《Vanilla Smoke (Blue Exorcist)》Chapter 13

Just as everyone, except Shuku, had separated Rin and Ryuji, Yukio and the Magic Circles teacher walked in. Rin fell silent and gave the teacher a glare.
"Yukio, that guy he's our-" Before Rin could finish, someone appeared out of the ceiling, kicking Rin square in the back, sending him straight into the wall.
"Win got kicked!" Shuku giggled, and Yukio cast her a WTF look.
"Mephisto!" Rin exclaimed at the sudden appearance of the director. Hebimaru also slithered down from the ceiling, slithering over to his injured master, who cuddled him.
"Hola, my young pages and thank you for all your hard work!" He exclaimed.
"Hoi~!" Shuku responded, the director looked over at Shuku, who was lying on the floor, cuddling her vicious looking familiar, in a pool of her own blood with a big smile.
"Oh dear." He said, then got back on focus.
"It's... It's the director." Bon mumbled.
"What's he doing here?" Shima asked.
He turned around to face the pages, "You didn't think I'd let an upper-level demon just waltz onto my campus, did you?" He asked, a gleam in his eye along with a sly smile, then snapped his fingers. The room shook a bit and Exorcists hiding in every nook and cranny revealed themselves.
"Instructors with doctor credentials tend to the wounded and give Shuku something to clear her up." Mephisto ordered and the teacher went into action. They picked up Shuku who then passed out and an unconscious Shiemi. Every one of the students looked tired.
"You guys were..." Bon started but trailed off.
"Surprise! This was no ordinary boot camp kids, in fact, you just completed your Exwire authorization exam!" He exclaimed, clapping his hands. Everyone was stunned, but not in a good way.
"It's rather sneaky, I know. We had a team of instructors hidden throughout the building in places where they could observe your every move. After I have a chance to review their reports I'll be the one to determine who passed and who failed. I'm sure you're as anxious as I did to see how you did." He winked, and everyone deadpanned, except those who were unconscious.
After that, everyone was moved to the hospital to get checked out on. Shuku and Shiemi the most urgent.
"Man, that was the worst pop quiz ever!" Rin sighed, sitting on Shiemi's bed. Bon sat in a chair and Shima and Konekomaru sat on the sleeping Shuku's bed, who slept soundly at the opposite end.
"They tricked us pretty good." Bon said.
"I wish I would've known because then I could've prepared for it." Shima mentioned.
"Oh boy, I wonder if I passed?" Konekomaru worried.
"Don't torture yourself, there's no use worrying about it now." Ryuji comforted him.

"You and Shima don't have to worry, b-but me, I was so scared I couldn't move my legs!" He cried.
"I'm sure you guys are going to be fine, remember what Mr. Okumura told us before the test started, being an Exwire requires cooperation and have to work with their tea during combat. In that sense, no one did worse than me." Izumo said solemnly, clenching her fists tightly.
"You need to cut yourself some slack there. You stepped up, unlike those guys who sat around. You got anything to say for yourselves? Huh?!" Bon shouted backward at the guy in the hoodie and the one with the puppet.
"Oh sweet, I just earned myself a dragon's claw." The guy in the hoodie said, which made no sense.
"Ha, why don't you shut cha pie hole! We don't have anything to say to a bunch of whiny brats like you!" The guy with the puppet made the puppet say.
Rin was shocked that they actually responded, and Ryuji got pissed. Shiemi groaned and sat up, and Shuku yawned, and opened her eyes, but didn't make any effort to move.
"Aw, shoot I woke you two up."Rin apologized.
"Nah. I just feel like total crap. I. Regret. All. Of. My. Actions. In. The. Last. 5 minutes. Of my memory." Shuku growled to herself.
"Oh no, it's ok. I'm feeling better now, really." Shiemi said tiredly.
"I don't." Shuku added.
"What were you guys talking about, and Shuku, don't be so rude" Shiemi chided quietly.
"Just about the exams" Shima said, "and how awesome you were!" Konekomaru added.
"If you weren't there Moriyama, I don't know what would've happened to us. We owe you, big time." Ryuji thanked, bowing his head to a sleepy Blondie. She opened her eyes and blink, a blush spreading across her face.
"N-no! I should be thanking you!" She said startled.
"I know you'll pass the exam, without a doubt." Ryuji supported
"Yeah, if you don't pass, we're definitely not going to pass." Shima said.
Shuku was utterly confused. "Hey! I must be out of the loop, but what exam?" She asked.
"Oh yeah, after you're *cough* scene *cough* You passed out and didn't hear the director's explanation. The whole this that happened was a setup for the Expire exam." Shima explained, and Shuku blinked.
"Yeah, um, Shuku? How'd you do that thing where you just vanished without a trace. Only to show up all... weird with Okumura?" Nerd asked.
"Yeah, you did kind of magically appear after my fight, tired and out of breath." Rin noted.
"In a sec. Has anyone seen my pen? I could really use it at the moment" Shuku asked, delaying.

