《Burn Archer》Twenty Two- Poisoned

You're Sebastian Lowell," I breathed out.
I felt heartbroken to know that Ash's family had been lost and he had nobody. "Who else knows?"
"Nobody," he paused. "I left the house and started a new life as Ash in the Maya House and they trained me."
He told me about his secret, and nobody else. Suddenly I felt a pinch of guilt. Did I force him into telling me? "Ash, I'm sorry if I-"
"I told you because I wanted to. It's been such a long time; it might be nice to hear my name for a change."
"Sebastian, where were your... ancestors from?"
As his name escaped my mouth, he seemed complete and the name seemed to fit him.
"Well back in Meyer, I've heard that we used to live near the north. And my specific type, just like Ellas' and the others, our families were warriors. Gifted in war and protection and all that shit."
"Language" I eyed him through my laughter.
"All that stuff" He exaggerated. "Alright now tell me what your origin in."
"My dad's family is from India but he was raised in Tasmania. I'm not exactly sure where my mum's from but she says that her roots are Australian. I grew up in Adelaide," I spoke, aware that Sebastian probably didn't have a clue what I blabbered about.
Suddenly I jerked my head up and got on my feet. "Guess what my full name is!"
"Burn... Archer?" he asked. "It's a really nice name, now that I think of it."
"Yeah well Archer is my dad's last name which I kept as my main last name," I said as I paced around. "But my real name is quite long."
"Auburn Archer Katherine Sien," I paused. "Katherine's my mum's last name and Sien is the name my parents picked to be our family name."

Sebastian jumped to his feet. "That's a pretty name; can I call you Auburn instead of Burn?"
"Definitely not! I changed my name for a reason!"
"And what reason was that?"
I laughed and answered, "Because Auburn sounds a little old-fashioned"
My clothes had dried up, so I backed away from the fire that Sebastian had made earlier.
Suddenly, I spotted a large blue spider climbing up his leg. I slowly pulled out my knife and dusted it off his leg. Then I jerked it into its flesh and some of it splashed on my hand.
He screamed and fell backwards onto the rocks.
"What the hell are you doing?!" he screamed as he clutched his leg.
His eyes slowly glared down at the spider with the knife jarred into it. "That was a blue poison spider; it kills anything it touches in 36 hrs."
"Well it's a good thing you had jeans on."
Suddenly Sebastian's eyes went cold and the blood rushed away from his face. He came closer to me, trembling, glaring at my hand.
"What have you done," he spoke, voice shaking, and his finger shaking, as he pointed to the part of my hand glowing.
I covered my mouth with my other hand and it was my turn to fall back. "What."
"You brushed that spider off with your hand, and the flesh of it, came on you," Sebastian whispered.
"Oh my god," I mouthed.
"What's going to happen to me now?"
"Well, the glowing will spread to your whole body and then you'll die," he said quietly pacing around me.
I thought about all those times when I didn't care about dying and risking myself for others. But this was different. Now that I was dying, I didn't want to.
I had always thought that if I had died, it would make up for my mistake of letting Atlantis get killed. But she wouldn't want this for me and I felt something.
I felt afraid and lonely. A sob left my mouth and I covered it in panic.
"I'm dangerous now, and people can die if they touch me, right?" I asked myself more than Sebastian. "What am I?"
"Burn, you're infected," a familiar voice came from behind me.

Beyond Floating
Muse thought her life had ended twenty years ago because, well, it had. Existing aimlessly for two decades as a ghost, she finds herself yanked along in a rip-tide of strange events. Thrust unwittingly into the midst of a group of paranormal hitmen-for-hire led by a man named Isaac. Michael, a normally rational and righteous holy soldier of God, succumbs to revenge and hatred, sacrificing everything in the fight to destroy Isaac and everyone who associates with him. Muse, by virtue of her inadvertent association with Isaac, is on that list. This is actually my first 'finished' fiction that I've ever written, which I completed about 8 years ago. I dug it up recently and I'm posting it as I thought people here might get a kick out of it. So, take that for what you will. Chapters will be released daily at 6:00pm EST.

BODY&SHADOW
AN ILLUSTRATED NOVEL • UPDATES TUESDAY AND FRIDAY In a time before living memory, the King Dragon of the Void watched the world and realized there was a crack. He realized that humanity was destroying the rock upon which they lived; they leaked life’s code into the churning chaos. At first the change was imperceptible: nanites overtook microorganisms, bacteria, viruses, amoebas. Insects became increasingly inorganic; birds and lizards followed soon after. Even humans were infected by their own advances, cell by cell, till there was not a person left on earth who wasn’t at least part synthetic, the product of a prior generation’s carelessness. The world’s population was ravaged by mechanical viruses with no vaccines; they were mercilessly overtaken by bacteria that knew no death. Soon, most of the planet was empty and only a handful remained who remembered the hedonist realm they came from; only a few were left who remembered what the world looked like when their buildings touched the sky. The King Dragon of the Void watched the rock turn. He watched humans cower as the Old World fell down around them; watched their great monuments crumble into dusty ruins; watched their codes become precious, ancient gem memories forged under the crushing pressure of so many fallen stones. The world has spun many times around the sun since chaos swallowed man whole. It is a simpler time than the one that died out, but the people now are not immune to the folly of the people before. There is old code everywhere: in the water, in the air, in the trees. The heart of man has been replaced by power cores, many of which are hard-coded with preternatural abilities—when they die, an esoteric mountain sect collects their cores and stores them in their hollow mountain home to preserve the sanctity and dignity of human death. They’ve learned to harness artifacts of the old world, gemstones full of codes their nanite infused bodies can parse as spells imbuing their users with great power; they inlay them into their bodies, into their skins, connected to their cores by copper conduit and gold tracers; they dress themselves in tattoos to advertise their prowess; they battle for relics in arenas, fight for them in the open world wherever they are found. The King Dragon of the Void watches the rock turn and wonders: when will this hunger finally make the rock stop spinning? WELCOME TO FANXING CITY … Twenty-five years ago, Fanxing City and the surrounding lands were commanded by the mad King Zao Beiguan. For many years, the King hoarded wealth, artifacts, food; he demanded tribute from a people already taxed to the edges of their existence and expected they be happy with their circumstances. Noncompliance was often punished harshly, bodies displayed proudly on Fanxing’s streets as a warning, from the city gates to the Zao palace’s golden doors. The youths of several prominent clans came together to overthrow the tyrant and made names for themselves as legendary heroes across the land: Tian, Ren, Feng, Gui, Ma, and Zhenxi. Even wanderers from the Luanshi sect descended from Yunji mountain to aid the rebellion. When the dust settled after three years, Tian Yunyong ascended the throne of Fanxing and swore to honour his slain father’s memory, and has maintained Fanxing’s peace with generosity and mercy where fear and cruelty once reigned.
