placed her hands on top of the wheel. "i seriously don't understand why i can't just drive us home," yong complained to the other girls. "i'm gonna pretend you never said that and continue driving," wheein said to the other.

after the day where yong drove them to school. wheein had taken it upon herself to make drive them home. "guys, i think tomorrow's gonna snow," hyejin clasped her hands together. "the season where hot chocolate, sweaters, and warm blankets come in handy," byul added the fuel to hyejin's already burning love for winter.

"also," hyejin added "someone's birthday is coming up," hyejin teased the older," byul rolled her eyes. "please don't do what you did last year," the second oldest continued to scroll through her phone. "what? last year was so fun," yongsun frowned.

"maybe for you," hyejin chuckled. "oh my god, wheein you don't understand. last year they set up a surprise birthday party for me and even got a rentable goat," byul shook her head in slight disappointment.

"it was fun for you yong, me and hyejin had to clean up," byul glared at the older before returning to scroll through her phone. "hey don't look at me like that," yongsun pouted.

byul smiled and decided to not reply. "guys," hyejin bugged the three. "what," wheein turned a corner. "i was wondering if we should do something tomorrow, y'now since we never do anything other than watch movies at each other's house," a small chuckle left yongsun's lips. "i guess we can go," yongsun thought for a second "bowling?"

byulyi and hyejin looked at yongsun questionably. "you suck at bowling," byulyi pointer her slim finger at the oldest. as a result, the older glared at the finger. "don't you 'you suck at bowling' me!" yongsun imitated the younger, hyejin chucked at the two bickering. "i am older than you, apologize, moon byulyi!" yongsun crossed her arms and looked away dramatically.

"you guys are ten," wheein sighed as she pulled up at the oldest's house. byul stuck her tongue out and dashed towards the front of the house (she literally hid in front of the door so that yongsun couldn't hit her).

hyejin stood inside the familiar house. "do you have any snacks, yong," she ran towards the kitchen. "don't eat all the snacks or i'll go over there myself and hit you," yongsun happily walked into her room.

that left wheein and hyejin inside the kitchen. by themselves. the unusual tension between the two began to rise (at least that's what hwasa would describe it). "so," hyejin snatched a bag of chips and sat happily at the bar stool.

"listen hyejin, i have something to tell you," wheein stared at the girl intently. hyejin's ears began turning pink. "uh—what," hyejin almost choked on the chip inside her throat. "i got into my dream college,"

a wave of relief and disappointment ran over hyejin. "that's good," hyejin smiled at the girl. "what college do you want to get into," hyejin thought carefully.

she didn't particularly want to go to a specific college. hyejin's plan was to maybe go to a business school, or culinary to cook for herself.

"i guess business," wheein happily looked at the girl and wished her a good luck. "give me my phone back!" byul's voice boomed throughout the house, yongsun's laughter following. "i could tell people they're younger than us, and they'd believe it," wheein chuckled before running towards the chaos.

hyejin slumped inside her seat.

the pent up feelings she had for wheein was being forced to come to an end. they weren't going to the same college (hyejin was sure with her grades, absences, and tardies that prestigious school would not let her in) and hyejin was sure something was going to happen.

graduation was coming up in two weeks and hyejin had earned herself one scholarship at an average college (which is actually really good). what was funny, byulyi, yongsun, and hyejin were so close to each other, probably thirty minutes away from each other. but wheein? she was four hours away and hyejin wished she could go with the girl.

one side of hyejin told herself to tell wheein before she left, but the other said it was a terrible idea and would make everything awkward, and things were already so, so good. byulyi walked into the kitchen and looked at the girl with remorse.

"hey, hyejin?" the said girl looked up. "you should say something before she leaves. it's gonna hurt so much knowing you had the chance but never took it," byulyi grabbed a glass and filled it with water.

"trust me," byul gave her signature dimpled smile. instead of replying, hyejin decided to look away. it's just gonna go away hyejin thought. these depressing thoughts have been parading hyejin's mind like crazy. "don't stress about this too much, okay?" byulyi gave a thumbs up and left the kitchen, hyejin following suite.

"you okay, jinnie," wheein momentarily looked at hyejin before staring at her phone again. "perfectly fine, just peachy," hyejin snarked and sat on the floor. "how many mood swings do you have in a day, geez hyejin," yongsun bonked hyejin on the head.

"too many to count," hyejin pouted at the older. "let's watch movies," yongsun clung onto her lover. wheein and hyejin kept an unnaturally large distance between each other. "can i talk to you?" hyejin texted wheein.

the girl nodded and wordlessly walked out of the room.

"what's that about," yongsun looked at byul. "i dunno," yongsun was about to get up. "should we help them?" byul shook her head and brought the older closer. "we shouldn't interfere,"

hyejin stood awkwardly outside with wheein. "something's different between us" hyejin visibly looked upset. "and you know it," the hesitation in hyejin's voice was clear and evident. "hyejin, listen," wheein fumbled with her fingers.

"i know about you know—," wheein started moving her hands around weirdly "you're—uhm—feelings about us," wheein motioned her hands between the two of them. "how'd you find out," the lioness tried to sound as nonchalant as she could, but the panic inside of her was starting to simmer and was going to explode.

"i overheard you and byul talking," wheein looked at the girl apologetically. "i'm so sorry, hyejin,"

"does this change everything?" hyejin looked at everything other than wheein. "of course not," wheein reassured the younger. "then why'd you stay like ten feet away from me," hyejin crossed her arms. "it's nothing hyejin. so what if we sat far away from each other," wheein tried to reason.

"because this is different! you're treating me different from before and i don't know what to do about it," hyejin's voice began to raise "i don't want things to change between us, wheein," hyejin's voice was cracking and it hurt wheein so, so much.

"it won't. i promise," hyejin looked at the girl with so much regret. "i don't think we'd be together anyways," wheein mumbled underneath her breath.

"guys, we're putting on avatar!" byul's voice was heard from the two. "let's go back in there," hyejin hesitantly nodded and followed wheein inside yongsun's room

(shouts could be heard from outside the room. "we should do something," yongsun fidgeted in her spot. "what would make the situation less bad," the older began to think but nothing came to mind. "guys, we're putting on avatar!" byul shouted while yongsun jumped in suprise. "tell me before you do that," she quickly jabbed byul and went back to cuddling the girl.)

"you guys look comfy," wheein pointed at the dazed look on byulyi's face. "did y'all make out?" hyejin questioned like nothing happened. more like punched in the stomach byul thought.

"let's watch!" yongsun threw a piece of popcorn in her mouth. byulyi and hyejin were stuffing themselves with pizza, while wheein drank her soda happily.

tears brimmed the girls eyes. "his whole culture was killed!" yongsun sadly cried. "shhh, you might spoil the show," byul shoved a piece of popcorn inside of yongsun's mouth. "who'd i be spoiling it for?" yongsun rolled her eyes (yes, byul just broke the fourth wall).

the four laid inside yong's comfortable room. two laid on the bed the other two laid (far away from each other) on the blanketed floor.

everything fit like a puzzle piece. this was what hyejin envisioned them. four best friends watching movies and a couple cuddling together.

it's a shame the couple couldn't be hyejin and wheein.

this was a good distraction for hyejin. it made sure all her pent up feelings were pushed into the back of her mind and stayed there.

but distractions only work for so long.
