《Stuck With Him: Kai Parker》16

Opening my eyes, I let out a big yawn and fused my eyebrows together when I saw an unfamiliar ceiling.
I slowly sat up and yawned again, rubbing my eyes. I didn't realise I was smudging my makeup until I saw the black mark of my hand.
"Great." I huffed. I then noticed the black dress on my body and my eyebrows rose. Everything came back to me and I realised I was with Kol and his siblings.
I climbed off the bed, kicking my heels off and walked over to the door. I yanked the doorknob and sighed when the door didn't move.
"Kol!" I yelled, bashing the door. "Open the door. Kol!"
My hand continuously whacked against the hard wood and I waited for a response. "Kitten calm-"
"I swear to god, call me kitten again and I'll murder you." I interrupted, frowning at the door.
Kol laughed from the other side of the door. "You haven't changed a bit."
"Kol, please." I whined, my voice nicer. "If you love me, let me go."
There was a moment of silence before I heard a click and the door opened. Kol walked in and looked at me, cupping my face. "No."
I scowled and he laughed, planting a small kiss on my forehead. "It's nice to see you awake my dear."
"What did you do to me?"
Kol ran his thumb down my cheek. "You were overreacting, so I had to calm you down."
I rose a brow. "But I'm on vervain, you can't-"
"I'm an original, honey." He chuckled. "Besides, it won't happen again."
"You promise?"
He nodded with a smile. "I promise, Raq-"
"Riley." I corrected.
He rolled his eyes. "Riley." Kol said. "I just don't want to lose you again my love." He said, with a calm voice. His eyes met mine. "I love you too much to let go and I've spent too long without you with me."
I pursed my lips together.
"But I don't want to leave Mystic Falls." I said. "I like it here and you are practically kidnapping me."
Kol smiled. "If I must, I'll wait a while before we go to New Orleans."
My head perked up. "Really?"
He laughed. "No." I frowned and he kissed my forehead. "Don't worry, you will love it in New Orleans."
"No."
"Kitten-"
I huffed. "Enough with that."
"Fine, Riley." He said. "I assure you nothing bad will happen."
I raised a brow. "Then can I go back to my friends?"
"You mean that witch?"
"No."
Kol raised a brow. "I've lived for a long time Riley, I know when someone is lying."
I groaned. "You're so unfair."
"And you're still beautiful." He kissed me softly before leaving the room without another word. I folded my arms over my chest with a frown.
"I have such a great taste in men." I muttered under my breath as I laid back down on the bed.

"How to escape?" I looked around the bedroom. I checked in the wardrobe for anything useful. "Clothes, clothes and more clothes."
"You're not escaping." I jumped, turning around and seeing Rebekah there. "Riley, my brother has just got back the love of his life. You are staying."
"How did you-"
"We're original vampire, we can hear very well."
I cursed under my breath. "Right, I forgot."
She hummed. "Now, Riley please just stay here and calm down or come downstairs."
"I'll might stay here." I said, fake yawning. "I'm kinda tired anyway." Rebekah rose a brow but nodded. "Can I have some food though? I'm starving."
"Do I look like a waitress?"
"Do I look like I care?" I fired back with a grin. Rebekah smiled.
"It's good to have you back, Raquel." She said, walking over to the door.
"It's-" The door being shut and locked interrupted me. "Riley."
I sighed, running my hands through my hair. "Shit." I swore, tripping over my heels, that were on the floor, and stumbled onto the bed.
"Ow." I mumbled against the blankets. I decided to free myself from my dress and changed into a shirt from the wardrobe and washed away my smudged makeup in the bathroom connected.
Adjusting the shirt down, it was a plain white dress shirt. I didn't know who it belonged to though.
I wondered, walking around the bedroom.
Even though I was hungry, I wanted to leave even more. I looked out the window and mentally rolled my eyes.
"I'm such an idiot." I said.
Shaking my head, I sighed and ran my hand through my hair. I thought. I remembered Kai taught me a spell to make my actions silent.
"How did it go again?"
Before I could think, the door was unlocked and opened. I dived onto the bed and Rebekah gave me a strange look with a tray in her hands.
"You seem stranger than usual." She told me as she set the tray on the nearby dresser.
"I'm just trying to-"
"What are you wearing?"
I looked down at the shirt then back at her with a shrug. "I found it in the wardrobe." I said. "My dress was getting uncomfortable."
Rebekah shook her head. "I wouldn't let Kol see this."
"Why?"
She laughed. "Because that's Elijah's shirt."
"Oh." I said. "Is Kol like possessive or something?"
"Yes, very."
"Oh." I repeated. "Well there isn't anything else to wear."
Rebekah gave a small shrug. "I suppose you have a point." She said. "I mean, he did you bring into Elijah's bedroom."
I nodded. "Thanks for the food, Rebekah."
"It's alright, hun." She said before leaving the bedroom. The door closed and locked behind her.
"Time to eat." I shoved a mouthful of food into my mouth and hummed in joy.
While chewing on the food, I adjusting the pillows and blankets to look like me.

I slowly chanted the spell and grinned when the window opened in utter silence. Quickly, I shoved more food into my mouth before I began to climb out of the window.
Using the tree to not fall to my death, I slowly made my way down. I peered back at the house and saw it was as big as a mansion, it was beautiful. When my feet touched the grass, I let out a deep breath and rested my hands on my knees.
"Easy." I sighed, running a hand through my hair. I looked around and ducked at the window. Yet, my curiosity ate at me and I peeked my head up.
I watched the siblings discuss something in the living room. My eyebrows raised up and I wished I knew what they were saying.
Sniffling slightly, I suddenly sneezed and my eyes widened. I saw the vampire stop in their conversations and glance over.
Thankfully, I dived on the ground just in time. I crawled my way along the grass further away from the window.
I thought, rolling my eyes. When I made it far enough away from the window. I stood up and made a run for it.

