdoms, each approximately the same size: The Latzuna Kingdom, The Empiria Kingdom, The Domica Kingdom, The Letendo Kingdom, The PratzalI Kingdom and The Melona Kingdom.
Dusk learnt that he was born to the Empiria Kingdom. To the queen, Jade Moonlight.
Due to their seclusion, the high humans only knew of the existence of two races. There may have been more, but that was all they knew. The two races in existence were the high humans and the dragons. The Dragons were known because they often flew above the Alatza Continent. Thus while the high humans knew that this planet of theirs was big, they did not know by how much.
Dusk, however, after determining the gravitational pull on this planet using the nature of the E.M pulses in his surroundings, was able to determine that this planet was at least 65 times bigger than earth. That big. Although the planet was many times bigger than Earth, its fast rotation caused it to have days that were 24 hours long. Similar to earth
From what he saw, Dusk was able to learn that the high human race tended to have more females than males. It seemed to be a genetic trait. It was so severe, in fact, that of every ten children born, only one was a boy. For this reason, the society was matriarchal.
It was also for this same reason that high humans did not have the concept of marriage. They saw both no use for it and no means by which it could be achieved.
The high humans were a really pretty species, almost like elves, who at some point stop aging. Depending on where they came from, they all either had black, brown, red or golden blonde hair. Their eyes were mostly of either the colors black, brown or blue.

Their buildings mostly looked like those of the Middle Ages, however, almost all of them surprisingly contained glass windows.
In this world there was a thing called mana. Mana was a form of energy that existed all around: in the air and in all other things. Using mana, one would be able to do things such as cast spells.
Coupled with mana was the elemental affinity, every single human had one. However, an extremely few number had two, and as for three, no one has been said to have had one ever since the beginning of time. It is said that the earth is made up of different elements, these elements have existed since the beginning of time and will exist till the end of it. During the time of one’s birth, one is chosen by an element based on his/her personality and state of mind. Once an element chooses you, it will become your affinity. It is for this reason that by studying someone’s personality, you can easily know what elemental affinity they possess.
Of these elements, there are some that are common like: Earth, Metal, Fire, Water, Wood and Wind while there are others that a rare such as Space, Void and Darkness.
One is only able to know his affinity five years after birth. The reason for this is that during the time of five years from birth, the elemental affinity will be assimilating into the body. Only upon complete assimilation is one able to get a feel of what his affinity is. The revelation of affinity comes as an epiphany.
For example if you have the affinity for fire, upon your revelation you feel as though the world in front of your eyes is getting scorched in flames. It does not actually happen, but that is what you feel.
The reason why affinities are so important is that, during the casting of spells, though someone without the water affinity may cast a simple water spell, his mana will be largely depleted as opposed to someone with the affinity who could cast it effortlessly.
In this world, all you need to do for you to cast a spell in your affinity is to think about it. Provided you have enough mana for what you want to do, it will succeed. And it is exactly for this reason that strength in this world is measured by the amount of mana one can store in their body. The range goes from E-A-S-SS-SSS. The ranges are then further divided into lower, middle and upper per class.
While most children are born with the strength of E, few, mostly those born to royalty may be born a bit higher. As queens must be strong for them to rule, they naturally sire children with fathers that are strong too. It is because of this that most of the children born to queens usually start at around C rank.
It is even rumored that the daughter of the empress was born at B rank.
While the rankings of strength go all the way from E-SSS, there is not a single high human through history that had been able to achieve the rank of SSS. The highest rank that had ever been achieved was SS, and that was done by the current empress. Even though she is only at the lower SS rank, she is still the strongest high human alive.
The reason why the high humans decided to incorporate such high ranking even when they themselves were unable to achieve it, was because of the dragons. Dragons, even when just born would be at S rank, hence the only known SSS rank being to ever be seen was a dragon.
As Dusk thought about this, he was extremely proud of his mom. For her to be one of the few strongest high humans at middle S rank at just 157 years of age, added to the fact that she had two elemental affinities, water and earth, she could be considered a genius. Comparing himself who was only at middle C rank to her, he felt like nothing.
Dusk also came to learn that it is still because of mana that high humans did not need to eat. As all High humans are able to store mana, they subconsciously use it as energy to power their activities hence they do not need to eat.
From his mother’s memory, Dusk came to discover that in his family, apart from him, he had two elder sisters. The reason why he had never met them was because both his sisters were at the academy where they had gone to learn magic.
His first sister resembled his mum so much that should you put them together, you will be unable to tell who is who.
Just like his mother, his first born sister Seria Moonlight was a twenty-year-old looking lady that had long black hair that fell all the way to her back. She had slightly upward slanted eyes with black iris that seemed to scream motherly affection. She was equipped with an ample bust and a very well curved behind that seemed to emphasize her womanly charm. As opposed to her mother who often wore loose fitting clothes, she would often be spotted wearing body hugging dresses.
Perhaps where Seria differed the most from her mother was that while her mother was a person who was kind and affectionate by nature, she was a person who was more pragmatic. More of an icy beauty per say. As she had strength at the lower A rank with the rare darkness attribute, she could also be considered a genius.
His other sister Sunny Moonlight was the complete opposite of the first born. She had shoulder length hazel brown hair, dark brown eyes and could often be seen wearing shorts. She looked fifteen years of age and had a sort of a tomboyish feel to her. The constant smile on her face and her constant talking easily gave off her fire affinity where she was at the upper B rank.
Dusk was really happy to learn this information, as to him, the more people in the family, the better.
The last part that left Dusk completely amazed was his appearance. He looked so different from anything he would have imagined. But while his look was different, it was totally …..
Awesome!
Btw guys, this was an info dump type chapter so I'm sorry if it was boring. The next one will definitely be better

The Chronicles of Artharian Dagworth
Back in 2020 there were many theories on how the world would end. From the many religions apocalypses, nuclear wars that would leave the planet inhabitable, global warming doing the same, biological weapons getting out of control, viruses mutating into unstoppable diseases to the dead raising to prey on humanity, either due to a virus or just because hell filled up. Also, aliens, from the war mongering kind to the ones so advanced they didn’t see us as more than worms. And of course there was the fail proof theory that the world would end when the sun died. In a bunch of billion years give or take. Althougth some new scientist were discussing if the end would be on the take side, since when the sun started dying things would go haywire on the entire solar system and we would collide with mercury or maybe mars way before the expanding sun engulfed earth. But I digress… Now, those were the mainstream theories that the everyday Joe, who didn’t know the big secret, worried about. So, if you were to ask me which theory was correct I can tell you that I haven’t seen any little green man, at least not from another planet, and so far the sun is still shining, although it’s been only 9 years since everything went to hell, not the few billions (give or take) the scientist predicted, so that one isn’t ruled out yet. These two aside, I'd say all of them. Hey everyone, this is my first attempt at writing. I have been planning to do it for a really long time, and while this is not the one epic fantasy idea I ever wanted to write, I think it's a good one. The plan is to write an end of the world urban-fantasy series. Think a world like Dresden Files, Alex Verus, Iron druid, where magic is real but exist hidden from society meets the apocalypse. It will be written in first person in the Dresden Files style, no plans for other POV for now. As you probally alredy guessed from my style, english is not my first langague, so while google corrector helps, expect grammar errors, and I'd be gratefull for anyone to point them. I plan to write 2 to 3 chapters a week, 2000-4000 words each. Might change as I get more experience and depends on my free time. Cover image from the colections of getwallpapers.com
