"happy birthday dear anna! happy birthday to you!" orion shrieks at exactly 12 am over video chat, sporting a paper hat with the words "happy 21st annalise" written in sharpie.

i giggle as his roommate, seth, throws a pillow at his head. "shut the fuck up man." he groans. "i need my beauty sleep."

orion turns around and throws the pillow back at him. "well my girlfriend comes first. is that okay with you princess?" he grins childishly as he turns back to the camera. "happy birthday my love."

i swoon, nearly falling out of my seat. "thank you i-"

i'm cut off by seth's loud groan in the background. he rolls of the bed, crawling towards the laptop. "annalise why are you dating this imbecile?" he asks, standing up and crouching so his face is in the screen. "you know, i'm a much better candidate. see, he doesn't even care about my beauty sleep! when you guys get married, do you think he's going to care about yours? he'll probably be blasting justin bieber at 1 am and-" but he doesn't get to finish his thought because orion shoves him back to his bed.

"shut up seth." i hear orion hiss, before turning back to me and smiling sheepishly.

"what did he mean, married..." i ask suspiciously.

"n-nothing!" orion stutters quickly, shooting a glare at seth, who simply smirks before putting his eye mask back on and disappearing underneath the covers.

"orion i-"

"i love you." he tells me, putting his hand up to the screen.

i feel my mood dampen. "i love you too...i miss you." i respond, mimicking his actions.

"i'll see you soon baby, i promise."

"i know, now get to sleep before seth chucks your computer out of the window."

he chuckles, shaking his head. "until we meet again?"

"until we meet again."

with that, my screen goes dark.