"Riley?" Liv questioned, when she opened her dorm room. "Where the hell have you been?"
I panted to catch my breath, Elijah's shirt was torn and splattered muddied. My hair was a mess and I had dirt and cuts all over me.
It was a long run, I ran for around two hours at least. "What happened to you?" She asked while I entered the room.
I sat down on her bed. "Damon." I said, laying down with exhaustion. "He gave me to Kol......he and his siblings.......wanted to take me to.....New Orleans."
Liv raised her eyebrows. "Why would he do that?"
I shrugged. "I don't know, I just didn't want to go. They wouldn't let me leave so I ran away."
"How far did you run?"
"Far."
She laughed slightly. "Riley, why don't you get cleaned up, you can burrow my clothes."
I nodded. "Thanks, I kind of ruined Elijah's shirt anyway."
"Who's Elijah?"
"Kol's brother."
"Is he hot?"
I hummed and stood up. "They all are." I sighed. "I should wash."
"Yeah, you look like shit."
I showed her my middle finger and she laughed. Liv lent me some clothes and I washed, putting on the clothes. It was a pair of running shorts along with a vest.
Throwing Elijah's shirt in the bin, I ran my hands through my hair and sighed. Apart of me felt bad for leaving Kol again, but another part was mad at him since he was practically holding me hostage.
Outside was still dark outside, it was coming up to eleven. "I need to see Kai." I told Liv, she looked at me and shook her head.
"Why?"
"Because, I need to see if he's alright."
She hummed and rose a brow. "You like him, don't you?"
I blushed for a small second. "No, I don't." I said. "He's my friend."
Liv nodded with an eyebrow raised. "Yeah, friends." She sounded unconvinced.
"Shut up." I said with a laugh. "Anyway, where is he?"
"At Damon and Stefan's house."
I thought.
"Great, Liv I'm going to need you to do me a favour."
She looked at me from her phone screen. "What?"
"I need you to teach me how to do a clocking spell."
Her eyebrows fused together. "Why?"
I sighed. "I need to make sure, Damon doesn't kill Kai." I paused and shrugged. "We're bonded what happens to him, happens to me."
"Why would he do that?"
"Because he knows no one will hurt him if I get hurt."
Liv scoffed. "He's such a clever asshole."
I laughed. "That he is."
Liv showed me her phone which showed the time. "Riley, I would show you the spell but it's late."
"And...."
"I can't be bothered and you look exhausted."
I yawned slightly. "I'm not tired."
Liv hummed. "Just wait until morning, you can sleep here. My roommate is never in."
"Okay." I shrugged, laying down in the bed. As soon as my face hit the pillow, I went into my dreamland.

"Okay, I think I got it." I told her with a nod. "I can do this."
"Are you sure?" Liv asked. "Because you have a bad memory."
I laughed. "I'm good, I remember it."
"Then repeat it."
I repeated the spell to Liv, she was teaching me how to do a cloaking spell. It wasn't easy to learn and Liv spent a good amount of time repeating it to me.
"Well done, Riley."
I smiled. "I know, I am amazing."
"You're head is so big."
I scoffed. "That is rude Liv." She smiled and I stood up. "Can I burrow some shoes?" I pointed down at my bare feet.
"Yeah just take all of my clothes." She huffed and I sent her a wink.
"Well they do look rather nice on me." I teased, spinning around. She lent me a pair of cargo trousers with a black long sleeved crop top.
Liv scoffed and threw a pair of shoes at me along with some socks. I dodged them but sent her a smile, slipping them on. "Thank you."
"Do you have your phone?" Liv asked, while I finished with my laces. I shook my head.
"Nope, I haven't seen it since I was at the school with Elena and Kai." I told her, running my hands through my hair. "But if I'm not back in two hours, then something happened and I'm dead."
Liv rolled her eyes. "Got it, so I'll hopefully see you later."
I nodded with a laugh. "Bye." I waved, leaving her dorm. I walked out of the college, through the streets.
As much as I hoped that Kol and his siblings didn't notice my disappearance, I had a hunch they already knew.
I soon came close to Damon and Stefan's house. I muttered the spell, praying that it worked as I went inside using the backdoor.

A Standard Model of Magic
The world ended, and magic came back. The part our parents didn't expect, was for Science to break on reentry. Twenty years after the apocalypse, with our nations dismantled and hidden continents unearthed, a new generation has grown up in the wreckage of 21st century civilization. For us, the fantastic is at our doorstep and we have had no choice but to fight back. Meanwhile, the laws of nature bend and break at the whims of immortal gods, all of which are now dead and none of which are content to stay that way. But we cannot afford to give up. We are the stewards of a rewritten century, in which a little luck and a whole lot of magic might make anything possible – maybe even a world better than the one we lost. A Standard Model of Magic is a complete overhaul of my old story A Storm in the Fall. I'm afraid I was unhappy with the LitRPG elements, which I don't mind reading, but I apparently loath writing. Sorry. Once I'd made the choice to decouple the story from the OF that inspired it and reconfigure the magic system to my satisfaction, little of the original plotline survived. I will be salvaging most of my original characters, and I will keep some elements which are endemic to the genre, but that is all. I don't have an update schedule which I can commit to yet, but I will try to maintain a weekly pace.(This is currently RoyalRoad exclusive, since I'm lazy. If you find it posted elsewhere, it wasn't me and it wasn't with permission) If you're interested, I've set up a discord.
