the first date
nervous was an understatement. annalise pulled down her skirt further to cover her exposed legs. was the lipstick too much? maybe she should've done something to her hair.
according to "first date tips 101" by beautybloggerforever269, first dates were the first impression, and it was essential to look your best.
but she had known orion for...well, forever. would he really be sniffing her to check that she was wearing perfume?
she shook her head, better be safe than sorry she had thought as she doused herself in the rest of the obnoxiously expensive bottle.
someone knocked on her door. "anna, orion is here," her mother said, her voice raising in excitement. "and boy does he look ravishing! come out!"
she heard someone-who she could only assume was orion-let out something between a squeak and a laugh.
slowly, she opened the door, grinning as she saw orion's mouth drop open in shock. his hair was slightly gelled, sticking up at the ends, and the dress vest he wore fit him like a glove.
"you look-" he started, as he gave her a hug, before launching into a coughing fit. "beauti-" cough. "-ful."
her grin dropped as he bent over, wheezing. "what's wrong?" she asked, concern lacing her tone.
"nothing!" he rushed out quickly, covering his nose. "y-you..smell really nice!"
"can you tell?" she asked anxiously, feeling the embarrassment creeping up.
"it's just...i have asthma so i'm a tad bit sensitive to tha-achoo!" he tried to explain before letting out a sneeze, wiping his nose.
her cheeks burned in humiliation. curse you beautybloggerforever269. "i...you...woah you don't look too good."
he backed away from her slowly. "no, no, i'm fine." he scratched at his reddened arms-an angry rash promising to appear in the near future. "it's just asthma, and fragrance sensitivity...c'mon we should go."

"orion dear," anna's mother started. "maybe you guys should reschedule. you look like a tomato, it won't look very nice in the family photo album." she shook her head sadly.
"no!" he squeaked. "seriously, i'm great."
anna felt guilty, he was allergic to her perfume. "hey, maybe we can stay here?" she asked, looking at her mom for approval, who shrugged.
"well...alright." orion responded hesitantly, swiping a tissue from the counter.
"i'll go take a shower..." anna trailed off awkwardly, before rushing down the hall.
she took her sweet time in the shower, scrubbing at her skin until it became raw. when she finally stepped back into the living room, she found orion propping pillows up in a makeshift fort. "ahhh, i love you, i love you, i love you!" he told his fort, clapping in delight.
she giggled quizzically, alerting him of her presence. "oh hey." he grinned sheepishly, as he turned to face her, scratching his neck. "i was just building a fort."
"i can see that." she said, trying hard to suppress her laughter.
"go ahead and laugh at me." he said, pretending to be unamused even though a smile was inching its way onto his face.
"i won't! i'm not judging!" she promised, although the mirth in her eyes told a different story.
"alright..." he trailed off suspiciously eyeing her.
"where'd my mom go?" she asks, making her way to the kitchen and rummaging through their fridge for a date worthy meal.
"went out, she said she was going to bingo night to visit some eye candy, or something." he responded, flipping through their movie selection.
anna smiled knowingly. that eye candy was one of the volunteers at the senior center, where she happened to spend most of her time at, even though she was barely middle aged.

in the end, they ate reheated pizza and watched hairspray twice. "good date?" anna had murmured against orion's chest sleepily.
"good date." he responded, running a hand through her hair that had dried somewhat frizzy.
they fell asleep in each other's embrace, only to be woken up in two hours by the flash of her mother's camera.