Ryuji pulled something out of his pocket and tossed it to Shuku, who caught it and took a long breath from it, "Thanks... Bon." Shuku thanked, using his nickname, a slight blush on her cheeks from embarrassment and Bon blinked in shock.
"No problem, I found it on the floor after you vanished. It makes a good weapon, even if it's not designed to be one. You lit a teacher on fire with it and burned a demon with it. You're not half bad in a fight. So what was that thing you did, an incantation, right?" He asked and Shuku nodded.
"Yup, a forbidden one at that. Went through a lot to get my hands on it too. It's saved my life in more than one situation." Shuku said, not completely answering the question.
"Forbidden? Why's that, and what exactly did it do?" Konekomaru asked.
"It's forbidden because someone can die using it and because it drains one both mentally and physically. That side effect about what happened is to never be talked about again." Shuku warned darkly.
"What you mean by 'someone can die using it', does that mean you used it and could have died?" Ryuji asked seriously. Shuku took another puff from her pen.
"Hm, either that or I'd be unable to return back to myself. Didn't you listen to what I said? The incantation lets one leave the physical world and become light and shadow itself. I used it to get to Okumura ASAP and avoid taking along the other ghoul as well. But I didn't have the energy to end it the right time and I wore off after I watched Rin's fight, unable to do jack crap unless I killed myself in the process." Shuku informed them coolly, then yawned.
"Then why'd you use it then!? You could have died!" Bon shouted at her in rage, and she gave him an uncaring face.
"I wouldn't have used it if I was at any risk. I had already used up half of my energy by the time I performed it, that flame thrower was enhanced by a different one. I had just enough to get to Rin without dying. I know the risks. I don't need to be told how to deal with my own life!" Shuku shouted at a shocked Bon's face, "Sorry. But I know what I'm doing." Shuku apologized.
"Oh, Shuku, why were you out of breath when you appeared then? I still don't get that." Rin asked.
"Rin, when one is made of light, breathing isn't necessary" Shuku answered, and yawned.
"Master Shuku." Hebimaru came over between the beds and bowed his head to Shuku. "I apologize for failing the mission you assigned me. I had encountered one of the exorcists in the ceiling and they wouldn't let me leave to inform you of them." He apologized.
"It's fine Hebimaru. You're not the one at fault. I understand. I wasn't needed in the end anyways." Shuku smiled at her familiar's sincerity. The moment was ruined when the boys gawked at her. "What?!"
"You.... You smiled!" Rin shouted like it was the strangest thing the world, "For real this time!" Shuku blinked, then scoffed.
"So then, do you know any other ones. Incarnations are hard to come by, especially higher level ones that have more risk to them." Konekomaru asked.
"Yea, I know four by heart, two are forbidden, one is an enhancer, and the last one I'm never using unless I'm going to die anyways." Shuku nearly growled the last part. "So, can we please change the subject before I want to punch something?"Shuku asked brightly, but it clearly wasn't a bright statement.
"So.... Okumura, how'd you kill that ghoul all by yourself, since Shuku wasn't able to do anything." Konekomaru asked.
Rin blinked, he couldn't tell them how he actually did it. "Oh... well I, uh... sort of, shoved this into it." Rin said, like a dumbass, pointing at his sword.
"Woah, that's amazing! Maybe you should try to be a knight." Nerd exclaimed, and Shuku deadpanned. He was actually satisfied by the answer. Just, wow.
"What do you mean 'shoved into it' could you be any more vague? If you ask me you and Shuku are the mysterious ones." Bon deadpanned.
"Ok" was all Shuku responded.
"I don't look it, but I got this certain mistake about it." Rin said, messing up the pronunciation.
"Ha! He said mistake!" Shima laughed
"Oh, I meant mistake. Misgoot!" Rin tried to correct.
"It's mystique you dumbass." Bon correctly corrected, "Shuku, how'd he beat up the demon?"
"Huh? Oh, I would like to say he shoved his sword up its ass, then had a panic attack-" "Hey!" "But he shoved it in the demon's face like a total badass." Shuku said, interrupted by Rin in the middle.
Rin looked relieved by her answer, but Bon didn't like it. There was still so much to Shuku that he didn't get. She hid her gender in the beginning and still dresses the same. She can do high level, and forbidden incantations, and uses blades like he's never seen before. Rin wasn't any better, and he'd never seen Shuku or Rin fight at full strength. They were the mysterious ones.

Tale of a Cruel World
A world where civilization is worthless and the meanderings of the wild bend humanity to its knees. This the tale of a cruel world, seemingly destined never to find peace. Through calamity after catastrophe, through silence and storm, its people have survived. Though, soon the final calamity will come. A clone of the strongest, most feared mage, Calamitas, bioengineered to only feel 'positive' emotions, and an ordinary hunter fighting to protect his dying sister begin their journey with a wish to rid a city of plaguebrought strife. (This is based on the Calamity Mod for Terraria, but should be perfectly readable to any normal viewers. To make its universe into a living, breathing place requires liberties enough to make this almost 'my own' world, so keep in mind that this isn't a very 'conventional' fanfiction(or maybe it is, I don't actually know the conventions).)
8 135NEWDIE STEADSLAW Part I
NEWDIE STEADSLAW is a randomized array of Chekhov's red herrings, non sequitors ex machina, run-on sentences, and em dashes—so many em dashes. It's like if the Bible and Shakespeare had a baby that they surrendered to foster care, then it got adopted by Alice in Wonderland and Dr. Seuss—the books, not the people—and then the baby fell down the stairs. In this metaphor, the stairs wrote the story. Part I is the tale of the adventures of Traycup and Roby as they try to hold down a job inside the hollow Earth—a place made possible thanks to the secret science of embargoed relativity—and they get distracted by dancing foxes, a giant's record collection, and something with a train, I think. It's a work of fiction—although to call it work seems insulting to, y'know, actual work—but the fiction label is apt, so, y'know, that's a win. Half the words are made up, and the other half are embarrassed to be seen with them. Part I is complete.
